The influence of Visual media on young adults has been a part of the world’s problem for many years. With visual media being part of their everyday lives it’s now very risky to even allow young adults to watch their favorite shows due to the amount of violence and profanity on television. Visual media, such as reality shows, news media, and commercials negatively affects young adults. Among the many negative aspects of visual media that affects young adults, reality shows would be right at the top. Reality shows are young adult’s top entertainment, because it’s full of fun, partying, fighting and drama which can lead to negative behavior. With things happening in the world every day, news media introduce the violent, depressing, and emotionally-charged (Gregoire Carolyn). The exposure to negative and violent media affects how young adults interpret and interact with the world around them. Indicating, that young adults may become attuned to negative and threatening events that they show on the news and may be more likely to find their problems difficult to control and more distressing than it would normally be. Clearly not everyone agrees that visual media has a negative impact on young adults, and the opposition has its own appeal about how visual media affects young adults. One appeal is that visual media could be a powerful teacher. This means that visual media could be a powerful tool for educating young adults about responsibilities and risks. The appeal is that young adults could get into the visual media and it could still impact them in a knowledgeable way, whether it’s educational or life lessons. This is an implication that when young adult watch a significant type of visual media it will increase their intellectual growth (Wilson 2008). The truth is neither side wants visual media to affect young adults in such a negative way. Certainly the well-being of young adults is a concern for both sides.
