On December 19, 1777, George Washington and his troops, a.k.a the Colonists, arrived at Valley Forge. Not knowing in the later future or when the Winter came, all disaster broke loose. Everyone started to die from the harsh weather and the disease that was spreading across the camp, but they still kept their head up and had a lot of optimism during the bad times that they were going through. For example, in The American Crisis by Thomas Paine (Doc D), he says, ”These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, will shrink from their service of their country; but he that stands now, deserves love and thanks from man and woman.” This could mean that the soldiers that are the ¨sunshine …show more content…
Another example is in the Diary of Dr. Waldo, (Doc C) and in his diary he says,¨Yet they still show as spirit of Alacrity (cheerful willingness) and the Contentment not to be expected from so young Troops.” In this sentence of the diary of Dr. Waldo, it means that even when the colonists, living at Valley Forge, having to deal with the harsh conditions, plus the low supply of food, they still were optimistic of their living state. They still held through the many deaths that were happening at Valley Forge. The last passage that should make people stay, or making me stay, is the Engraving of a painting by William Henry Powell (Doc B). Although it is only a painting, or an engraving, it shows that the Patriots, or in this case, the Colonists are ready for battle and they don't want to stay at Valley Forge, making them want to fight the British. It had showed George Washington ready for battle too, but it is just a painting, no one knows what they are saying or what they are describing with their body language. All together, I would have stayed at Valley Forge because I would have stayed optimistic, and I would be keeping my head up, even in harsh
Valley Forge is where George Washington and his troops sent camp for the winter. During camp the colonists trained hard and gained the confidence they needed to win the war. Unfortunately the lack of food and spread of disease caused many deaths during this harsh winter. If I had the choice to leave or stay at Valley Forge I would leave. I would not want to risk my life or have to suffer through the cold and sickness. According to Estimates of Illness and Deaths at Valley Forge (Doc A), during the encampment about 2,500 soldiers died. That is about ⅓ of the colonists fighting in the war. About 49% of the soldiers get sick. “I am sick-discontented-and out of humour. Poor food - hard lodging - Cold Weather - fatigue - Nasty Clothes - nasty
During the 1960s, a number of movements of oppressed or underrepresented groups in American society emerged protesting the discrimination they experienced. The democratic ideals they advocated for were not limited to more voting rights as underrepresented minorities, but also included social and economic justice so they could serve as fully functional members of society. In doing so, the leaders of each movement tackled the advocation of their rights in varying manners, based largely on their beliefs and the objectives of the movement they were involved with. Some people believe each all protest movements of the 1960s sought to redefine American democracy to similar or identical levels. However, both ethnic minority groups and women sought
Great Depression. The deepest longest-lasting economic downturn of the history of the western industrialized world. Began soon after the stock market crash of October 1929 (Black Tuesday) which sent wall street into a panic and wiped out millions of investors. Roosevelt was sent in to office replacing Herbert Hoover, a possible cause of the Great Depression, for twelve years or three terms.Though the time was devastating the positive outcomes like the automobile improvement and other improvements still last to this day. Although discrimination was a problem employment was increased so the New Deal was helpful for the problems of the great depression.
Overcrowded, smoggy, dirty. These word would describe what the gilded age and progressive era looked like. With multiple families living in a small space and people working for less than living wage in dirty cramped factories. Food was made in unsanitary places with rats crawling over it. There were millions of child labour. Some people would say that the inventions society got were great but it was at the cost of people's lives. Economic growth was bad for society because factories had harsh condition.
A major effect of the global flow of silver is the economic dependency required. In Document 5, Xu Dunqui Ming purposefully explains the growing of heavy silver use in his city’s economics in 1610, leading to silver becoming the required and standard payment for cloth dying and other services, along with silver now a necesity in their lives.Wth this new standard payment of silver in China, where it is unaccessible in their own environment, they depend on Europe and Spain to in exhange for China’s goods pay in silver to make it readily available for China’s inhabitants. In Document C it showed one of the doctors journals during there time at Valley Forge, the doctor said "yet they still show signs of Alacrity (cheerful willingness) and contentment," meaning they still had hope. In every battle no one gave up, they
Over the past several decades, there have been great tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union which continue into what is known today as Russia. Suspicions and tensions between these two countries increased greatly during and directly after World War II, particularly between 1941 and 1949.
During the 1790 the country was split up over the rise of political parties. There were the federalists led by alexander hamilton and the democratic-republicans led by Alexander Hamilton and the democratic republicans led by tomas jefferson. The federalists and democratic-republicans have different views on many things, including the interpretation of the constitution, strong parts of the nation's economy and if the alien and sedition acts were important to have in our country.
Valley Forge, which was a difficult place to live, is where Washington and his Continental Army lived. During the harsh Revolutionary of December 1777-June 1778, many soldiers left, and many stayed loyal. If I had been a soldier in Washington’s army, would I have quit? No I wouldn’t have quit because only 15% of people died, there are people who show willingness, and because of the inspirational words of Thomas Paine.
Have you ever wondered how a Signature could change a country entirely? LBJ did just that. LBJ was born in the Hill Country of central Texas, He lived in Texas his whole life. He taught Middle School at age 20, But then after earning his teaching degree he went to go teach at Houston High School, In you guessed it, Houston. LBJ signed the Civil Rights act of 1964, Because of Principle beliefs. He strongly believed in not having segregation. Have you ever heard of Valley Forge? Well , through the horrific events of Valley Forge , would you rather quit or stay? The Continental Army, has had several successes such as, Trenton and Princeton. They have gone through struggles depending on the length of their enlistment. Most were enlisted for 9 months. If I was a soldier I would have quit because I would not want to die from a illness, have poor food, lodging , and weather, and I would not want to suffer from the smoke in my hut.
The Aztecs have two remarkable qualities about their culture; human sacrifice and agriculture. While both of these qualities holds an importance in their history, historians should emphasize human sacrifice more. The Aztecs human sacrifice is more notable than the Aztecs agricultural ability, because they left land unoccupied for later sacrifices, it resulted in many’s death, and even the finest were sacrificed.
The sky was bleak and the earth was frozen and bare. The only nearby remnant of life was situated in the winter camp at Valley Forge. Lifeless men dragged their feet lethargically on the deep snow while their tattered clothing blow in the howling wind. “A general cry [through] the Camp…. Among the Soldiers, ‘No Meat!
“Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have war then let it begin here.” - John Parker. In winter 1777, George Washington and his troops went to Valley Forge about 18 miles from Philadelphia, where the British were staying. Valley Forge: would you leave? I will re-enlist despite the three reasons for quitting.
In the late 1800’s farmers in the West faced many difficulties. Some of those difficulties included the monetary policy, overproduction, and differential freight rates. These challenges led farmers to debt, and being unable to make a decent living. Quickly, farmers became very unhappy with their situation and saw it as the government’s fault. So that opens up the question of “were their complaints valid?”
