In 1776, the American people declared themselves an independent nation. The American people were traumatized by the Revolution and feared a strong central government. This led to their first attempt at a government, the Articles of Confederation, which ultimately failed. After this let down of a government, the founding fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence, which would become the law of the American land. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were two influential individuals, who were originally involved in the writing of the Declaration of Independence. Both were involved in the political side of the Revolutionary war, but when speaking of it, told alternate versions of the war. As they approached the end of their lives, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams dedicated themselves to telling extremely differentiating versions of the Revolutionary War; Jefferson focusing on the glory and Adams focusing on the hardships, while Jefferson’s version is the only one recorded in the textbooks students use today.
Between 1770 and 1776, resistance to imperial change turned into a full-on revolution. The American Revolution, also known as the Revolutionary War, was a time of revolting and political uprising, in which the 13 colonies separated from the British Empire, forming the independent nation known as the United States of America. Though the American Revolution began because the colonies wanted independence from Britain, many important historical events and revolts also lead to the tensions and resistance to what resulted in freedom and independence for the colonies from British rule. Events such as the Stamp and Sugar Acts, the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, Intolerable Acts, and the Continental Congress led to expanding tensions and soon to the outbreak of the American Revolution.
In regards to the American Revolution, the point that armed rebellion became inevitable arrived when after nearly five constant years of American colonist protesting. American 's had enough and needed to take a stand for the numerous inequalities they were forced to deal with. It was foreseeable that the American Revolution took place due to the unfair taxes that the British were giving Americans. Also, England was not allowing Americans their freedom, along with violence and the political dominance by the Parliament over the colonies by announcing the Stamp Act in 1765, which happened to nearly affect all Americans tremendously.
It was the first revolution to majorly succeed and change how people saw their countries, it was the American Revolution. The American Revolution was the first successful revolution against a European empire that provided a model for many other colonial peoples who realized that they too could break away and become self-governing nations (New world Encyclopedia, 1).The American Revolution was vital to history because ideas seen by other countries started a chain reaction. Many ideas were taken into account when the Americans revolted against Europe and all of these played important factors throughout history. Ideas about liberty, equality, representation, and natural rights were first seen as properly put into action to change old systems in the American Revolution. As the American Revolution was the first to succeed and earn freedom, it greatly affected countries all around the world on how they made freedom and equality a part of their government
By spring 2,000 soldiers had died n battles. Later n in that spring something good happened in Valley Forge. A German officer by the name of Baron Van Steuben trained and drilled the army of George Washington. They had become a much more disciplined and committed army stronger than before.
“The revolution was effected before the war commenced. The revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people.” - John Adams, 1818
British are taking over, men are falling at gun shot, chaos consumes us all. There are countless deaths among us, the men fall from sickness and murder. With every fallen soldier there is another family without a son, father, or husband. This war needs to end, soon. I have decided to re-enlist for three reasons which are to fill in for others that left or died, the Congressmen are here to support us, finally if we do not win this war we are nothing but slaves to the British.
The Winter at Valley Forge- George Washington thought he was doing the right thing when he picked a spot that could effectively be defended in the event of a british attack but in reality he picked a spot that his entire army was attacked… by the weather. The brutal winter at Valley Forge is a famous one because it tested the Continental Army so much. Many people died to disease. The remaining troop who weren’t dying were put into even more training by Baron von Steuben to keep them busy. At the end of the winter, the army left Valley Forge an even more experienced and strong
Valley Forge is the patriot encampment during the revolutionary war, the patriots used this camp as it was only 18 miles Philadelphia which was a British controlled town. Valley Forge played a huge role in America’s birth times were hard, cold winds, lack of food, people started to leave in fear of becoming sick and dying, but the ones who stayed were the true Patriots, the fathers of America! Soldiers would stay because they believed in the American dream and becoming independent. (Doc A) At Valley Forge around 50% of all soldiers were ill, about 25% of those who became ill ended up dying.(Doc A) Valley Forge was the true test of soldier loyalty, at the time of Valley Forge’s foundation, it was the end of most periods of service for most soldiers, 9-12 months, many began to return home.
Yet in early spring at Valley Forge General Nathanel Greene was appointed quartermaster. Conditions for the members of the continental army greatly improved. Food was in abundance as well as clothing and soldiers took full advantage of it. While the American soldiers were very valiant, they lacked the discipline and skills of a true army. This soon changed will the arrival of Baron Von Stueben. Von Stueben quickly turned the continental army into a true “army.” Leaving Valley Forge Washington and his men had a renewed sense of patriotism. They were now a united army with the skills to defeat the British although they had suffered great losses they had made great achievements and were now truly an army. The winter of Valley Forge exemplified the true will of General George Washington and his troops. They were united and they were ready to fight for one cause life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Valley Forge was a battle between the British and the Americans. Simultaneously as how George Washington trained his troops to have the Brits surrender. They had to survive the winter of 1777-1778. As well as to build a camp, protect it, and train there as well.
During the American Revolution many people were left in uncircumstantial situations. When you are at your lowest peak, you tend to do things you may regret. Imagine if every man was in a similar situation such as James Yates in “An Account of a Murder Committed by Mr. J--- Y---, Upon His Family, in December, A.D. 1781” and William Beadle in “A crime more atrocious and horrible than any other”. They had a choice and knew clearly what the punishment was for their crimes. Why did they do the things they did? Individuals do things they may not want to because another force is making them, it is their proclaimed duty, or their pride is interfering in their judgement.
