My museum visit was such an amazing experience because it was the first time I ever went to such a significant place. The museum I went to was called Via Dolorosa, The Museum of Biblical Art which is located a little outside of Downtown Dallas. As you get to the museum, the whole building is made of Greek architecture with the amazing pieces of the sculpture garden. Then, the same white texture is flowed through the inside of the building with a beautiful white marble and a smooth touch within the sculptures just like a classical period. There is paintings and sculptures of Michelangelo, John Singer Sargent, Marc Chagall and other amazing artists. The exhibit that caught my attention the most and surely will to others is entitled The Art of Aging. …show more content…
A related art work is the painting “The School of Athens” , made by Fresco. Both of these paintings have a unique resemblance between the interior and perspective that make it catch our attention. DiCianni’s medium of work was a mural of oil on canvas, which was painted directly on the wall. In this true oil painting, an iconographic analysis can be made within the details of the mural such as the the sash of Jesus robe. There is a key ring that represents the keys to heaven and hell. Another detail depicted in this painting is the bright bursts of light around the tomb, which illustrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Also, when you see this painting it shows two angels kneeling with swords that have the Star of David and at the other end the Greek letters of Alpha and Omega, meaning Jesus is the beginning and end. The contrast between the dark and light colors clearly explain how the resurrection of Jesus Christ took place. It also uses the elements of art, such as color, temperature, space, and value. Since this is a oil painting, it gives a good emphasis on what catches your attention by the highlight of colors and the dramatic effects it expresses to show the whole
My Humanities Art Experience took place at the Columbus, GA Museum, located on Wynnton Road. I really enjoyed my experience at the museum. It was my first time visiting an American museum. I saw many pieces of fine art, some of which I will list below.
Some of the other museums I have been to have included the South Florida Museum in downtown Bradenton, Florida and the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Tampa right across the street from USF. These are very different from the Ringling because they focus on different types of things. The South Florida Museum is a natural history museum that hosts displays for the public that deals with Florida’s past human civilizations and animal life. It has its own manatee aquarium and planetarium and is very interactive for children. MOSI is more of a science, health, technology, robotics centered museum and works to combine fun with education. It also has its own space planetarium and an IMAX dome that plays different movies and has many things for kids to enjoy themselves while they learn about science. As you can notice these two museums are not at all like the Ringling. Therefore, the Ringling is the only museum of art that has cultivated my understanding, interpretation, and appreciation for European art and the decorative elements that it displays in its galleries. When you are there you truly feel as though the world’s treasures are there before you and you are standing in a palace. With its vast display of Baroque style art from the surrounding regions of Europe, to the decorative objects and Greco-Roma sculptures, and varying
I chose these two museums because I wanted to step out my tree and try going out doing some different else were instead of something around my neighborhood. Pulling up to their area at first was very weird because this was not an environment I was used to being
Christ with Symbols of the Passion by Lavinia Fontana is a small but interesting piece. It depicts Christ being supported by two wingless angels between two wingless angels carrying the cross and two wingless angels holding the column that Christ had been tied to after his arrest. At Christs feet are the other symbols of the passion: The crown of thorns, the whip, and the stones that were cast upon him. In the hand of one of the angels carrying the column are the nails that were used to pin Christ to the cross. At the bottom left corner is a what looks like a gravestone or a carved tablet signed and dated by the artist. They appear to be on a path entering a wooded area and a mountain can be seen in the far background. The subject of the piece is “a scene that does not occur in the Christian Scriptures” (The plaque accompanying the piece) but what makes this piece so interesting is the style of which it was painted. It can’t be stated as a full manneristic piece, but it can be said to have mannerisms main features of unnatural proportions, affected poses, spatial ambiguity, contextual ambiguity, compositional complexity, unnatural palette, and high anxiety varying degrees.
This event is, according to Sundt, “one of the most well-known and referenced events thus tells the story of his final night as a man of flesh and blood” (Sundt 1). In the mural what is being told is Christ and his Disciples all gathered over a table, and here “Jesus blesses the wine and the cup in the ceremony of the Eucharist, he claims that one of his 12 apostles will betray him, and he gives a final sermon or farewell discourse” (Sundt 1). Placing such a historic event on an oil mural, took the early Renaissance to a different level of tradition in that certain field. Since Leonardo da Vinci is an Italian Renaissance man, within the painting, many clues and hints are found, but back then only a couple of other Italians would be understanding his methods. One of the methods used in the Last Supper was a happy device, which according to Goethe was, “the motion of the hands-the whole body is full of animation; every limb participates in the expression of feeling, of passion, even of thought” (Goethe 243). The hand movements of Christ and the others allowed da Vinci to communicate in a manner, where words could not be sufficient. In the Last Supper masterpiece, every characteristic and trait was closely observed by Leonardo da Vinci and each one corresponds as a painting all together. All the Disciples are placed on each side of Christ as a symbolic meaning and the importance
This painting was created during the period of 1495 to 1498.It is a 100% hand painted oil painting painted by Leonardo da Vinci. It is a mural painting known as the Last Supper, which is a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance. This painting represents the last days of Jesus Christ surrounded by his twelve apostles. Jesus believes that one of them will betray him and as seen in the painting this is their reactions to the news.
Since moving here to Texas, I haven’t explored around as much as I wanted to. For the first time, I visited Downtown Dallas and let me tell you.. It was amazing!! I was born in Colombia but was raised in Charlotte, NC so it was really nice to feel like I was home. I went to Dallas Art Museum in downtown Dallas. The museum was humongous!! I think it was about 5-6 stories high or maybe more! When I walked in with my friend this nice lady approached us and gave us a tour around and gave us some lessons of the art we were interested in. She took us to the Egyptian art which I thought was pretty awesome but also scary because one art-piece was a coffin so I am thinking ok a coffin not so scary but when she told me to look closely…. I saw feet!!
Leonardo Da Vinci: Expressing his faith in art Leonardo Da Vinci was one of the most influential people who have ever lived. Not only was he a significant artist and sculptor, but also an engineering genius. Even today many his artworks and 7000 of his manuscript pages still remain. His Image and designs are printed on t-shirts and coffee mugs.
2. This is the very powerful painting where we see Jesus’s dead body surrounded by his families, friends and people who loves him. Jesus body is removed from the cross and is carefully and gently held by his loved ones. There are numerous people around Christ, some are sitting, and some are standing. There are five figures who held Jesus body. There are three females which are wearing long gowns and have halo around their head. Then we have other two figures which have their back towards us, so we can’t identify if they are males or female figure. Jesus body is not touching the ground. The female figure who is cradles around Jesus is more likely his mother, Mary, who is mourning his son’s dead. Mother Mary have her arms around his son and have very sad face. There is a female figure in red hair who is mourning and touching the Jesus’s feet. Two of the figures holding Jesus’s hands. There is young man who symbolism St. John. He has short haircut and halo around his head. He bends towards Christ and his arms stretched outwards. He looks in very deep pain. Behind his are two men who are patiently standing and morning the Christ. There are group of people to the left of the painting who is looking at Jesus in sense of deep
When I saw the painting they really didn’t stand out to much at all, my attention was more drawn with the details on the floor leading my eyes to the background outside. In other words my eyes sort of skipped the capitals on the left hand side. After I read what the capitals depicted I googled the image to see if I could find a closer look into this part of the painting, which I did find and I was able to see what they were depicting. Also, baby Jesus holding a clear globe along with a cross, I also had to google the globe because I couldn’t see it, I was only able to view the cross but I didn’t think about the globe representing Jesus as the creator of the world which makes sense after I read
In this case, he depicts the moment just before the two men lower Jesus into the tomb. In a few seconds, Jesus will be gone and the mourners will be on their own. Compositionally, the painting is based around a diagonal pattern of form and movement, from the hysterical hands of Mary Clopas, down through Mary Magdalene's sagging shoulder, Nicodemus's elbow and Christ's torso, to the end of the white shroud. The fan-shaped pattern upright Mary Clopas, forward-leaning Mary Magdalene, arched Nicodemus and horizontal Christ presents us with a cascade of limbs and heads that adds tension and movement to an essentially 'frozen' snapshot in time. Interestingly, the picture becomes quieter as our eye moves from top to
As I look at Leonardo da Vinci’s painting I realize that a lot when into painting this masterpiece. First, he shows that Christ is in the middle with a natural light behind his head to catch the attention, his body is in a shape of a triangle to show that he is stable, along with the vanishing point above Christ’s head. Second, the light in the background is split in have to show a dark side and a light side. This is an example of subordination and emphasis because attention is drawn to the light and not toward the darker colors. Thirdly, the composition of the painting itself is simple. The vanishing line is the line of heads and the lines that go out from the vanishing point all line up with Christ. This makes it appear that everything coming
The aspect of the case study of Rogier van der Weyden’s Philadelphia Crucifixion that was especially interesting to me was the cultural context. I found this to be the most interesting because, to me, the cultural context is what gives immense meaning to a work of art. By knowing an artist’s intended audience, an artist’s goals, the context of the time and place a work was created, and the background and experiences of the artist, works of art are given much deeper meaning. This painting is not simply a painting depicting the pain those closest to Jesus suffered as a result of his crucifixion; rather, this painting is associated with extremely important moments in the life of the artist, such as his religious pilgrimage to Rome in 1450 and the initiation of his eldest son as a Carthusian monk at around the same time. The artist, whether this panel painting had been created as a donation to the chapel of St. Catherine at Herrines or not, shows how the artist truly embraced his personal experiences and used art to express his
We recently visited three different Museums the Titanic in Pigeon Forge, TN, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, TN, and the Museum of Arts in Huntsville, AL. It was an opportunity to discover and experience the wonders of art through my child's eye. Each place allowed us to step back in time, create a masterpiece and admire the many different styles of art on display.
I visited the Toledo Museum of Art in Toledo, Ohio. The museum has many exhibits, three examples are the impressionism, classicism, and ancient art exhibits. Each exhibit had enjoyable visual works of art. I saw two paintings and two sculptures that were appealing to me. The paintings are The Garden of Eden and Athanor. The sculptures were Portrait of a Freedom Fighter and Hanging Mobile: Horizontal Black With Red Sieve.
