Treatment Treatment of GI Stasis is not something that can be done without a Veterinarian’s help or at home. In order to get proper care for a rabbit with this particular disease, he/she has to be taken to the Vet in order to get the proper care and chance for survival. Luckily for owners of a rabbit who has this disease, there are several different kinds of options to help a rabbit with this disease. One of those options is an IV. This IV is something that is prescribed by a doctor that is used to rehydrate a rabbit CITATION Cat14 \l 1033 (Logsdon, 2014). When a rabbit is not drinking or eating anything, the body can become very weak and dehydrated. The first thing that will help the rabbit get better is to provide liquids so that the rabbit’s …show more content…
There is a huge range starting with very little exercise going all the way to outgrown teeth CITATION Abi141 \l 1033 (Cushman, 2014). There are causes that can sometimes be prevented and sometimes not. Preventing the disease can be easily done by doing things such as letting the rabbit out once a day, feeding it enough roughage, and keeping the rabbit healthy by regular checkups with the local Veterinarian. GI Stasis is the kind of disease that should be 100% prevented as it can eventually take the life of the rabbit. There is a lot that can show itself through this disease just in case the disease was not completely prevented. Once the rabbit has the disease, the signs to look out for would be stomach bloat, stomach noises, avoidance of food, a caved-in stomach, little to no fecal matter, and complete lethargy. It is recommended by any Veterinarian and any reports on the disease that any if any of these signs start to show themselves, then immediate action should be taken. Assuming that the symptoms will just go away or cure themselves is exactly what leads to the disease taking a drastic negative turn. Taking in the rabbit to get immediate treatment is exactly what can save a rabbits life. The treatment that Veterinarians can provide is what could save the rabbit’s health rather than avoiding any of the symptoms. IV’s, antibiotics, pain killers, motility drugs, and Critical Care are what could really save a rabbits life CITATION Cat14 \l 1033 (Logsdon, 2014). Most of the treatments are something only a Veterinarian can administer. All in all, GI Stasis is something that can be extremely dangerous for a rabbit. Once the digestive system has shut down, there is very little hope for the animal. This disease cannot only be fatal for the animal, but also create a very painful death for him/her. Watching out for the signs and doing everything to promote a healthy lifestyle for the rabbit are the best ways
During my second full week with Dr. Carpenter, I experienced many different situations. Examples from this past week are pregnancy checks, PC dart, embryo implantation, blood transfusion, and upon many others. All of these situations showed me that there depending upon the stage the animal is at in its life depends upon what is the most likely scenario a veterinarian will have to perform or examine on the animal. Everything a veterinarian does has such critical importance due to most human beings being depended upon animals and the byproducts they make after death or during their lives. That is the reason veterinarians have such strict regulations and can only use certain medications due to possible affects on humans such as cancer or disease.
Eight years is a long time to go to school to be an equine veterinarian, but it offers a lifetime of saving horses. True one has to go to a college or university for eight plus years to become an equine veterinarian, but it all pays off in the end. It does not pay in money, but knowing that one saves a horses life, or can make their life better. This is what Charlie Scoggin was trying to say when he said “In my opinion, a salary should not be the sole means for deciding upon a job. You have to look at the big picture.” (Charlie Scoggin Resident veterinarian Rood and Riddle equine hospital). Equine veterinary medicine is not just about making money, but helping horses heal, recover, and live a better

I chose the career of a Vet Technician. This job is often confused with the veterinarian or veterinary technologist. These two fields are totally different than a vet technician. Veterinarian required eight years of schooling, where the Veterinary technologist requires a bachelor degree in applied science. The job of an veterinary technician is to provide nursing care and assist surgeries for animals. Think of it as a human nurse, and a doctor, the vet tech assist the veterinarian in diagnosing illness and injuries. Some other jobs a veterinary technician might have would be preparing an animal for a surgery like a scrub with germicidal soap, sterilizing the surgical utensils, setting up a room

When structuring this script, my goal was to showcase my thought process when I reflect on my dog, Pierre’s, life. I aimed to structure the script like a letter through the inclusion of voice-overs to capture my inner thoughts and the words that I wish I could say to him. However, during the workshop, I received feedback from my peers to limit the voice-overs and include dialogue of what I said to my dog as he passed away and some interaction between the veterinarian and I.

The goal of drug therapy in veterinary patients is to produce a specific pharmacological response while minimizing adverse effects. A patient’s response to any given therapy is controlled by variety of factors including disease, age, gender, body weight, and other environmental factors. In every population of animals or humans, there is a large amount of variability in the way individuals respond to drug therapy. From a clinical standpoint, this is an important issue that can lead to therapeutic failures or adverse drug reactions (ADRs). By understanding the genetic heritability of traits that influence drug metabolism, clinicians can use this knowledge to individualize treatment protocols and tailor drug and dose selection to individual needs.
The genus Babesia is composed of tick-borne intraerythrocytic apicomplexan protozoans that cause babesiosis in mammals, including humans (Schnittger et al., 2012). The infection of cattle with Babesia bovis causes massive economic losses in the livestock industry worldwide (Bock et al., 2004; Malak et al., 2012). Similarly, Babesia gibsoni infects dogs worldwide, causing serious concern among pet owners with regard to animal health and welfare (Trotta et al., 2009; Yeagley et al., 2009). Cattle and dogs clinically infected with B. bovis and B. gibsoni manifest fever, anemia jaundice, hemoglobinuria, hypertensive shock, and more often deaths if left untreated (Bock et al., 2004).
