In these dry deserts of Nevada and surrounds states, you can find the Desert Cottontail Rabbit (Sylvilagusaudubonii) hiding in shrubs or running to shelter. This brownish grey cottontail finds itself surviving living in burrows made by other rodents and coming out throughout night hours. These desert cottontails reproduce quickly due to the short life span of 2 years. The structure of these cottontails provides them defense against their pray by using their feet and paws to slap predators or jumping to avoid surprise attacks. With the hotter and drier lands as the years go by, the cottontails fight to keep their population growing no matter the circumstances. From dancing face to face to chasing each other, these cottontails will find themselves having fun before mating which is
The Stegosaurus is said to be twenty-six to thirty feet long and about nine feet tall! the stegosaurs weighed six thousand-eight hundred pounds, can you believe that? but it had a very small brain, about the size of a nut. they are herbivores, meaning they only eat low plants and crops. they have seventeen bone plates that grew out of its back! some think that their plates helped them look bigger maybe to scare off the meat eaters or maybe just to show off. they also have spikes on their tail, the stegosaurus tail is four feet long as their tail is also very flexible and they can use to protect themselves from large predators or scare those carnivores. Its name also means covered lizard, they could not walk very fast and some paleontologists believe that if that if they had blood veales running through their plates that its plates could change color, pretty interesting right?
Stegosaurus is a genus of armored dinosaur. Their fossilized bones have been found in rocks dating to the late Jurassic period, between 155 and 150 million years ago, in the western United States and Portugal. Colorado is when the very first Stegosaurus fossil was found in 1876. Stegosaurus was designated the official state fossil of Colorado in 1982. Colorado is where the the very first stegosaurus fossil was found in
The Red-Crested Tree-Rat is thought (because only three have been seen) to only exist in Colombia. Its natural habitat is moist tropical Colombian forests. The tree rat as only been seen at altitudes of 700 to 2,300m in Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta making it hard to find. The location is isolated and a lot of the animals living here are only found here. The habitat of the the Santamartamys is sadly suffering degradation.
It is well known that some female insects and spiders eat the males during and after mating and the praying mantis and the black widow spider are two examples. Scientists have always believed that the males were eaten because they weren’t able to get away. The male it was assumed would try to survive to breed again the female simply considered the male as food. The two were seen as antagonists in a real-life “battle of the sexes.”

The Mountain Pygmy Possum is the only Australian mammal whose distribution is limited to alpine and sub-alpine regions where there is an unbroken period of snow cover for up to six months. Perfect or high quality habitat for these possums includes deep boulder fields with high elevations, high obtainability of the Bogong Moth and another food source such as seeds nearby. These factors influence hibernation, food availability, nesting and survival.
What exactly makes the Loch Ness Monster a monster? Besides the name of course, the “monstrous” characteristics this creature holds is due to its secretive nature and physical appearance. When you think of a monster you get an image in your head of some sort. Possibly one with sharp teeth, a gigantic body, and mysterious behavior. The Loch Ness Monster seems to fit some, if not, all of these descriptions.
My brother Broden has a turtle, his name is Sam. Sam is a painted turtle, a painted turtles are the most widespread native turtle of North America. Sam eats about 12 to 15 pieces of food twice a day. My brother has to feed him when he eats breakfast and when he eats supper. Sometimes Broden takes Sam out for a walk on our driveway, other times Broden puts Sam on the trampoline and lets him walk around on it. Broden got Sam from a pet store in Iowa City, and he is not very good at feeding him so often times I have to feed him instead. You can tell if a painted turtle is a boy or a girl because males have long tales that are wide at the base like Sams, and females tales are thin and short.
The Columbia Basin Pygmy Rabbit is a small, slate gray leporid that is endemic to North America’s remote sagebrush-steppe habitats. These sagebrush-steppe habitats include regions in southwestern Montana, northeastern California, southern Idaho, central and northern parts of Nevada, central and eastern parts of Oregon, northwest Utah, and lastly, southeastern Washington. The Pygmy Rabbits are truly small because they can grow up to 11 inches and weigh only 16 ounces (1 lb.).During the winter months, the Pygmy Rabbit lives solely off of sagebrush, and in the spring/summer months, both sagebrush and different types of grasses.
. but the logistics are much more complex when it comes to bunny breeding. There are signs and tell alls that many people are blind to. Oddly enough.. more often than not, the female is the one who gives the approval of the male. Bunny "foreplay" consists of the male circling and showing off his tail. The more interesting topic of bunny breeding is the buffer time at which they can begin to breed again. For bunnies, a full breeding cycle only takes roughly 10 - 20 seconds. This is believed to be so because they are pre animals, so in order to multiply they have evolved to be one of the fastest breeding species in existence.. or at least in existence on this planet. Who knows what's out there. An average bunny reaches sexual maturity around
The hispaniolan solenodon is hunted by mongoose, domestic cats, and domestic dogs, but to this day it lacks any natural predators. It barely contributes to the ecosystem, due to small numbers. It used to destroy crops, by tunneling. It was not classified as endangered in 1960. It is going extinct due to forest decline, increased human activity in their habitat, and the introduction of new
Volcanic eruptions have occurred very seldom throughout the years, but when they erupt the amount of carbon dioxide they produce is massive. When volcanoes erupt, they produce tiny reflective particles that go into the air and the atmosphere. These particles however, reflect incoming energy from the sun not the radiation that is trying to escape. This would cause the earth’s surface to cool not warm. New ground, air and satellite measurements across the globe show that the one or two volcanic eruptions each year have deflected almost double the amount of solar radiation than previously estimated (“Could volcanoes help slow global warming”). When a volcano erupts, it produces small droplets of sulfuric acid which combine with oxygen and stay
