I think the French Revolution was successful because it stabilized France’s economy and a new constitution that is beneficial for the people was created. An example is that before the French Revolution people were taxed differently, “Lands held by nobility are taxed very little...Lands held by commoners are taxed heavily” (Young, Doc #2). This shows that the economy was very bad because the “poor’s” were being taxed more than the ones that had more money, this caused a lot of hunger in people. Although after the French Revolution, a new constitution was created for France in which gave people rights. This is shown when in Doc #1 one of the articles is, “Men are born and remain free and equal in rights.” This demonstrates that know people can
On July 14, 1789 a mob of craftsmen, salesmen, and rebellious soldiers stormed the Bastille (state prison) to get powder and shot for their muskets. When the guards defending the prison resisted a battle ensued and the Bastille was eventually captured. This marked the beginning of the bloody French Revolution. The revolution in France was based on three principles, liberty, equality, and fraternity. These ideals radically changed European politics and brought about the idea of nationalism, which enabled the creation of the “people’s army” in France. The notion of national fraternity was a very powerful and paved the way for a renovation in how military affairs. How and why did the French Revolution factor in military change? The military
The main reason it was successful was that it was not a rebellion against the government, but against having too much government controlling the people. Whereas, the French revolution was considered a “true” rebellion against the King and the government. The French people were the ones fighting to gain freedom beginning with the Storming of the Bastille. Also, both countries were suffering because they were in debt from the Seven Years War. Many taxes were put on each country to pay these debts off, leading to many protests and rebellions.
During the French Revolution people had their rights violated and taken away one law contributing to
The French Revolution produced many changes both in France and in Europe as a whole. The most evident change brought by the French Revolution was the move from absolutism to republicanism that represents a shift towards democracy. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, which was announced in 1789, was arguably the foundations of the human rights and many constitutions in democratic countries like the Britain and America. The concept is based on the “natural rights” that were established as universal moral standards and it significantly influenced many revolutions, especially the American Revolution. Ironically, the idea of “natural rights” was not universal as the rights for women and slaves were excluded when it was first conceived; these rights were only applied to certain groups of people, which is unnatural. The two declarations of rights of man and woman, and a public speech by Frederick Douglass describe similar attempts of gaining the rights, and liberties of the individual but their approaches to the subject are different. The Declaration of Rights of Women and a speech modified the Declaration of Rights of Man to extend the denotation of the other individuals to include women and slavery. Thus, although the Rights of Man and Citizen was considered as a significant basis of defining rights, it only generated more unrighteousness and conflict in the long run as it was missing two important subjects.
There are many opinions in if the French Revolution changed anything or not. The French Revolution started with stopping absolute monarchy and it ended with an absolute monarchy.
The Jacobin’s saw that this was the only alternative if the revolution was to he secured. The Jacobins attacked the “fake
When oppressed by a certain style of leadership, revolution becomes a stepping stone to freedom. Due to corruption in the top ranks of society and economic troubles for those below, a French Revolution was the way the troubled citizens chose to exercise their rights. In response to the uneven rights going around France, with in the seigniorial system that gave rights and privileges only to the first (the clergy), the second estate (the nobility) and not the third estate (the commoners), the National Assembly wrote the inspiration of what to achieve for the people of France, known as The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen in the 18th century, which fought for liberty, equality, and fraternity. Even though a revolution moved France
The French Revolution could have been inevitable. The French Revolution lasted from 1789 to 1799, during the course of the French Revolution, the city of France changed from being an absolute monarchy, to a republic. Supposedly, the citizens were all free and equal amongst each other. The French Revolution could have been prevented because of the social status differences between the peasants and nobles. Economically, there were several changes that could have been adjusted to prevent feud between the people. Because of the poor farm harvests, such as rainy, gloomy and/or cold weather affected the economy. This was one of their ways of making money, through the farmers. The farmers only source of income were the cash crops. Poor farm harvests
Unfortunately the revolution was very chaotic and not organized. many innocent lives were lost but many advancements for France’s future were
The initial impulse of the French revolution was destructive. For those who lived through all, or even part, of these vast upheavals, the shock was overwhelming. Maximilien Robespierre was a proud disciple of the enlightenment and declared that no political writer had foreseen this revolution. Robespierre (1758-1794) was one of the leaders of the Committee of Public Safety, the effective governing body of France during the most radical phase of the revolution. The leaders of this revolution attempted, perhaps more than any other revolutionary leaders before or since, to totally transform human society in every way. (Supreme Being) Although Robespierre began with patriotic intent he still was the face of the Reign of Terror and was viewed as being a radical person.
What caused the French Revolution to radicalize? Historians such as Timothy Tackett and David A. Bell explore that question implicitly in When the King Took Flight and The First Total War respectively. Although they are two profoundly different books, both point to fear as a causal force in the radicalization of the Revolution. However, Tackett suggests that the flight of the King created fears of counterrevolutionary conspiracies and suspicion as a result of France’s regime changes and polarization and thus radicalized Paris. While Bell argues that increased military modification and war caused fear and radicalization in France.
One example that the French Revolution was a success was the women of Versailles march to bring King Louis XIV and Queen Marie Antoinette back to Paris. This was a success because the women made an example of how powerful they can be. They did end up bringing them back to the palace to face the challenges that the country of Frances is facing. Another way the French Revolution was a success is the execution of Robespierre. This is a success because the French people realized that he was only looking out for himself, just like kings and queens were. The people of France realized when they were being taken advantage of and would not let it happen again. One last example that the French Revolution was a success was the Declaration of the Rights
229 years ago, was the start of The French Revolution. No historians have reached consensus to the exact reason for this major event in world history. Even though many of the issues that caused the revolution like rich getting richer and poor people getting poorer, I can barely imagine invading Buckingham Palace, beheading our Queen or breaking into a military facility full of weaponry.
The French Revolution was a time period that helped shape our present day society. It gave the people the rights that they wanted throughout the French Revolution, as well as a better constitutional government. The French Revolution was a success because of all the ideas that have been influenced from it. Although it may have not been successful in the beginning, it has benefited everyone till this day.
The French Revolution, an important event marked down in history and a time of new thinking and new ideas. This time period also known as the enlightenment period had people thinking in more logical ways instead of more religious standpoints. This caused thoughts of equality and in the end gave people liberty and freedom for a short period of time and also a changed taxation for the underclass, but that all came at a big costs. During the French Revolution there was the Reign of Terror ,the people did not establish a constitutional monarchy or a representative government, and had a lot of violence and chaos. This is why I disagree with the evaluation that the French Revolution was a success and that it was a complete failure even though there
