Khan Academy aims to educate people by providing helpful notes in form of short videos. He purposes in this video that intelligence can be expanded and changed. He suggests that intelligence is similar to muscles, both can be enhanced by struggling and straining. Khan Academy explains the concept of building and changing our intelligence as we grow up. He strongly believes that high usage of the human brain leads on to better intelligence in general. He discusses some scenarios including models of a human and animal brain that provides valid information on how the neurons in the brain develop depending on the stimulus that is exposed to them. This video is extremely useful because it provides an explanation of how intelligence can be changed.
This video is a lecture by Jean Kilbourne. She is the creator of several films in the Killing us Softly series, which deal with the exploitation of women in advertising. She is also a famed author, speaker and political advisor.
I agree with Eddy Zhong’s contention, that there is more than one type of intelligence, and that school only helps to build academic intelligence. As kids grow up and enter higher levels of education, they start to lose their creative intelligence. The speaker uses an example of himself. Throughout his school career, he was always a C student, and fell in between the cracks of the academic system. However, when he was invited to a business plan competition, his mindset completely changed. Eddy and his team had won the competition. They had impressed the panel of judges by using their creativity. When most teams created Power Points on their idea, Eddy and his team had went out and purchased materials to create a physical prototype. This was
After watching the video Precious Knowledge, the first example of ethnic studies being threatened/ facing elimination is that senate is passing bills like 2881 that act against diversity and programs that support and culture beyond what is sought to be “fit” in the American educational system. Programs that promote ethnic studies gives students the pride and knowledge of where they have come from and therefore they feel more engaged in the classroom. Leaders like Tom Horne have the right to their own opinion but are being oppressive by not embracing the culture of different ethnic groups. By not attending these classes and trying to relate to these diverse communities; he is creating a dystopia to the American youth. Political leaders should
1.) What is one definition of culture from the sheet "What is Culture?" and what was an illustration/example of this definition that you found in the video?
e.) Education/ pg.488: is a group’s formal system of teaching knowledge, values, and skills. This video clearly shows how the three children did in school. They wanted to balance between getting an education and working. In one of the beginning scenes of the video, it showed Zulema in a meeting with her advisor. She was asking her what her future plans were after high school. Zulema knew that her situation may not get better. This is a typical situation where an immigrant child who is a part of a child labor would not be able to finish the grade they are in. Some many make it to high school, but nothing beyond that point. They know their place and would not be able to leave their family to carry on without them. The children in the video
The person I choose to share to two videos with and talk to was my mom. Some of the statistics flashed across the screen astonished us. The fact that 43 percent live with basic sanitation was shocking to me. To Americans basic sanitation is something that is expected. If we go into a public restroom and see remnants of another person’s fecal matter we are up hauled and disgusted. To think the almost half the world does not even have a clean toilet. To me, it was a real eye opener.
The Hero’s Journey is a theme I was somewhat familiar with prior to viewing the video. Although I haven’t actually read most of them many of my favorite films are from literary works. Many of them were named in the video. I was able to recognize the similar themes in The Wizard of Oz, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Harry Potter.
I found the signing statements the most interesting in Chapter Seven. A signing statement is an announcement made by the president at the time of signing a bill into law. This is used sometimes to show the presidents’ interpretation of the new law and their predictions of the many benefits of the new law. It also has been used to identify sections of the law that are considered improper or unconstitutional. There have been many signing statements throughout history but many of them were not recorded.
If I was going to college next year I would want to have a personal class about sports and athletes. The video made Monsters University look like a good college. It looked like the students had a lot of freedom when it came to choosing classes and clubs .I think a lot of people should go here because of they much more choices. You could probably even create your own club if you don’t like the choices
Some might say that intelligence is everything, that one has to be smart to make it in life, book smart, street smart, either of these will lead to success. IQ is all the rage, it's a competition to see who has the highest IQ as if it can change. The New York Times article entitled “Can You Get Smarter?” written by Richard A. Friedman clearly leads readers to believe that they can indeed expand their initial intelligence, or at least that is what the article appears to be leading readers towards. However I don’t think that one can, so to speak, become smarter. I believe that one can use his brain to unlock what is already there through practice, belief, and exercise.
. Some of the difficulties that students in the video talk about include note taking during lecture, reading comprehension, given less time to complete tests and assignments, and the fact that the workloads in post - secondary education is much more complex than high school.
“A Better Life” reflects the reality of immigrants’ lives. I learned some immigrant experiences through this video.
After watching the two videos, I have realized how much I overlook math every day. Math really is involved in everything we do, see, and use. From construction, to baking, to architecture, to finances, to leaving a tip in a restaurant; Math is everywhere! I guess as I have gotten older, I do not think about math as much. I know that I use it when I go into a store or a restaurant, or when I am making a budget, paying bills, etc., but I never think about math when I see brick wall or a decorative walkway. The video reminded me that when I observe patterns or symmetry, I am actually observing math. I had forgotten all about symmetry, but after watching the video, I can remember being in math class when I was a child and learning about symmetry. I think that it is awesome that symmetry is found in nature. To me it shows God’s wonderful creation and His awesome ability to create beautiful and extravagant things. In fact, it seems that man has copied the works of God in his creation as well. As the video mentioned, we see symmetry in manmade objects such as flags, guitars, and windmills. What greater place to gather information than from the Creator of all things?
After reviewing the video, “How Difficult Can This Be” was a very insightful learning experience. Children with Learning Disabilities differ from “Normal” children in many ways. Mr. Lavoie gave plenty of examples of similarities and contrast. Learning Disabled children seems to process information in a two-step sequence. Though Normal children can process the question and answer at a significant amount of time, the Disabled child processes information in different avenues. A Disabled child could be given a question and break the question down like a who, what, how, why type question. Meanwhile as the Disabled child is still processing, the class has moved on to the next question. Since the class continues, the Disabled child tends to feel the class is moving on to quick. Both children can experience anxiety. Under minimum or severe stress children in general can gain anxiety in a learning atmosphere.
YouTube has become the most popular video sharing website. It has variety of functions that enable a virtual organization to operate and have different kinds of virtuality impact. To compare with the other similar enablers, it has strengths and weaknesses.Advertising and marketing is the most significant one. You also can gain different technology impact from it. From the Web Reviews, we can see there are a lot of merits of YouTube. However, the copyright infringement is still the important problem of it.
