“Underage drinking laws and other criminal status punish minors who are illegally in possession of alcohol” (Underage Drinking, 2016). Underage drinking can affect thousands of minors each year, but when people start drinking no matter what age they are there are consequences. Underage drinking can lead to all different kinds of things such as illnesses, accidents, and when people drink they are putting their lives and the lives of other people in danger. In most states, the legal drinking age is 21 unless otherwise stated, but just because the drinking age is 21 does not mean all people follow that law. If you are cited for a DUI there can be numerous penalties for doing so, depending on if it is your first offense or second determines what your penalties might be. If you drive under the influence there is a chance you will either get a fine, license suspension or possibly even go to jail. If you receive a DUI and it is only your first one your consequences can be 10 days to one year in jail, a suspended license for six months up to 3 years, and a fine between 500 and 1,000 dollars. If you receive a second citation for driving under the influence the consequences can be much more severe, you could serve up to a year or more in jail, your license could be suspended for up to five years and you could have to pay a 1,500 dollar fine (Ohio Underage, 2016). Again luckily for her, the softball coach was also the golf coach and one day he told her that she should play golf so she did not have to sit out during softball, so she would go to golf practices and she wasn’t that bad for it being her first year. She began to love the sport decided to go out the next year, her junior year she was a varsity player and one of the team’s lowest scorer almost every match she even made it to districts as an individual. By the time her senior year rolled around she realized that was it her goal was to leave a good name for herself in the school and not a bad one, and that is just what she did she tied the record for the lowest score on nine holes, and for the first time in school history the girls golf team went to state. Although they did not do very well there and places 11th they tried their hardest. Now I’m not saying that underage drinking is a good thing at all, but my sister turned one of the lowest points of her life, she didn’t let it get the best of her, she made something of herself and today she is doing what she loves and she is golfing in
