Volleyball Games - Original Writing

Going through our warm up, like all volleyball games start, Brenna and I get our arms loose and get our brains ready for action. We throw the ball back and forth. We go through all the drills of our warm up until the buzzer rings. Finally it is game time. The ball flies across the net to the other team. We all stand in our positions waiting for the return. The ball comes and two of my teammates go for the same ball. One yells, “Got it!” while the other just stand there assuming the other one knows they are going to get it. The ball shanks off and hits the floor. My teammates and I come together. Some yell at the others and say “Talk!” making the players that messed up feel like a puppy that has just been scolded by its master. Others try to pick up the teammates by saying things like, “It is okay. Get the next one.” or “Believe in yourself and your teammates.” If you have ever been apart of a sport’s team, you know every player has a different personality. Some may be uplifting, and others can drag you to the ground. Every team strives to get along, but how is that going to work when there is always a person who brings down everyone else? Fortunately, not all teammates are rude and hurtful. There are some who try and help out to lift the spirits and encourage others. Teams are only going to succeed when they’re all able to find common ground and work together as teammates should. According to Webster’s dictionary, a teammate is a fellow member of a team, but I see it as
