Child abuse, in most cases, end in two different ways. The children are killed, mentally and physically, or the abuse is reported to the authorities. Approximately 5 children die every day because of child abuse. Although many people do not understand how many children are abused, there is a mass amount of content online about this topic and how it affects our society. Both videos are engaging and informative. However, although Video A has better text, Video B’s imagery and sound is more thought provoking, making Video B more effective. Video B has better imagery in comparison to Video A. The imagery showed not just sad children that are beaten, but also a story with clear and memorable scenes. For example, in Video B, it shows a brutal scene of a drunken father ramming his fist into his son’s face; the boy’s face became swollen and bruised. In opposition, Video A only shows a small girl curled into herself as the audience hears muffled shouting. In another scene from Video B, an angled shot of a boy destroying his red new bicycle out of frustration. Showing the viewer how a kid under an abusive home feels powerless. Video B shows how the brutal imagery can affect the viewer, but sound also links with the story is progressing in the video. The sound of a whistle as a kid kicks and smashes his bright red bike into the pavement, anger clear on his face. Or a father’s fist hitting flesh over and over again, the smacking sound echoing in the video. Finally, Video B’s imagery are
They do not deserve to have their lives threatened or to see their mother abused the way she was. However, there were people in my family who felt as though they didn’t need any help or that they were fine and it was all blown out of proportion. While this distortion is damaging to the children who were traumatized, it also shows how trauma affects the person holding the distortion. It shows that their perspective of trauma was handled in a different way than other people and it creates a challenge. It challenged me to understand how different people perceive the trauma of others and how it affects everyone’s lives
Child abuse in America is an ongoing problem and something needs to be done. There are approximately one million children abused annually in the United States. (Table 339) Cases of child abuse and neglect are reported every ten seconds, and researchers believe that there’s three times that amount that goes unnoticed. (Child Abuse: Know the Signs and Stop the Violence Against Children.) Something needs to be done for these children who are too weak and too powerless to help themselves.
Look there---. (sound: Auto sharply veering and skidding. Girl screams.) ( Sound: Crash of car going barbed wire fence, frightening low of steer.)” This demonstrates that the stage directions create imagery because without seeing it, when the listener hears the sound effects they can still picture what is happening in the story.
Has it ever crossed your mind about, how does main stream media have a negative effect on our society today? I feel that main stream media has a few negative effects on our society like: music videos, fast food advertisement's, and cartoons. I feel that it can be hard to control our craves for the fast and easy food. Although, our society may see that eating fast food is convienent, but at the same time the food is harming our health. The cartoons that are supposed to be educational for children, may not be. Even though cartoons may show alphabets, numbers, shapes, and colors; but the bad attitudes and bad body language's that the characters shows are teaching young minds that it is ok to act negatively. The music videos that plays on T.V, show's a lot of negative body language's, inappropriate dressing, inappropriate language's, singing and rapping negatively down on women, singing and rapping about sex, drugs, and drinking, and saying that it's alright to be that way. I feel that dressing in a way that a person is almost naked, just shows how much respect a person has for themselves. To feel that gaining full attention from the opposite sex, because the attention makes women and men feel good about themselves, shouldn't have to be that way of life. I feel that no matter how a person looks or dress, we as people should appreciate the natural beauty that we were born with.
This is achieved through the use of pan shots, combined with non-diegetic sounds. In the scene where Brandy was reading her diary, a pan shot was used to show that she was living in a poor neighbourhood and the negative conditions associated with it. When her dad aggressively pulled her mum through the room and out of the house she described the violence the family experience at the hands of her dad. A mid shot was used to express the anger in the dad's face but also the tears and screaming in her mum’s face. This focuses the audience's attention on the domestic violence that Brandy experiences. The director portrays this through Brandy’s voice over dialogue, “ I watched my mother being half beaten to death…..” This is a powerful use of non diegetic sound combined with a pan shot. This allows the audience to see that the whole family was living in a small house with one bedroom. The reason why the director combines the panning effect with sound is to have a stronger effect and draw stronger emotions from the audience. The use of voiceover and non diegetic sounds create a stronger and more realistic mood for the audience. The use of voiceover during the scene of her mum getting violently pulled and pushed is mixed with panning shots to also show the reaction of the rest of the family as they witnessed the violence. Through the use of these techniques the director encourages audience to think about and emotionally understand what a lot of young people in abusive families go through and the struggles which make them who they are
The documentary “A Child in Rage” gave me an indescribable feeling. The hardships and pain that this little girl had to go through was completely disgusting. Because of her father’s neglect, they made this little girls life a living hell.
The video that I watched was, “Just Melvin, Just Evil – Classic Documentary about abuse”. Just by watching the first twenty-three seconds of this film I felt scared for the children, and anger towards the family member that was going to hurt these innocent children. It frustrates me that some pure, dependent children will have to endure not just pain but to be betrayed by an individual who was suppose to protect them.
The video educated on how often abuse is taking place and it not something that an individual can turn off and on at the drop of a dime. In addition, it implicates all levels of abuse from physical to neglect. For instance, the little girl that underwent interfamilial sexual abuse, I can only empathize with how she must have felt wanting to escape from the pain, especially from someone who is supposed to love and protect her from situations such as the one she is facing. Many parents that abuse their child have some form of substance abuse problem to the point they blame their children for the financial hardships they endure and the lack of social stability (hanging out with friends), failing to realize that the child never asked to be born in the situation.
The sound effects used on this scene is quite attractive. In this scene, there was not
In the brief clip we viewed sound has a huge part in the emotion that is carried out throughout the scene.
Sound is one of the essential parts of a film that helps to attract the attention of an audience at particular moments or to direct emotions of a scene. A filmmaker can tell the story of a movie by reproducing or intensifying that story through sound. The use of diegetic sound, whose source come from what is seen on the screen or by the action within in the scene, is a standard way for audiences to hear or react to a film. The opposite of diegetic sound is non-diegetic sound, whose source cannot be seen by the characters nor is implied but instead comes from a musical score or a narrators commentary (Carlsson). To thoroughly enjoy and view a film of any genre the audience needs the connection from what is being observed to what is being heard.
The visual created by Nate Londa shows that violent media has negative effects on children and is worsened due to how accessible it is. This visual makes a powerful statement about violent media’s influence on young children since it comes in many different forms and due to the young age at which children begin to feel its effects. The image depicts a child turning on a television and being bombarded by a slew of violent weapons, such as grenades, guns, and swords, as well as a fist, which refers to fighting. It is difficult to tell but the background is varying shades of white circles that grow smaller until they center on the image of the child and the tv. This creative technique draws the viewer’s eyes to the central image. The words “silence
Little kids do not understand why they are abused. It is a tragedy to see kids die, injured, helpless, or hopeless because of abuse. Child abuse is a global problem in today’s society, and not many make it preventable in order to protect the victim. The ad exemplifies how an individual’s point of view can influence how they perceive child abuse by using a reflective board which changes based on the physical angle at which an individual views the sign. Through rhetorical appeals, the ANAR Foundation ad “Only for Children” argues that people will only visualize child abuse from their own perspective, rather than from the viewpoint of a victim.
In 2012, an estimated 1,642 children died due to child abuse and neglect, which is 4.5 children every day (Fromm). Approximately 4 out of every 5 are under 5-years-old and children under 1 account for 2 out of 5 of all fatalities. Children under 5 are more likely to die from child abuse due to lack of ability to cope with abuse. Children’s bodies are more fragile and it is easier for an individual to physically harm a small child rather than older children who can somewhat fight back.
For many centuries the laws and federal agencies have failed to protect kids from Child abuse. Child Abuse is a substantial conflict around the world. Approximately five children die every day due to child abuse, something that can easily be prevented. It is time to change this number to zero. No kid deserves to feel the way they feel after being abused; emotionally, physically, or even sexually. The definition of child abuse is a parent or caregiver reflecting violent pain or neglect towards a child. The rate of kids that are being abused should decrease to make this society more effective for kids to feel secure and comfortable with their surroundings. The fact that children have to experience such life scaring memories for the rest of
