I am in Scholastic Scrimmage, which has been one of the most rewarding clubs I have been a part of and I have been captain of Varsity Scholastic Scrimmage during 11th and 12th grades. This year (12th grade) is the first year the team is going to EPC playoffs in over four years. I have done Mixed Martial Arts at Leading Edge Martial Arts for the past eight years and I have been a first degree black belt for two years. My black belt is a major accomplishment because less than one percent of all students make it as far as the black belt test and it represents years of committed dedication and hard work. I have played piano for the past ten years and have gotten the top award at many piano competitions including Superior Plus (highest ranking) at the National Piano Playing Auditions Guild, Superior Plus (highest ranking) in the Achievement Awards Adjudication competition (AAA), and Superior (highest ranking) at the Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival. I am currently working toward my International Diploma in the Piano Playing Auditions Guild in May 2017. I was webmaster for the Parkland Mathematics League in 11th grade and I am Co-vice president in 12th grade. As webmaster, I organized the wikispace and ensured that the wikispace was always updated with our scores from the various competitions. As co-vice president, I communicate with …show more content…
This was very rewarding as it was very hard work during these hot and humid summer months, but I could see how my work there enhanced the beauty of my community as well as seeing many people stopping to walk among and admire the flowers and comment on our work. This was also a good experience because I have had a vegetable garden since the summer before 6th grade and at the community garden, I was able to use my acquired skills for the enjoyment of the
Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in various clubs and organizations to help me become a leader in my community. At Auburn High School I took on the role of being a Publicist officer for National Technical Honors Society the first two consecutive years that it became a part of our school. I gained a lot of leadership experience through this club. Implementing a new organization is never easy and takes a lot of hard work and dedication from the leaders of the club. By being a part of a very helpful, dedicated and motivated team, we helped affiliate all the eligible members into the club and in turn helped introduce this new club to the school. As publicist my role in helping the club grow was crucial; I helped in publicizing the clubs various projects and involvement.
I have always played sports. Softball, soccer, and swimming before I started kindergarten, later, basketball and volleyball. My passion is and always has been softball. I love competing and being able to make friendships and memories with my teammates that will last a lifetime.
Becoming a third-degree black belt was always my wish. I may have not put all of my effort into it, but I started trying my best realizing that I should be a role model for others around me.
In Scholastic Scrimmage, I found a community of people who were as curious to learn new things as I was and as competitive (in a good way) as I was, and still am. I became captain of the Varsity Scholastic Scrimmage team in my junior year because of my dedication to the club. As captain, I established a plan in which players would be on the same teams in practices and competitions to grow as teams rather than free radicals with no direction or commitment, which was one of the major problems of the club in the past. The impact was immediate and it established chemistry between players and their teams. Many of my friends have expressed new dedication to their teams and Scholastic Scrimmage and I attribute this change to the team's first EPC
Currently, I ‘m attending Arizona State University, majoring in Organizational Leadership. I will be graduating in May of 2017. During my attendance at ASU, I was able to reach a couple of goals that I have set for myself. Which are: receiving the Chief Manuelito Scholarship, the Dean’s List, and inducted in an Honor society, although, I was inducted into two – Golden Key International
From freshman to senior year, I spend thousands of hours perfecting my craft and in return made longtime friends. As captain of the color guard my junior and senior year, I was able to guide others, give them confidence, and teach them a new skill set. As captain, I enjoyed helping those less experienced than I and ensured they had a positive environment. Additionally, my marching band and I faithfully attended nearby parades to liven spirits and to represent our area. The biggest events were football games, where the marching band and I entertained the crowd during halftime, promoting our high school and helping others enjoy the
I have been the sophomore representative for FBLA this year and I also held two leadership position in Speech and Debate. I am the Lincoln- Douglas debate mentor and I’m also the Historian. Right now I’m also trying out a leadership position in Band.
A few years ago I was training to be professional tennis player at one of India’s top tennis academies. I had been playing tennis only for ten months when my tennis coach suggested I participate in the upcoming national level fastest serve tennis tournament. There was a fear in me, a fear of facing the more skilled, experienced, and accomplished competition, yet my mind wanted to overcome that fear and trust my coach and ten months of training. My coach had immense faith in my abilities to perform well, but being the underdog, I lacked the confidence to compete alongside top ranked players. As the tournament date grew closer, I found myself battling between two paths - give in to my fear and surrender any chance of winning, or escape my comfort
Academics have been my primary strength throughout my high school career. Since Grade 9, I have maintained an average over 95%, thus receiving Silver Medal every year; my final graduating average will most likely be 96.2%. My scholarly success is illustrated in the high number of subject awards I have received - ten awards in three years. In addition, I have competed in various math and computing contests, such as the Galois, for which I placed first in the school, and the AMC 12B, as well as the University of Toronto Biology Competition.
With a score of 44 to 37, the Varsity Football Team won against the Midway Panthers last Friday night at Waco.
As my Varsity baseball team suits up for practice we whip out our “Easton Mako Bats” and our “Evo-Shield arm sleeves.” Everyone prepares for the season as we break in our new 200-dollar gloves. As I Un-zip my “Demarani Bat Bag” I search for the stick of eye black that seems to add spice to my game as I smother it under my eye, to “reflect the sun” of course. Our accessories become a part of our game, and we begin to value them more than the game itself.
They key year of my journey from white belt to second-degree black belt were arduous! It took a lot of discipline to stand and sit still, and physically give it my all to do it right. After all if Ralph Macchio could do it for a mere movie, I should be able to martial arts for my own sake; this is my life after
While many of my extracurricular activities have been fulfilling, taekwondo has been the most important to me. I started taekwondo when I was five because my mom felt that I needed to learn self-defense against bullying. Eventually, taekwondo became my favorite activity. I went to my first regional tournament in 2008, won the tournament, and thus started training even harder. Over the next four years, I competed at the annual national tournament, winning my first in 2009, and subsequent championships in 2010 and 2012. Through this period, I also got my first degree black belt in 2009 and my second degree black belt in 2012.
I first started playing volleyball at a very young age. I was in the seventh grade when my volleyball career started. My sister started playing in the seventh grade and I just wanted to follow her footsteps. My seventh grade year was ok because I had just started out and really didn’t know the game. There was A team and a B team, where A team was better than the B team. I tried my best to be on the A-team, but guess where I ended up, on the B team.
To begin with, I finally made it! I am now sitting in my seat in the Ted Constant Center and I am about to walk across the stage. It feels like it took forever for this moment to come but I am here and I feel like I am on top of the world. I can see my mother sitting in her seat with tears pouring out of eyes because she knows that that I am about to walk across the stage and start the next stage of my life. It was a long and hard journey but my goals I had set for myself were a constant push that I could do it. As a matter of fact, one goal I met was to get into one of the three colleges I applied to and I did. I am ecstatic to say that I am going to be a freshman at George Mason University this following school year. Not to mention that I also received a numerous amount of scholarships and grants. On top of that, this school year the color guard got Grand Champions at a completion we participated in in North Carolina. I was super excited when they announced us as Grand Champions because we had a lot of setbacks during the season. Such as, not having an instructor to teach us the work and having to learn the work from YouTube to having to stay late after the other kids left so we could learn our week for our show to practicing in the rain. We worked really hard this season and for us to be announced as Grand Champions shows that our hard work payed off. The goals I set for myself were met and I couldn’t be any happier.
