It is important to understand our diversity in America because not everyone here believes or lives with the same standards. What may seem acceptable in one location, may be considered rude or offensive in another. It is also beneficial to be more knowledgeable of other people’s culture and how they interact among each other to create healthy relationships with new people. Learning about another person’s situation can also help you understand them and think less negative about others due to stereotypes. As humans we thrive when we come together, you will find that we have more in common than we do have of
The United States of America is a perfect example of cultural diversity. Starting with the Mayflower landing in Massachusetts Bay in 1620, to the Great Migration from 1915 to 1930, to the continual immigration into our country today this country has seen its culture grow and reshape itself over the years. The culture of the United States is diverse but understanding and appreciating various cultures does not always exist within today’s classroom or in today’s society. Understanding or even defining cultural diversity , identifying the challenges cultural diversity brings, or how to face cultural diversity are all issues educators face in today’s classroom.
Diversity exists all across the United States. It is defined as the state of having people who are different races or who have different cultures in a group or organization, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary. Along with the ever-growing diversity in America, brings along intercultural communication. Intercultural communication can be defined as a situated communication between individuals or groups of different linguistic and cultural origins. Due to the limitless amounts of diversity and intercultural communication across the United States, misunderstandings and clashes between cultures are bound to occur. These clashes have been as extreme to be used to explain violence and crime not only in the United States, but also throughout our entire nation. On the other end, these cultural clashes can be so personal in our everyday lives because of our expectations of a certain behavior coming from our own cultural backgrounds, as many others have very different cultural backgrounds and expectations of us.
Throughout the world social problems such as illiterate, elderly, handicapped, minority groups, and poverty have been the biggest part in our society for many years. Some of our social problems had died off, meanwhile, they’re still many problem that we are still facing as a society. One of the major social problem we face is people being illiterate. Being illiterate is meaning a person can not read nor write, and it can also mean that a person is grammatically incorrect. There is as much as 23% of the adult population that are ignorant to basic skills of the 4th grade level. In the U.S. the ethnic group that is most affected by not being able to read or write is
Diversity is common in America today, many people sharing a unique blend of many different collective cultural views on religion, politics, moral and ethical values. Conversely, an unsurpassed rich mixture of religions, races, and cultures, making it a wide-ranging synthesis that is unique to any other part of the world. Still, among the many religious cultures in America (secular, Christian, and other religions) Christianity still has much ground to cover with non-believers. Inasmuch, many religious cultures do not belief that Jesus is the son of God and humanities Redeemer, such as, the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons believing that Jesus Christ existed, but he is not the Son of God. Similar, the Roman Empire in the third century, “Christianity
To begin my personal informative essay on diversity in the United States, I would like to point out what information has had the most influence on how I better understand and relate to others different from how I did in the past. I do not feel as though this class taught me any more than I already know about other races and ethnicities, in terms of, how their ancestors came to America, or what hardships particular racial or ethnical groups have grown through in the group’s history in the United States. What I do feel like this class has done for me is, put into prospective of how often and frequent prejudice and
The presence of Latinos in the United States challenges the notion of there being only one specific type of American citizen, an English-speaking person who lives only in relation to an "Anglo" heritage. Alongside other minority groups, Latinos tend to believe in the notion that the United States must be made up of one bounded territory, within which people speak a singular language and experience one culture. So, when the Anglo groups are faced with Spanish speaking people who are in touch with their Latino heritage, they feel threatened by the people who can speak both Spanish and English. The response to this sense of threat involves marginalization and the obvious exclusion of Latino groups in the United States. At the
United States is the most diverse country I know and the future looks like diversity is
The first colonists that founded our country were dominated by white folks. In today’s America , there are too many cultures to name. Diversity is essential to our nation’s society. Diversity is essential for our country being what it is known for today. While some people believe that uniformity and conformity are encouraged more, it can be argued that diversity and individuality are encouraged because people resist assimilation and people are encouraged for their differences.

The United States for years has been a country full of opportunities. As of the freedoms, the United States is a country full of many different types of people with their own cultures and different views of life. A reason for this is that, the United States is promoted as an interwoven country. The United States is the land of opportunities, but it can also be abundant in diversity and exclude others because of their culture or just the fact that people are not the same skin color. The color of one’s skin can also predict what opportunities people have in life. The United States may have a pluralistic society, but it can also be the greatest diverse country. Everyone in the United States no matter which race wants to achieve the American Dream
In the USA one of the most diverse place on earth, one would think that cultural diversity would not be an issue that needed to be addressed or be an issue at all. Right? I mean this country is probably the only place on earth where you can find nearly any nationality, ethnicity and type of people living among each other. You have Blacks, Chinese, gays, lesbians, transgender people, whites, Europeans, Africans, Middle Eastern people, Asians, and Hispanics, all on one piece of land. How can cultural diversity be a problem when the land is made up of so many different types of people? Shouldn't cultural diversity be striving in America? Unfortunately, in many parts of the USA, cultural diversity is lacking. Some of the many places that cultural diversity is lacking in the US is television, movies, the workplace, and schools. If you ever watched a movie or a TV show you mostly see one type of group being represented. For example, let's look some TV shows that take place in NYC. Let's look at friends, Seinfeld, Will and Grace, Sex and The City and How I Meet Your Mother, these shows
Television still doesn’t completely represent the diversity in America. Roughly three-quarters of film actors were white in 2014. There was only 12.5% African American, 5.3% Asian, and 4.9% Hispanic actors while there was 73.1% white actors. Studies also show the majority of actors are male. According to the annual 100 top grossing films 2007-2014 only 30.2% of speaking or named characters were women, while 73.1% were male whites.
In the United States, we are going through a tough transition period. We are moving on from old energy to new energy and from conservative traditions to new ones. It is good to know that many in the country acknowledge the times with a belief of an inclusive America. In the same fashion, some celebrities speak out about racial issues that continue to divide out country as they fight for equality for all races. Our country is there yet, but individuals with huge platforms who use it to speak in favor of diversity, it can help our country get to that point. An influential figure can convince countless people to become more accepting of the changing country that becomes better for all Americans.
I think it's important to understand the diverse in America. I think it's important because we have to understand what all these other people go through. We have to understand their different culture. We can't just discriminate them just because they don't look like you or like thing like you everyone is equal. Yes we might be different color but we are still humans which makes us the same. We might all dress differently or belief in different religion but i think we are all the same and we have to understand each other. There will be people discriminating you but that's how life is
It is important to understand our diverse America because we need to understand different types of cultures that were not use to. For example Marq the person I read about he wasn’t really into knowing his culture, I wonder why. Understanding the diverse of a American means a lot in different ways. For me the word American means many people coming from around the world and meeting each other. Being different from others is not really weird because you get to show other people your life and learn from them too. In Marq life he would show a little of himself by going to korean restaurant for his birthday and show to his friends what food is actually good. Being one of kind doesn’t really matter in America.
