Even though having more legislation to help limit animal cruelty cases is a good idea, there are some downfalls to this solution. One downfall mentioned before is that not everyone goes out and votes. This issue has grown over the years. As also mentioned in the previous paragraph, only about half of the eligible voters across the nation votes. Voting is like making sure your voice is heard. Without everyone's input, the voting system is not fair and is not an accurate representation of what the citizens of the United States want for the government. Now, I am not saying that voting is the only way the government collects input from the citizens but it is their main system of gathering opinions. Another downfall to the solution is that not everyone
The rate at which animal cruelty occurs is at an alarming 71% in the United States according to ASPCA. Every 60 seconds, another animal is abused by a caretaker. Overall, cruelty encompasses neglect, abuse, abandonment, sexual abuse of animals and animal fighting. Due to efforts by organizations such as PETA, ASPCA, HSUS in educating and providing awareness to the topic of animal cruelty, many more individuals have become more aware of their actions against animals. In conjunction with these listed organizations, states such as Maryland have adopted legislation to help combat animal cruelty and serve as advocates for animals. The three most rigorous forms of animal abuse that need to be tackled are as followed, neglect, hoarding, and
Animal Cruelty is a problem that many ignore. People are oblivious to these animals and the negligence their owners show. Animal cruelty is an underlying problem in today’s society, and the only way to counteract these problems, is for this generation to do something about it.
The abuse and cruelty by humans towards animals have been on the rise as producers and retailers of cosmetics and drugs rush to position their products in the global markets. Scientific tests remain a leading player in animal abuse, especially due to the controlled environment while being experimented (Norton, 157). While there are myriads of local and international rules and regulations guiding the human
Many people may not know that animal cruelty has been around for hundreds of years. . In the article "Animal Cruelty Prosecution" published by American Prosecution Research Institute found that, The Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay Colony established “The Body of Liberties” found by the Animal Cruelty Prosecution, in 1641. The Body of Liberties was a document written for the protection of animals from unnecessary pain and suffering. Animal cruelty happens every day whether it is from starving, beating, lack of medical care or proper housing for animals. We are in need of stricter laws to help fight the rights of animals. Animal laws should be more strict on people
When discussing the ethos of a topic, the most important point to consider is the credibility of the organization that distributed the information. If the source has had bias information in the past, then viewers may have a different opinion on them. As a result of this, their thoughts on the image and the topic may be dishonest. When looking at an image with no inaccurate facts or bias information, readers should be able to formulate a truthful opinion on the piece. The organization that created this image is PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which is well known for speaking the truth about animal cruelty and the actions that need to be taken in order to end the inhumane actions that are continuously done to animals. By the
Animal cruelty laws have to be changed. They are not straightforward or strict at all, animal abuse is at a higher percentage because people know they will and can get away with it. If the Government could just make these laws a little more strict, then we would not have so much violence towards animals. They are mistreated for the pleasure of a different species, humans. Which is horrible in every way, shape, and form. If citizens of the world want peace on earth and less violence than they need to start with the smaller things, like this, then that would slowly but surely get us to less violence. It could make a huge change in the world if people took a stand for making animal cruelty laws less strict.
The debate of whether or not animals should be allowed to be used as subjects in research, entertainment, or clothing is one of the most controversial issues known in today’s society (Parks 21). Through time, animal rights have acquired several different definitions and opinions from people. Regarding their belief about the true meaning of animal rights, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), a largely recognized animal rights activist organization, states:
Imagine being abused everyday of your life with no say whatsoever in what happens to you and it seems as if no one can hear you scream. This is what many animals go through every day as the numbers of animal cruelty cases rise every day and it seems like everyone is just turning their heads to the problem. The only way to fix this problem is to take action and give animals the voice they have needed. Animals have been taken advantage of since the dawn of man when man developed tools to kill the animals that led to the extinction of some species.
Most people will step on an insect without a second thought while ordering a double-double at In-N-Out. There is a vocal minority of people who will not step on that insect, but order a grilled cheese at the very same In-N-Out. There is an even smaller minority who will not even order the cheese because a cow had to produce milk to make the cheese. The subject of animal rights incites heated debates. On one end of the spectrum would be animal rights organizations like People for the Ethical treatment of Animals or PETA for short. PETA takes a stance against any use of any animal, even using silk from silk worms. According to this organization, the only tolerable use of an animal is a neutered companion pet in the backyard. On the other end of the spectrum would be the people like the infamous dentist, Walter Palmer, who paid thousands of dollars to African hunting guides to lure a lion off an animal preserve in order to shoot it. Palmer then had the lion stuffed and mounted to a board by a taxidermist to remember his kill. Most Americans ' beliefs fall somewhere in between Palmer and PETA.
There’s been a significant amount of legislation passed into law based on honoring crime victims in Tennessee. Some of these include the examples I listed above, which include Amelia’s Law, the Kelsey Smith Act, and Erin’s Law. There are many more to include the Channon Christian and Chris Newsom Acts, Victim’s Rights Photo Act, Mabry Kate Webb Act, and Dustin’s law, even though this particular legislation has been delayed being passed into law.
Animal Cruelty is a major problem in today's society, and the consequences of these actions are not as severe as the consequences should be. These crimes should be punishable and equal to human assaults. For example if anyone were to assault a human and get two years, then the person abusing an animal should get two years as well. Animals are living things just as humans are so the crimes should be equal in punishment. Several animal crime punishments are dependent on the severity of the crime which is not acceptable. They should be two year minimum if anyone decided to hurt an animal, it would be the right consequence to hurting a living creature. There are several types of animal abuse in today's society, such as dog fighting, hoarding, puppy mills (animal breeding) and other cruel acts of torment. Dogfighting is one of many acts of torture upon animals which has become a huge problem due to the fact that people do it to entertainment themselves or for a profit. The ASPCA said “Dog fighting is often associated with other forms of criminal activity including illegal gambling and possession of drugs and firearms. By our estimate, there are tens of thousands of dog fighters in the U.S., forcing hundreds of thousands of dogs to train, fight, and suffer every year” (ASPCA 2017). Another major issue that abuses animals is animal hoarding in the United States, with certain people not knowing when enough is enough. For example most people who hoard animals are not usually aware of how many animals are on the premises and that they are in fact hurting the animal instead of making a difference in these animals’ lives. In addition the ASPCA has found that, “Every year in the United States, a quarter of a million animals fall victim to hoarding” (ASPCA 2017). Another type of animal cruelty that not to many people think about are the puppy mills, which are just dog breeding factories who care about nothing but the profit of the puppies. When people go into the malls and they purchase a puppy from the pet store, these people may not realize but are helping the people who run the puppy mills make a profit and continue to hurt these innocent animals. “In addition, puppy mill puppies often arrive in pet stores and in their
In a world where one hundred fifty billion animals are killed yearly, the same question of these animal’s rights are debated relentlessly. Whether for religion or moral values, activists banded together to form anti-cruelty groups to stop these murders. As time passed, groups emerged and started to campaign against animal testing for research. With the goal of abolishing these tests in mind, orginizations looked to the public in order to convince legislatures to abolish using animals in biomedical labs. Thus, activists exercised their rights given by the first amendment; Using the press, assembly, and freedom to gain support and help the movement go viral.
For many years now the world has seen controversy over the rights of animals and if they think and feel like humans do. Many people see animals as mindless creatures or as food, while others think they have emotions and can feel pain. In other countries animal protection laws are in place that are strictly enforced and seem to work well with the system. In the United States however; some of the animal rights laws are considered to be useless and under-enforced (Animal Legal & Historical Center). More people today are beginning to see that animals should have rights and should be protected by laws and regulations (Animal Legal & Historical Center). Sadly there are many people residing in the United States who don’t take animal rights or protection laws seriously. These people abuse animals in many ways, including food industries that disobey the regulations set in place for the slaughter of animals used for consumption. Luckily for the animals there are people who fight for their rights and the enforcement of laws called animal rights activists.
Every living being has some rights. Animals are living beings so they have certain rights on the people living in the world. There are various types of animals found in every part of the world. People eat some of the animals. For instance, they eat goats, cows, swine, chickens etc. These are the animals that are considered favorite foods people. It is also not only about eating them; it is also about trading them legally and illegally to get the financial benefit. In fact, there are many organizations around the world that are involved in it. In addition, there are other animals too that are becoming the victim of the torture of the human beings. They include cats, dogs, elephants, etc.
One of the biggest issues in today’s diet is in the increase in meat. This has led to animal cruelty being a relevant topic in today’s fast-paced society. Many people do not know that animal cruelty happens every day. Humans want the next invention that they do not even think about the consequences of this wanting. The expansion of agriculture to produce more meat and more byproducts has led society to animal cruelty. I will argue that human increase in desires and increase in meat-based diets has created an evil corporation in agriculture.
