He never gave up when times were tough. They were trying to get Washington to surrender his small army, but he didn’t give up there. Instead, he formed a strategic plan to surprise the Hessians on Christmas when they were still sleeping the celebration off. There wasn’t a lot of time to make a plan in the first place because of the American troops’ enlistments ending at the end of the month. So Washington was quick thinking and strategic. Even when other people thought that the plan was foolish, Washington asserted his position as a general. Also, he cared about the troops. They were suffering from sickness, food shortages, clothing shortages, and the cold winter weather. Washington wrote a letter to Congress expressing his concerns and requesting funds for them. He takes chances, and this time, it payed off. His leadership skills from the years of experience definitely paved the way to

As the first president to guide, lead and protect what was very much a youthful, vulnerable, hopeful and energetic nation, George Washington will always hold a special and inalienable place in the minds and hearts of all Americans. However, other historians would assert that it was his achievements as an unflinching and courageous military leader was really equated to his most lasting and important contribution to American history: 'As the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army the services and achievements of George Washington are unique in the world's history. He was much more than the Commander in Chief. Washington's Farewell Address often embodies the "warnings from a parting
General George Washington was a brave man, a strong man, an honourable man. He was not the kind of man to quit on his troops, I knew he would get us what we needed. General Washington was the kind of man who would send letters to the Continental Congress every week to save us from this cold winter. Once he even succeeded in getting a committee from the Continental Congress to come and see our dire conditions for themselves. General Washington spoke for all of us telling the men of our lack of supplies, of our soot-covered lungs, and of our rumbling stomachs (Doc. C). If that is not enough General Washington once even told the Continental Congress "the soldiers eat every kind of horse fodder but hay,"(Doc. A). All these things and more show
If it weren't for Washington we wouldn't be America. Washington is the commander of the Continental Army during the revolution, and he is why we won that war. This may not seem like a big deal but it is. If the U.S. got into a war when Washington was president he would know what to do just like he did in the revolution.
Washington won the Mayoral Election with a 52% vote, but not everyone within the Democratic Party was satisfied with his victory, as “he would have to survive the Council War”. Alderman Tim Evans, a young African American leader, whom Washington had chosen to become first a floor leader and then elected to be the head of the Finance Committee. Alderman David Orr, a young leader of independents, rose to fame because he knew how to play the system once in. At the beginning of his administration, Washington established a set of recommendations from his “transition team” that would help him achieve his programs. First, it was the introduction of an executive order, first one in Chicago’s history, which provided citizens freedom of information; second, the Mayor suggested the elimination of patronage jobs through the “Shakman
