Part I: Definition of a hero The word hero can be defined in a multitude of ways, since people have their own heroes which must have something valuable for people to talk about even follow. People usually look to their heroes to illuminate their own paths to in life. But for me personally, Warren Buffett is a guiding light for me in my study of finances. This is because I believe a hero should be a true visionary, someone who contributes and influences others, as well as demonstrating a strong social responsibility. I will explain the importance of each one of these characteristics. Being visionary is a significant trait of a hero should have. He is the most successful investor of the 20th century. He was born on August 30, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. He has two sisters, and he is the only son of his parents. He married with Susan Buffett and has three children now. (“Warren Buffett Fast Facts” by CNN library)
For education, Buffett showed a gift in math when he was in high school. Buffett entered the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1947. Then he transferred and finished his bachelor’s degree at University of Nebraska–Lincoln. After he was rejected by Harvard University, he entered Columbia Business School with the instruction of Benjamin Graham. Buffett opened his first company named Buffett Associates, Ltd on 1954. He built several partnership businesses with his friends later and merged them into Buffett Partnership, Ltd. He practiced the investment philosophy and compensation structure of Graham. He built Berkshire Hathaway Corporation which was a textile mill in 1956.
