Even though the global economic crisis affected everyone, and every jurisdictions budget there needs to be a minimum level of funding for legal aid to protect the rights of those that cannot afford legal aid (Hainsworth, 2010). According to Hainsworth, (2010) the Canadian Bar Association has asked for national standards for legal aid, just like there are standards for health care and education. The CBA believes legal aid reform is needed to ensure access to justice for low income people, it also believes funding must be increased and national standards for eligibility and civil coverage are necessary to make the system function properly again.

Paralegals are employed in a wide variety of legal settings and play an ever-increasing role in the delivery of affordable and efficient legal services. However, regulation of paralegals has been non-existent or inconsistent, though the topic continues to be a significant issue. Across the country, paralegals advocate bar associations, state legislatures and courts to consider regulatory programs that go beyond merely defining the term "Paralegal." Federally required licensing of paralegals would benefit future growth and development of the career field and address the controversial issues surrounding it.

Nonprofit charities and foundations are essential in bringing people together for significant causes. One of the most notable aspects of being a strong, well-rounded citizen comes through giving back to communities. Through organizations such as soup kitchens, thrift stores, and hospitals, we can put food in hungry bellies and hope in hungry hearts. Nonprofit attorneys play significant roles in the success of many of these organizations. I am currently planning to pursue a career in law, which will aid me in assisting nonprofit charities that require support in navigating complicated laws and regulations. As a nonprofit attorney, I will guide private foundations in managing their assets and running programs that abide with regulation laws.
Medical-legal partnerships (“MLPs”) are collaborations between lawyers and medical professionals that provide an integrated approach to addressing the complex social and systemic issues impacting health, especially in vulnerable populations. MLPs have three core components (Lawton & Tyler, 2013; Sandel et al., 2010). The first component is legal advice and assistance, which is meant to address the legal needs of individual patients and positively impact individuals’ health. Legal professionals work as consultants and can provide legal representation for patients (Lawton & Tyler, 2013). The second component is improving health care systems and legal and health institutions (Lawton & Tyler, 2013; Sandel et al., 2010).
In a law firm, each attorney and paralegal, must first have a belief in equal treatment for all people regardless of their circumstances. In turn, at some point, we began working at this firm because we had a passion toward assisting in the implementation of the just application of the law. Likewise, we each became motivated to act toward affecting change in equitable treatment of all people. What I find important in our business is assisting those who are normally marginalized in our society and unable to obtain the legal help they need. I value altruism; the self-service or unselfishness that is within each of us. It combines the three elements briefly mentioned: Belief, passion, and motivation.
According to the ordinance defenders are not provided any incentives to willfully take free legal aid cases. This stalls the system of free legal aid to work effectively. So incentives need to be provided to the defenders to willfully take free legal aid cases. Moreover, when cases are being taken to provide free legal aid services, after a hearing or two, defenders lose interest in the cases. So for an even better system, incentives to also win the cases must be provided.
The government should increase the amount of funds allocated to the public defense systems. The reform will ensure the availability of public defenders and improve the overall working conditions thus improving the quality of client representation (Agan, Freedman & Owens, 1). Moreover, the reform will result into the reduction of work pressure, facilitating adequate engagement between the attorney and the client during the court process (Agan, Freedman & Owens, 1). Therefore, increasing the public defense system budget will ensure an efficient work flow system that leads to the enforcement of justice.
