The strengths of UW-River Fall’s program offers many advantages such as The National Association of School Psychology (NASP) approval. The campus is a wonderful fit for me due to size and its community based school system. UW-River Falls values diversity, which I found very supportive and comforting. I picked MSUM, because it has the highest ratio of diversity of students in Minnesota’s universities. The integrity of the university to expect students to be open is important to me. I agree that learning is done best when the student is open-minded to new experiences. The faculty and staff of the university seem to be sensitive and responsive to their students since it’s expected of the students.
Inpatient falls after joint replacement surgeries can cause many complications, prolong hospitalizations and increase healthcare costs. These falls can lead to things such as wound infections and sometimes falls can even require a patient to have a revision surgery. This is especially true in postoperative joint replacement surgical patients. While assessing the orthopedic surgical unit where I work, gaps were found in completing fall risk assessments on patients, which is a requirement. Strategies to prevent falls were not always being followed. Things like a postoperative patient that may require two people to help while ambulating at least for the first day or so was not being done. If the requirement for a two person assist is not
Since my visit to UM two years ago, I have imagined being a part of its culture of diversity and its campus full of amazing facilities. Through a college education there, I know I can place my studies in a bigger context that includes multicultural perspectives, global human and environmental needs, the role of technology and creativity, and service to our
When people hear the word “college”, many panic inside at the thought. But, when I hear the word “college” I think about Illinois State University. In early July, I attended an Open House at ISU for my very first official college visit. As I stepped onto campus, I couldn’t but help to feel like it was my future home. Many aspects of the tour made me draw nearer to choosing this college after finishing my High School career. Illinois State University seems to fit my personality very well, has an amazing program for what I want to study, and is an outstanding campus for my academic strengths and weaknesses.
From the time I was in junior high, my grandmother had been telling me about College of the Ozarks and trying to convince me to attend the college. After much consideration, I decided to make College of the Ozarks my top priority when applying to colleges. The atmosphere of the college, the perfect distance from home, and the opportunity to work for my education were all major factors when making this decision. I had attended private Christian schools for most of my life, so the small campus and Christian values of College of the Ozarks appealed to me much more than the chaotic partying ways of a larger university. I knew if I attended College of the Ozarks, many of my classes would be more difficult than at a public university; however, I saw the difficult classes as an opportunity to learn more, which I believed would help me later in life. I also knew the professors at College of the Ozarks would be more caring and more willing to help than those at other colleges.
While searching for colleges, I was looking for what all students ask for, a university with top notch academics and a social life; and I have come to discover that the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point is the embodiment of such an institution. After doing an abundance of research, I am fully confident that your university is the perfect match for me, not just because of the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point’s qualities, but also the fact that I believe that I will flourish as a student and that my characteristics will enhance your school.
But by the end of my two years as a community college student, I had only dipped my toe into the vast pool of academic potential. Not only does the University of Washington offer infinite career and social opportunities, it provides a community of diverse student body and experienced professors all aiming toward the same goal of success. At the University of Washington I can continue my education and work toward a major that utilizes and builds upon my existing
I believe UW-Green Bay is the university for me, and that I am a perfect candidate to help enrich this prestigious university both academically and socially. Many personal traits, experiences, and goals I have directly correlate with UW-Green Bay’s mission statement and goals for their students. Also, located just off the Lake Michigan shoreline, UW-Green bay offers a beautiful campus for its students, which intrigues me as an individual as a place I can see myself living and enjoying as I work toward my undergraduate degree. In addition, UW- Green Bay has all beautiful state-of-the art facilities and learning centers that I visited that I truly can see myself living in, learning in, and creating new friends and memories in. I believe this
he incidence of falls has a large impact in healthcare today, including legal, ethical, economical and safety implications, for patients, healthcare organizations and the community. Adhering to standards of care, and preventing falls assist the nurse, organization and patient in avoiding legal implications from falls. Protecting the patient's’ well-being, providing autonomy, and freedom are ethical obligations the nurse must consider when taking care of patients. Financial implications for falls can be devastating to the patient, as well as the organization and community. The safety of the patient is our number one goal in healthcare, and reducing fall incidence will not only improve patient safety, but it will improve healthcare as a whole.
I am currently employed in the Iowa Falls-Alden School District, which is a rural district in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Iowa Falls is a community of 55,00 people located along the Iowa River. The nickname is the Scenic City. There are many active small town businesses in Iowa Falls located along Main Street. Iowa Falls is currently undergoing a main street renovation and has a growing trail system. The largest employers of Iowa Falls are Hansen Family Hospital, Ellsworth Community College, and Iowa Select.
Employers are continuing to face rising health benefit costs and are constantly looking for alternatives to control these escalating costs. Health benefit premiums continue to increase at a double digit pace for employers and employees (Poor, Ross & Tollen, 2004). This escalation is putting environmental pressures on all impacted stakeholders, including insurance and health care providers. Companies and insurance providers are squeezing this industry to get a handle on cost while still providing an appropriate level of care. This cycle puts the patient front and center as the ultimate stakeholder who incurs changes in health benefits.
I’ve faced many obstacles as I have furthered my education such as choosing whether to drop an honors class and switch to a college prep course instead, or dropping an orchestra class to pick up a second health science course to ensure a chance to get into the CNA class my senior year; but the easiest part of my senior year has been deciding on going Lander University, home of the Bearcat. I had taken a tour of the university once during my eleventh grade year I wasn’t so sure; however when I went back to tour it one last time on September 24th, 2016 it felt different. I had this feeling that this is where I was meant to be. As if I had found a new home for the next four years as I began my next journey of obtaining my BSN in nursing.
The unsafe environment is the significant factors that contributed to unintentional falls-related injuries in the Hilltop community. Also, the photo and evidence have shown that people in the Hilltop community commonly live in unsafe environments, and they are exposed to high risks that increase their likelihood of being injured. Children and older adults are the vulnerable groups as they have less capacity to overcome these risks. After exploring the Hilltop community, the potential causes of unintentional fall-related injury are both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The Intrinsic factors include individual’s vulnerabilities that increase the risk of falls such as chronic functional impairments (visual loss or physical function limitation) and acute illnesses (asthma, myocardial infarction). For the extrinsic or environmental risk factors, which include unsafe walking surfaces, obstacles in a sidewalk, unstable stair, unsecured handrails and poor lighting. As an example from a conversation with a barista at the Starbucks coffee, a young man living in the neighborhood for 7 years, he said “some living places in this community are old and insecure. You know, my friend he had broken arm because he slipped on the
Attending William Paterson University provided me with an insightful perspective on discovering my true values and interests through their various course options. When I first arrived at William Paterson, I felt confused on picking a major. I knew I wanted something health-related, but I found it difficult to figure out where I would fit best since there were so many career paths available. Eventually, I chose public health.
The study talks about the dilemma associated with hospital falls among aged population. Findings from this article shows that some factors make it easy for patients to experience falls. One of the aspects that causes falls could be from the patients’ medical situation. The author noted that the intake of certain drugs like Benzodiazepine and other psychotropic medications predisposes patients to fall. It was further noted from the study that some drugs used to cure patient’s ailments predisposes them to falls as it alters their physiology which affects their mobility. Suggestion from the study calls for the reduction of these medication that causes falls, as it was noted that its reduction leads to a 47% reduction of hospital falls.
I also look for a breadth of program offerings in a potential college. Since I am not completely certain what field I will pursue, I need a college with a wide array of majors, but most of all, I need a college with excellent departments in the areas I am seriously considering majoring in. I am very interested in psychology, and for the next three months, I will be volunteering at the Dylan Child Study Center in Brooklyn, New York. There, I will be able to learn and gain a better understanding of what the job of a child psychologist entails. From this experience, I hope to gauge my interests in psychology. Since I have dreamt of becoming a psychologist since childhood, I am optimistic that I will major in psychology at University. After asking many questions pertaining to the reputation and excellence of the psychology program at a recent University open house, I found that the school has a strong psychology program and would provide me with an excellent background with which to pursue a further degree.
