One of the main diclofenac containing suppositories in the market is Voltarol which is available in different strengths. However, Voltarol does not have bioadhesive properties and it is not regarded as a fast acting formulation. The conventional suppositories have problems related to the release of the drug. They take a long time to melt and release the drug leading to delayed therapeutic effects. Also, the suppositories have a reduced bioavailability and this is due to the unpredictable or incomplete absorption of the drug in the rectum. Furthermore, conventional suppositories have a poor retention in the lower rectum. This causes the suppository to migrate to the upper rectum making it more susceptible to first pass metabolism hence reducing
2. Physicians will see increased compliance of the drug in their patients as the drug is not patient administered but provider administered. Will limit the variations in dosing patterns and practices. Provide alternatives for treatment. Improve revenue as it is administered in the office rather than at home.
I believe that the tablet takes longer to give the body and system the relief feeling and the injectable liquid spreads quicker and makes you feel better.
Jennifer Erickson was employed by Bartell Drug Company. Jennifer sued the company because its insurance plan failed to provide coverage for prescription contraceptives. She alleged that this was a form of sex discrimination under Title VII and a violation of the Pregnancy Act (PDA). Her employer defended by arguing that its failure to provide coverage for prescription contraceptives did not violate Title VII or the PDA because prescription contraceptives were voluntary, were preventive, were used by women only, and did not treat or prevent an illness or disease and because control of one’s fertility choices was not pregnancy, childbirth, or a related medical condition under PDA. Bartell Drug Company did cover vasectomy surgery for men. Is preventing pregnancy for women only a form of sex discrimination? Is it a form of pregnancy
Pharmacists’ main focus is to ensure patients have the best medication outcomes. However, Jessica Thompson never experienced this. Due to the laziest of the pharmacist and others, Jessica did not receive the help she was entitled to. First, the technician used the wrong percentage of sodium chloride solution and did properly check with the pharmacist to ensure it was the right dose. Second, the pharmacist did not follow up with the tech to ensure the correct medication and dosage was right even after seeing a spent bag, Third, the nurses and doctors should have noticed changes in Jessica’s vital signs and after her complaining about headaches. Clearly, interest was not in the patient.
The advantage of this method is that you can avoid constant catheterization which is associated with several problems, such as male infertility and tract infections. The method also ensures that patients can keep their bladder pressure low throughout the day. These catheters do not cause prolonged issues and can easily be avoided once the person is able to use ordinary methods.
It is very important for the researcher to control the extraneous variable that could affect the study results. The extraneous variables that would affect the results in this study include, the catheter material, the catheter care, and the method of obtaining the urine sample. To control the catheter material, this study will be using the antimicrobial and antiseptic-impregnated catheters instead of the standard catheters as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2009 guidelines because they are effective in reducing the risk of CAUTIs. To control the catheter care, the study will follow the CDC guidelines for routine catheter care by ensuring that all the indwelling urinary catheters (IUC) maintain a sealed drainage system, and an unobstructed urine flow. In addition, the nursing staff will be cleansing the meatal area daily with warm soapy water instead of antiseptics, while maintaining the standard precautions including hand hygiene and wearing of gloves while performing peri-urethral care. To control the procedure for obtaining urine sample, the study will use the CDC recommendation for collecting the urine sample aseptically, by aspirating the urine from the sampling port with a sterile syringe after thoroughly cleansing the port with an antiseptic wipe (Gould et al., n.d.).
There have been extensive technological advancements in the healthcare field, one of them being the indwelling urinary catheter. The use of indwelling urinary catheters in the hospital setting has proven to be an effective way of treating certain urinary problems, when necessary. For example, when a patient is in pain because his or her bladder is distended due to urinary retention, or when a patient is post-op and unable to void. However, the use of indwelling catheters is not always free of consequence. Healthcare providers must consider the risks and benefits of catheter insertion, as indwelling catheters pose a risk of urinary tract infection from the moment they enter the patient. The American Nurses Association used evidence-based practice to develop the CAUTI Prevention Tool, which has been effective in reducing the incidence of catheter-associated urinary tract infections in hospitals.
Adverse drug events. Adverse reaction of aspirin includes gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, dyspepsia, nausea, abdominal pain, hepatotoxicity, anemia, urticaria and hemolysis (Ciccone, 2013). Some other major side effects of aspirin include stomach cramping, tarry stools, bloody urine, confusion, constipation, difficulty breathing, general tiredness, heartburn, irregular heartbeat, muscle cramping, muscle tremors, restlessness, seizures, unusual bleeding, weight gain, and yellow eyes (Drugs.com, 2017a) Aspirin had major drug-drug interaction with increased bleeding with other drugs include warfarin, heparin, thrombolytic agents, ticlopidine, clopidogrel, ibuprofen, cefoperazone, phenytoin, and diuretics (Ciccone, 2013). Foods that increase
These two days, I am spending time shadowing clinical pharmacists in different inpatient units, which turns out to be an eye-opening experience to me. For the first two days, I shadowed a clinical pharmacist in the trauma unit. It is really cool to see how different healthcare professions work as a healthcare team in a level 1 trauma hospital, with daily rounds and close cooperation between the pharmacist and other care providers. Today, my pharmacist and I discuss an ethical case which I think it is worthy to share. The case is a 92-year-old Hmong man who admitted to the hospital in early April and stays in the inpatient unit ever since. His main concern is multiple drug resistant tuberculosis, however, he refuses to take his medications including
The way in which information is presented to us is what leads to the comprehension and the understanding of a topic, but it can also affect the things we view as facts. Our main source of information comes from the media and it is what helps us gain a sense of the world we live in and the happenings around it, but sometimes it clouds our perception giving us a false sense of reality when it comes to news.
When I started my placement , Mrs . X who was suffering from Parkinsonism and dementia was on Indwelling urinary catheter for the management of urinary incontinence. Adhering to the results from the literature review I planned for initiating several steps to control incontinence in Mrs. X. My mentor was always with me with full support and guidelines. Fluid management was the first step started. An input output chart was kept and well maintained. Then steps wre also taken to manage constipation. Exercises were the last method practiced and the final result was really appreciable as she got a great reduction in the incontinence rate.
There are many advantages and disadvantages surrounding the use of suppositories when compared to other routes of administration. One of the many advantages of suppositories is that they can be used to deliver drugs locally or systemically. This is effective because if the suppository needs to release the drug locally, it will have a rapid mode of action and onset as well as fewer side effects. These types of suppositories are mainly used to treat haemorrhoids, constipation and other gastro intestinal (GI) problems. Also, the suppository can have a systemic effect, i.e. for pain relief. Even though there are problems surrounding side effects, when the suppositories have systemic
As the brand manager for Allround cold medicine, there were many decisions regarding product formulation, strategy, line extensions and product launches over the company’s last 10 periods. The brand was focused on remaining a profitable, mature product family within the cold medicine category, but also maintaining a premium brand image.
Being on narcotics increases the risk of constipation. The patient has not had a bowel movement in three days. I made this my second priority. I worked with the nurse to contact the physician. He then wrote an order
A good blood flow is essential for UF treatment; therefore, a central line is usually needed. A continuous heparin infusion titrated to a nomogram is necessary in order to prevent clotting of the UF filter. The patient must be monitored for hypotension and hypovolemia; therefore, frequent vital signs and accurate urinary output measurement is essential (Wick & Bakhai, 2012). The most commonly reported adverse events associated with UF are clotting of the filter, transient hypotension, and pain or infection at the catheter site. There is some evidence that the risk of adverse events is higher when the fluid removal rate is too high. Selection of candidates for UF is controversial at present, and a clinical selection tool would be beneficial (Wick & Bakhai, 2012).
