World War I was supposedly the war to end all wars because of the size of it. There were two groups which fought, the Central Powers and Allied Powers. Germany, Bulgaria, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire were a part of the Central Powers. France, Russia, Italy, Russia, Romania, Japan, Great Britain, and the United States were in the Allied Powers. (World War I History, 2009) World War I started in 1914 because of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. (World War I History, 2009) Though it is said that was the reason for the war, two theories describe why the great war broke out. The two theories that best describe why World War I broke out are Marxism and realism. Out of those two, realism best explains why it happened. The reason why it was so large was because treaties played such a vital role on why so many countries were involved. The nations who were not a part of the original problem with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand were fighting because of treaties. The reason for all the treaties are because of the theory of realism. All the countries needed the help, so that they would not get absolutely ran over by the other country in the war. Even though the countries were helping each other in fighting, they were at the same time trying to save themselves from the opposition; they needed help in order to survive. The whole treaty situation began when the Ottoman Empire and Germany agreed
World War I was a tragic episode in European history. As with most wars, there were some causes that led to this event. A few of these causes were militarism, alliances, and imperialism. The first spark of the war was on June 28, 1914 when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated by a Serbian nationalist group called the Black Hand. The Austrian leaders demanded an apology from Serbia, they got upset and Russia said they would help Serbia. With no apology and the threat of Russia, on June 28 Austria-Hungary declared war on them; Russia in return declared war on Austria-Hungary. Germany declared war on Russia, France on both Germany and Austria-Hungary. Finally Britain had joined France and Russia, then all of Europe was at war.
World War I, also known as the first World War, or the Great War, was a global war originating in Europe the began on the 28th of July 1914 and lasted until the 11th of November 1918. World War I was a war that was fought between two sides with a few of the World’s greatest Nations of that time. The two sides were Triple Entente which included Britain, France, and Russia, and the Triple Alliance which was consisted of the countries Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. World War I left a mark on history as we know it, what could have possibly led to that war?, What were the underlying causes of World War I?. The major causes of “The Great War” or WWI consist of four long-term causes and one short-term cause. The common acronym that’s used for the four long-term causes to help students remember the causes of WWI is M.A.I.N; the acronym stands for Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism, and the short-term cause The Assassination of the ArchDuke Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo on the 28th of June 1914. To put all of this in a simpler way the five major causes of WWI was Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, Nationalism, and the assassination of the ArchDuke Franz Ferdinand. Each of topics played a significant role in the reasons why WWI would begin.
World War I was the result of leaders' aggression towards other countries which was supported by the rising nationalism of the European nations. Economic and imperial competition and fear of war prompted military alliances and an arms race, which further escalated the tension contributing to the outbreak of war. One cause of the World War was militarism, which is a policy in which military preparedness is of primary significance to a situation. Another cause of the World War was nationalism. Nationalism is the pride and devotion form one towards his/her country. It played a great part in the causes of World War 1 because citizens wanted to stand up for their country, and fight for them. The third
World War I, a war that started out locally in Europe between Austria-Hungary and Serbia that later ended up including thirty two different nations. This war has been around for almost a century and yet the causes of it are still being debated. There are many different scenarios that have been considered. Some of the key reasons that were believed to have instigated WWI were nationalism, imperialism, militarism, and an arrangement of treaties. Also the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was believed to be one of the immediate causes.
There were many reasons as to why World War I began. According to Document 2 the event that started World War I was the death of the Archduke of Austria-Hungarian, Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Bashia. The other main causes of World War I was militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. Militarism was the policy of aggressive preparedness, european nations began arming to protect their assets. Alliances is when European nations formed alliances to create a balance of power throughout Europe. The Triple Alliance was a secret agreement
World War I took place in Europe in the early 19th century and was fought by Germany, Italy, Russia, France, Great Britain, and Australia-Hungary. These countries reasons for a war were nationalism, alliances, and militarism. Germany, Italy, Russia, France, Great Britain, and Austria-Hungary were all wanting the same thing, but they were too busy competing with each other to see clearly.
In the 1900’s Europe believed that they had the most power over the world hands down. By the end of the four year war in 1918 they were sadly mistaken, losing roughly 10 million soldiers and more than 20 million injured, Europe was rethinking their claims. This war was sparked from the assassination of the Archduke Francis Ferdinand. The war lasted four years long between 1814 and 1918. European countries were in a dilemma they couldn't get out of.
Because the countries are connected, large wars were inevitable. There were two main alliances in Europe, the Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy) and the Triple Entente (Russia, France and Britain) (Modern world history, “The Alliances” 4). In source 4 (Modern world history, “Source 4” 4), the picture shows the military and naval strength of each country that took part in the war at the time. Germany had the largest army while England had the largest navy. Source 4 shows the scale at which the war had taken place; it also shows that the war was quite balanced between the two sides, which could result in a lot of casualties. Source 6 (Modern world history, “Source 6” 5) is a satirical comic that emphasizes on the changing alliances and how all the countries were so well connected through their alliances that if anything happened, all the countries would get caught up in it. Source 9 (Modern world history, “Source 9” 7) is a comic that shows the strength of the alliances and how a massive war is very easily obtainable. To conclude, Alliances were the main reasons behind the Great War because it connected certain countries in a way that involved them in every conflict. All major European countries had to step in to fight a war that started out as a conflict between Austria-Hungary and
World War I occurred between July 1914 and November 11, 1918. By the end of the war, over 17 million people were killed including over 100,000 American troops. The reason why war erupted is actually much more complicated than a simple list of causes. While there was a chain of events that directly led to the fighting, the actual causes are much deeper and part of continued debate and discussion. This list is an overview of the most popular reasons that are cited as the root causes of World War I.
Throughout history there has been competition for resources and domination. This competition has led to conflicts that have caused destruction, social disruptions and death. World War I was no exception to this competition. World War I was known as the war to end all wars and was caused by a combination of factors. Some causes of World War I was nationalism, imperialism, militarism, and the main cause which was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip of Serbia. While the United States attempted to remain neutral and stay out of the war, Germany choose actions that gave the U.S. no choice but to enter and help their Allies defeat the other powers.
World War I is war famous for European nations fighting against themselves. It began to take shape when countries like France and Germany beginning to form their own allies. It all started with the powerful Austria-Hungary wanted to have Serbia as part of their own empire. However a group of Serbian nationalists known as Black Hands dislike the idea. So they wanted to send a message to the Austria-Hungary government by killing Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Gavrilo Princip, member of the Black Hands, shot and killed Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie and thus started World War 1. Austria-Hungary soon moved against Serbia but Serbia counter by moving against Austria-Hungary. Then comes with new superpower in Europe Germany. It got involved by
Before World War 1 began there were many conflicts between many countries, these conflicts are what eventually led to the war. Nationalism lead to World War 1 for reasons people believed they needed to fight for their country, many people who weren’t fighting wanted to support their soldiers, and many soldiers felt as if they couldn’t back out of the war. Militarism was a cause because each country was building up their weapons and ammunition, as well as building up their armies. Finally Kaiser Wilhelm II was a cause because he had a very strong hate towards Britain, he was a very aggressive leader and he wanted Germany to be the number one country. Nationalism, militarism and Kaiser Wilhelm II were the three main causes of World War 1.
World war I began in 1914 due to the outbreak of Franz Ferdinand assassination. But that wasn’t the only reason, there was already tension between some of the countries like France and Germany. Austria-Hungary and the ottoman Empire were struggling to win their independence. Spheres of influence caused tension in China. Austria punished Serbia and presented an ultimatum.
World War I had three main causes. The first cause was nationalism. Nationalism would make countries try to out do one another causing tension. The second cause was imperialism, this was started by countries trying to expand the culture. The final cause the assassination of archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria- Hungary. When Ferdinand died Austria- Hungary started a war against Serbia, which involved many other countries they were in alliance with resulting in World War I. These causes resulted in to million people dying between 1914-1918. Even though they have the same name, World War I and World War II are very different especially in the causes.
World War I was one of the worst wars to ever happen in history. The Great War lasted from 1914 to 1918 with up 37 million casualties. The war was fought between Russia, France, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Great Britain, the U.S. and many others in Europe. The spark that led to the war is said to be the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in late June of 1914. But the assassination is not a direct cause at all. There are some causes that lead to World War I. A couple of the causes that led to one of the greatest wars to occur in history are alliances, imperialism, and nationalism.
