A British actress named Hannah Murray once said, “I really loved animals when I was little - my friend and I had an imaginary vet 's office; we would mime doing surgery on animals. We treated more injuries than illnesses - fixing with a baby bear with a broken leg, removing a tumor. Of course, our surgeries would take about five seconds; that 's how good we were.” As far back as one girl can remember, she always had a pet of some kind. She currently has a pet dog, and she became sick, and would have seizures. When her mom and took her to the Vet’s office, she remembers how the doctor saved her dog’s life and how grateful she and her mother were to not lose a member of our family. The career of a veterinarian is a rewarding career, because one has the opportunity to care for beings who can’t for themselves. The research will describe the career of a veterinarian, what is required to become successful, and the impact this career has on society.

One major part of all peoples’ lives is health care, without it society would have no way of staying healthy and happy, and people would also have no way of treatment in case of an emergency. This also applies to all the pets’ lives are shared with. A certain profession is also needed to provide this care service for all of the animals. The people responsible for this service are Veterinarians. There is a lot to learn about the career of a veterinarian, including all of the schooling required, what a vet does, all of the advantages as well as the disadvantages, and the future outlook for this career.

As a member of the Countryside Mobile Vet team as a Veterinarian Assistant one has the reward in helping domestic animals.

The work environment in Vet Tech is stressful. In a Vet clinic, illnesses and injuries are more common in Vet Tech. One has to be able to handle being kicked, bitten, scratched, etc when holding, cleaning, or restraining an animal. Try to avoid getting injuries while working in a Vet. Watch for body language in an animal and have proper restraint techniques. To avoid illnesses, the Vet Tech should follow safety procedures. Illnesses can be caused by these things since they would be around them most of the time; Needles, bodily fluids, radiation and other potentially hazardous substances. (“How to Become a Vet Tech”).

I chose the career of a Vet Technician. This job is often confused with the veterinarian or veterinary technologist. These two fields are totally different than a vet technician. Veterinarian required eight years of schooling, where the Veterinary technologist requires a bachelor degree in applied science. The job of an veterinary technician is to provide nursing care and assist surgeries for animals. Think of it as a human nurse, and a doctor, the vet tech assist the veterinarian in diagnosing illness and injuries. Some other jobs a veterinary technician might have would be preparing an animal for a surgery like a scrub with germicidal soap, sterilizing the surgical utensils, setting up a room

Ever since I was little I was told that I was going to be a veterinarian. Well not quite I think vet tech is more of my area. I love animals they amaze me, and I love dogs the most.

The interviewee, Prima Balford an avid Pit Bull owner, disclosed that she has owned Pit Bulls all of her life. When asked her why she decided to adopt a Pit Bull, she disclosed that it just kind of happened; her parent’s friends had them and she ended up getting one for free when she was just a child. She said after owning Pit Bulls, she could never imagine having another breed of dog. When asked about her overall experience with Pit Bulls she began talking about her dog Moe. According to her, “Moe thinks he is a giant lap dog and is actually afraid of my cat”. The interviewee also disclosed that she has a young daughter and Moe sleeps outside her door every night. Many of the respondents in the survey also disclosed that their dog is great with their young child. The interviewee said she can understand why Pit Bulls are referred to as the Nanny dog after having her daughter. Balford was also asked about any negative experiences she had as a Pit Bull owner. She said she’s never had any problems with her dogs. Her dog Moe barks when someone comes to the door, but quickly backs off once he sees the person is welcome in the home. While the interviewee said she never planned on having a Pit Bull, she is very glad it ended up happening that way.

The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, American College of Poultry Veterinarians, the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, and the American College of Zoological Medicine are all able to certify veterinarians. However, certification is not required, unlike licensing. Licensing, including the D.V.M., can be obtained from the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE), which is organized by the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Every state varies in their ruling towards a person applying to take the NAVLE. To ensure that our project would be very successful as a group we discussed how could we make a big impact. Animal neglect is a common type of animal abuse in which an animal does not receive the proper care it needs to survive and thrive. A neglected animal does not receive the basic sources to keep it alive like, proper medical care, proper water, proper food, shelter, and the proper amount of socialization per the ASPCA. Animal neglect is horrible because people leave an animal that doesn’t have the proper things to survive. Sometimes, people are neglectful by either forgetting to feed their animal, or withholding food altogether. When people refuse to feed their animal, the animal starves and becomes malnourished. As reported by the ASPCA, “250,000 animals fall victim to animal hoarding annually which can lead to the animal not being fed properly.” Animals can die without proper nutrition.

You touched on many of the dilemmas that we faces with antibiotic over-use, but not doing anything is not an option, although we may feel it is, since the over-use of antibiotic has been an ongoing battle.
