When we think of abstract artists, Western artists such as Pablo Picasso, known for his odd cubism works, or Georgia O'Keefe, known for her odd abstract works along with her normal paintings of wildlife, probably come into mind more easily. But is there anyone else known for his or her pure abstract artworks do you know? Do you even know who the pioneer of abstract work is? Then I think you should turn your attention to Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, who is not as known to us as the other famous artists, yet he contributed a lot to what became today's definition of abstract artwork. In many texts, he is defined as the pioneer of abstract artwork. Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky was born in Moscow, Russia on December 4, 1886. At the age …show more content…
From there, a young Wassily began to learn how to play both the piano and the cello at a young age. Eventually, he left Odessa in 1886 to study law and economics at Moscow University. He eventually gained a promising career as a lecturer of philosophy and law. He also married Anna Chimyakina, his cousin, during this time period. However, in 1896, ten years after he had began his study in law; Wassily visited a traveling art exhibition of French Impressionists, and left with a strong impression, which came from a series of paintings known as the Haystack series, painted by Claude Monet. Soon after this event, in the same year Wassily left his career in law and Russia to study at Ažbe-Schule, or Azbe School, located in Munich, Germany, and concluded his study there in 1899. Two years later in 1901, he, along with three fellow artists founded the Phalanx artist association, and he was elected president of the association. They opened the Phalanx school the next year, but it soon closed the following year, and the association dissolved finally in 1904. In 1911, his divorce with Anna was finalized after she had left him about seven years earlier. By then, another lady, Gabriela Munter was in his love life, but their relationship lasted
Wassily Kandinsky, born in Moscow in 1866 and died in France in 1944, was a Russian painter. He studied law and economics and only began painting studies at the age of 30. He started out in Abstract Expressionism, but later moved on to more modern movements. Kandinsky was one of the first abstract artists of his time. He wanted to include spirituality and human emotion in his work through abstract forms. His art included a large use of color and angular, geometric shapes. His work had many straight lines involved and not many curved ones. The scattering of the shapes and lines caused movement in his art. As a trained musician, he strived to show images and emotions in his

Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian-born artist, whose contributions to the world of modern art are innumerable. On an artistic level, Kandinsky's maturation process from representational art to abstract art is fascinating. From his earliest work, with an impressionistic flair, to his later work, which was pure abstraction, Kandinsky was an innovator and a genius. He bridged the gap between reality painting of earlier decades and the fantasy pastime of the twentieth century.
Wassily Kandinsky was born on December 4, 1866 in Moscow, to an affluent family. As a child, he received great exposure to the arts, learning how to play several instruments and inheriting an interest in drawing and painting from his parents. Kandinsky clearly possessed exceptional talent from a young age, as he could replicate paintings he had seen in museums– entirely from memory. He was also supposedly synesthetic, which means that he experienced sound whenever he saw colours, and vice versa. He once said that, in his childhood, he heard hissing sounds while mixing paints in his paintbox. This ability was further supported by his musical pursuits all through his life, as he described the cello that he played as “one of the deepest blues
In the world of art, abstract art is the most intriguing from a personal standpoint. I believe that abstract art is usually defined with lines, shapes, curves, and even layers and opacity. It is art that defies to represent the external reality in which we view on the daily. However, with abstraction, it seeks to achieve its effects using simple shapes, forms, colors, and textures. There are various forms of abstraction that were created and caused an art movement to change the view of art. Most were used to realistic artwork prior to abstract art. Many movements has caused and created the modern art and appreciation for the modern-day art. Stanton MacDonald-Wright is a well-known modern artist. His stable in artistry was Synchromism which was an early form of abstraction. The art was a color-based form of painting which received international attention and created the primary American avant-garde art movement. His artwork created a voice and movement for the modern day.
Abstract Expressionism united other artist like sculptors such as David Smith and Ibram Lassaw, as well as photographers like Aaron Siskind, but primarily the movement was one of painters. Breaking away from the accepted conventional forms in both technique and subject matter, Abstract expressionist produced monumental works that reflected their subconscious. The most significant influence on the Abstract Expressionists themes and concepts was Surrealism, a movement in which the Abstract expressionists translated into their new style that was fitted to the post-war mood of anxiety and trauma. The Surrealists opened up new potentials with their emphasis on accessing and harnessing the unconscious thought and
When I think of art I think of pretty pictures of landscapes and very famous works of art like the Mona Lisa and Starry Night. When I think of bad art I come up with random lines smashed together that the only thing that they resemble is my little brother’s crayon drawings. I would like to focus on two works of art, one is called Rattlesnake by Frederic Remington, and the other is Composition IV by Wassily Kandinsky. If you haven’t caught on I really like the bronze cowboy sculptures.

Prestigious artists in the modern era have created highly abstract and non-representational work. The average everyday person who looks at Kandinsky, Picasso, or Duchamp may genuinely believe that they can produce better work without any art experience. But from their lack of art history they will not be able to produce work that has deep meaning like Picasso, or psychoanalysis of color theory like Kandinsky.
Since the times of Rembrandt and before, art has been used to add beauty and provide delight for the eye of the viewer. In abstract art, however, this is not the case. The aesthetics of abstract art
Art before the twentieth century was used to visually tell a story or represent an idea, but it was not until the twentieth century that artist’s began to break down art into the purist basic elements. Abstract art is a movement that does not incorporate an underlying message and instead allows the artist to work with form, color, and shape in a way that applauds its simple beauty. Abstraction in art forbids reality to be seen and instead the medium is used to create an artwork that is essentially nothing from this world. In return, the viewer is forced to fight their way through the artwork to try to find a meaning that is just not present (Greenberg 37). This allows the viewer to step back and instead and be drawn in by the extravagance that can be created by the use of only the basic art elements. This form of art was unconventional in the beginning but developed with movements like Dada and abstract expressionism which have influenced the American artistry in today’s age.
Using the same principles that portrayed the "bustling" of a landscape, abstract artists can show movement, even movement that is not "real." An example of this is Umberto Boccioni's Unique Forms of Continuity in Space. This is a great example of abstract art. This bronze sculpture seems to gliding in space. Umberto, a futurist, projected his own beliefs and tried to capture the future that maybe one day we would be in space. (http://www.bc.edu/bc_org/avp/cas/fnart/art/20th/sculpture/boccioni02.jpg) The sculpture is almost recognizable as a figure, but Boccioni was more concerned with showing movement than man, so the form is distorted and stretched. This sense of movement adds another dimension to the meaning of abstract art, as an
Abstract art is defined as art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures.
“Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for colours, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential.” - Wassily Kandinsky.
