UNIX AND LINUX
Two Powerful Systems That Are Often Misunderstood
Unix and Linux
There have been many-recorded eras throughout man’s history. There was the Ice Age (BURR), the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Industrial Age (revolution) just to name a few. Each of these eras marks pivotal advances in humankind. Here are some examples of our advancements, during the Ice Age, one of nature’s first demonstrations of her power in population control, man presents his first fashion show focusing on the elegant features of Fur clothing and accessories. The Industrial Revolution mans first experience with assembly line manufacturing. It

There are many operating systems in use today, a few examples are Windows 95/98, Windows NT, MS-DOS, UNIX and one you may not have heard of, LINUX. The focuses of this report are the operating systems UNIX and LINUX, two very interesting and powerful systems. The first is often labeled as too confusing and unfriendly, the later is relatively unknown to the novice user, but surprisingly they are very similar in design. A short history of the two operating systems may explain why they are so similar.
UNIX is a creation out of Bell Labs in the 1960’s, in a project headed by Stephen Bourne. The idea was to create an operating system whose kernel (core part) was as tiny as possible. The main driving force, the small UNIX kernel, was that the developers were doing their work on what were considered in that day to be tiny computers. The severe limitation on RAM resulted in a small kernel with all the utilities implemented as separate, stand-alone programs. Each was itself tiny, and designed to accept input from the preceding program as well as provide output to succeeding programs. This process of using output from one program as input into another is referred to as piping and is central to UNIX operating systems today (UNIX & LINUX Answers! Certified Tech Support © 1998).
LINUX is a creation of Linus
There is a time in the development of the modern human where the cultural and societal turning points began to take place in the historical records. The now recognized shift from the late Upper Paleolithic era and Mesolithic era, to what we call the Neolithic era in history has more than just one factor that began to turn the wheels of social evolution. Many factors played into the transition to the next age, and there were many years in between the stages. Although there was not one specific change that caused this era shift, there was certainly a development that began to move the changes along quicker. What is referred to as the agricultural revolution began to take form around 12,000 years ago, and developed slowly over time.
Linux is an open source operating system based on UNIX. There are many types of Linux operating systems available today, but there were several resemblances between different Linux systems. All Linux systems use the Linux kernel. Deepin, Xubuntu, and Kubuntu are three of the many Linux distributions.
In our world today there are so many different types of operating systems as well as features and applications that run on them. There are many similarities as well as differences between Windows 7, Linux and Windows Server 2008. The one enduring similarity is that all three are intended to be utilized as an operating system is meant to.
Linux is the most important free software it has developed into a an operating for business , education , and personal productivity. Linux is so different because of its free implementation of Unix
The first OS we are going to look at is Linux, it can be a hard system to use and understand, if you have not used it before, you must have a good knowledge of computers in order to deal with Linux. Commands have to be typed in on the command line, and most people do not know or understand command line text. Linux does not have a great number of vendor selling their computer or software, so there is not a good support system for it.

Unix is a registered trademark of The Open Group that refers to a family of computer operating systems. Officially licensed Unix operating systems include OS X (Apple), Solaris (Oracle), AIX (IBM), IRIX (SGI), and HP-UX (Hewlett-Packard).
Many thousands of people contributed to the GNU/Linux Operating System using the Internet. This project is unique because such a project, using free software, had never been attempted before.
In the workplace today there are many different options for operating systems be they providers of server related services or end-user desktops there is a different Linux distribution for many different applications. There are also a number of advantages and disadvantages to adding onto or switching network operating systems within a company. In the following pages I
Linux is a trademark owned by Linus Torvalds [1]. It is an operating system which is powerful, free and inexpensive to own based on UNIX [1]. It is a POSIX-compliant with versions available to install in cell phones, supercomputers and most computing systems [1]. Linux is an open source program as its source code is available to the general public for use and the right to modify from its original design without any charges [1]. New code will be added to the next version made available with Linux if it is accepted as a universal improvement [1]. The code will continue to exist and developed by the user even if the company fails [1]. Moreover, updates for Linux are available every six months [1]. Nowadays, Linux is in constant development by
Windows and Linux provide a GUI (Graphical User Interface) and a command line interface. The Windows GUI has changed dramatically from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95, slightly to Windows 2000, big change to Windows XP and is scheduled to change again with the new version of Windows recently named Vista. Themes is a feature in Windows which lets you customize to an extent the look of your GUI. Linux typically provides two GUIs, KDE and Gnome. Of the major distributions, Lindows has made their user interface resemble Windows a lot more than the others. Text mode interface is also known as a command interpreter. Windows users know this as DOS prompt. It is called a shell in Linux. Windows has a single command interpreter but the different types of Windows have different interpreters. Linux, just as all versions of UNIX, supports multiple command interpreters, but Linux usually uses one called BASH (Bourne Again Shell). A few other shells are the C shell, ash shell, and the bourne shell.
What is Operating System Security, Operating system security is the process of ensuring OS integrity, confidentiality and availability also OS security refers to specified steps used to protect the OS from threats, viruses, worms, malware or remote hacker. OS security include all avoiding-control techniques, which safeguard any computer information from being stolen, edited or deleted if OS security is included. OS security allows different applications and programs to perform required tasks and stop unauthorized interference. OS security may be applied in many ways. We 're going to discuss following topics in this article. A brief description about security and what are the types of encryption and what is Authentication, One Time passwords, Program Threats, System Threats and Computer Security Classifications.
In many systems architecture, the kernel is the lowest level of software that interfaces with the hardware in a computer. In UNIX, users typically have no direct access to it. It is responsible for interfacing all applications that run in user mode including the physical hardware and allowing processes to get information from each other.
