The Vietnam War is one of America’s longest lasting wars beginning in 1955, and lasting until 1975. The United States became involved in the Vietnam War because of its efforts to stop communism in Southeast Asia. The United States feared that if communist took over Southeast Asia it would cause a domino effect around the world. The United States began sending financial aid and military advisors to South Vietnam to help stop a communist takeover. North Vietnam was run by communist leader Ho Chi Minh, and the South had a non-communist government. An election to unify Vietnam would be held in 1955, fearing that Ho Chi Minh would win the elections South Vietnam president Ngo Dinh Diem refused to hold an election that would unify the country.

The Vietnam War took place in between 1947- 1975. It consisted of North Vietnam trying to make South Vietnam a communism government. Many citizens were against going to war and thought we had no part, or that we were getting involved for no reason. The Vietnam War caused people to rebel, from different opinions and made them feel the need to try and find different ways to be happy during this brutal time period.

The Vietnamese wanted the desire to have a national government that was truly independent. While the Americans were afraid of communist expansion. Ho Chi Minh who had led a party about communism had great power and because of that Americans were scared that he would spread Communism throughout the world. To prevent from communism affecting the world using the Domino Theory, so America went to War.

The Vietnam War was started when North Vietnam and the Viet Cong started attacking South Vietnam. They did this to unite Vietnam under communist rule. Because North Vietnam did this, South Vietnam asked for help from the US and other allies. When we joined the war the Russians and Chinese joined in also. They were communist countries helping North Vietnam. Jungly terrain made it hard to move supplies and soldiers, so we bombed Vietnam with pesticides. The pesticide , Agent Orange, worked, but it also affected the civilians and killed many of them. Birth defects were passed down through the survivors and killed many more.

The Vietnam War was a war between the Capitalist United States and the Communist North Vietnamese army. This war started in 1964 and it ended in 1975, when the US withdrew its soldiers. The US joined the war to stop the spreading of Communism, because they didn’'t want Russia to gain more allies, as they had been in a cold war with them for years.

The main cause of the Vietnam War revolved around the simple belief held by America that communism was threatening to expand all over south-east Asia. Neither the Soviet Union or the United States could risk an all-out War against each other. Even though the Soviet Union and the USA could not risk an all-out War, they still fought against each other in the Vietnam War.
