With the invention of the camera came the desire for realism. The world was changing and it was happening fast. Fast enough that people were being over looked as business and the need for natural materials lead the way. Through war in France came realism and it caused discomfort at the sight of unpleasant looking locals and grim topics, such as death. Artists were really on top of their game with the material added in their paintings that represented serious political issues and issues with the church. If I had not read about the paintings I would not have looked at them in a more serious light. I would have continued to believe these were relaxed beautiful paintings of people in the 1800's. Socialism along with many other ideologies has a vast number of different strands and with a couple of different roads to achieving what is fundamentally socialism. Socialism being the ideology that utilises collectivisation to bring people together and to unite people by their common humanity. The two most obvious roads of socialism would be that of revolutionary socialism and also that of evolutionary socialism. This are taken on by two different types of socialists, revisionist socialists and fundamentalist socialists. It was the first revolution to majorly succeed and change how people saw their countries, it was the American Revolution. The American Revolution was the first successful revolution against a European empire that provided a model for many other colonial peoples who realized that they too could break away and become self-governing nations (New world Encyclopedia, 1).The American Revolution was vital to history because ideas seen by other countries started a chain reaction. Many ideas were taken into account when the Americans revolted against Europe and all of these played important factors throughout history. Ideas about liberty, equality, representation, and natural rights were first seen as properly put into action to change old systems in the American Revolution. As the American Revolution was the first to succeed and earn freedom, it greatly affected countries all around the world on how they made freedom and equality a part of their government

Socialism is the underlying motivation behind communist movements in history. Socialists believe that it is unjust for a small amount of people to own the biggest portion of the wealth in society. This idea lead to the concept of a communist society, in which the existence of private property is eliminated in favor of government-owned property being shared among all it’s people. The government would provide jobs and care for all people equally. The idea was that through communism, there would be no social classes, thus eliminating alienation for any of the people in the society.

Realism is the artistic attempt to recreate life as it is in the context of an artistic medium. It began as a revolt against the conventions of the classic view of art in the late 1800s in America and Europe in the form of an artistic movement (McConnel, R. 1997). There are many themes involved with realism that shall be discussed. These include accuracy and independence.

Realism is a type of art that illustrates how the world and people really look. “Realism started in the mid-19th century in which figures and scenes are depicted as they are experienced or might be experienced in everyday life (Fine Arts).” Gustave Courbet was the first person to introduce Realism into the art world. He was a French painter who painted Romanticism before discovering Realism (Introduction to the Artistic Style of Realism). He inspired many other painters such as Edouard Manet and John Sargent.

It also is a political theory and movement aiming to establish a system. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels expressed what they thought was scientific socialism. Socialism was first brought up in the 1848 right before the Revolutions swept Europe. Socialism was important because it was the reason that individuals or groups couldn’t round up enough resources to out do another group. With social equality in mind, it was intended to serve as a system that treat all humans equally and freedom to work. One thing about socialism that is very effective is that it can either go through a government or in a direct community organization.

The realism era came about during the time of the Romantics, the time where imagination and ideology painted the artists canvas. To be a realist meant that an artist would paint what he actually saw and not an idea of something. For instance, if an artist were to paint a depiction of war, then all the gruesome details would probably be considered in the piece of art. The artist that essentially paved the way out of Romanticism and into the era of Realism was Gustave Courbet considered by some to be the first realist.

The music of the 19th and 20th centuries is classified as late Classical and Romantic periods. During this time frame, composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Mendelssohn, and Schumann thrived. Throughout the 1800s, music was extremely diverse in composition and performance, and much of the music centered on people’s religious preferences and nationality.

Throughout the course of the past four centuries in France, the value of liberty and freedom transcends from history into art. During the American Revolutionary War, Lafayette, a Frenchman, risked his life with the decision to assist the American people with the fight for freedom against England. America’s accomplishment inspired French citizens to start their own revolution against their oppressive monarchy. Artists captured the essence of revolution in their works, such as Delacroix did in his Liberty Leading the People. Realism was a huge movement in late 1800s to early 1900s. All art forms were influenced by it. Writers, artists, actors and more started taking a more simple direction and tried to depict life as it actually was. In visual art it was common to see ordinary people doing every day

Gustave Courbet, a major influence of the Realism movement, defined Realism as a "human conclusion which awakened the very forces of man against paganism, Greco-Roman art, the Renaissance, Catholicism, and the gods and demigods, in short against the conventional ideal” (New World Encyclopedia). According to the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary, the definition of realism is the theory or practice in art or literature of fidelity to nature or to real life and to accurate representation without idealization of the most typical views, details, and surroundings of the subject (Merriam-Webster). Realism was an artistic and cultural movement that first occurred in Europe during the mid-nineteenth century. It

Realism is a form of art in light of the unforgiving delineation of regular living states of common individuals from the lower classes of society. Artists of Realism felt it was critical to handle social issues of modern life and transform their specialty into a reflection on the predicament of individuals. Realist did not attempt incredibly in the design of models. In Victor Hugo 's, Les Misérables he discusses the Parisian underworld and submerging into a fight amongst great and wickedness.

Realism began in France in the 1840’s. It was the first unconventional, anti-institutional art movement. It challenged Neoclassicism and Romanticism by diverting every ones attention to more social issues which were brought by the disturbed and raging 19th century. In simpler words, Realism was, opposed to the Romanticism ways of merely representing nature, an approach to art to position oneself in the “real”, whether it was scientifically, morally, constitutionally, or even theoretically. When it comes to theoretical beliefs, Realism incorporated the progressive aims of modernism. This was done through pursuing new certainties, by reconsidering and capsizing customary systems of philosophies and morals.
