Wes Anderson is an American film director and screenwriter, whose films are commonly known for their visual and distinctive narrative style. All of his films have been recognised for their extensive use of flat space camera moves, obsessively symmetrical compositions, recurring actors, snap-zooms, slow-motion walking shots, a deliberately limited color palette and hand-made art direction often utilizing miniatures. A tracking shot follows M.Gustave through the walls of the hotel to a suite which is where he plans to have lunch with Madame.D. - the unknown owner of the hotel - he then lets the servants enter and begins to order them around as to where they should place everything. A symmetrical shot is demonstrated in this scene when Madame.D. has left and Gustave is talking to Zero face to face and the way that they have been compositionally placed as they talk is very symmetrical as they are basically mirroring each other. Another tracking shot is used in this scene during Zero’s interview - the new lobby boy of the hotel - the camera is following them throughout the hotel whilst Gustave is asking Zero questions, as well as still doing his job as a highly successful concierge greeting guests. The purpose for using these shots in this scene specifically is to demonstrate the way that M.Gustave communicates with his guests and staff, as well as demonstrating the way that he is the best person to be concierge as he gets along with everyone. With Gustave having a personal relationship with nearly all of his guests as well as staff, which is shown during his lunch date with Madam.D, this demonstrates how seriously he takes his job. On each level of the system, there were things that went wrong and that could have been changed that could have prevented the failure of the housing market.
The Grand Budapest Hotel is the work of American director Wes Anderson. His works have a strong personal style: bright colour, the full symmetry of the composition, a straight frame, a deliberately orderly stance, unique visual style and narrative mode. In his film, a sense of humour is often through "Deadpan” expression: actors often deadpan and no body movements, but in the restraint and slight change, as well as in the pause between the odd cold humour. The hues, props and sets of his films are often colourful and whimsical. There are still plenty of these factors in The Grand Budapest Hotel, but many new elements are added.
The film, “the Power of One,” followed the life of a boy named P.K. from a small child to a handsome young man. It showed all the hardship and tragedy he had to endure throughout his life. Although the movie could have focused more on the apartheid, it instead portrayed the vulgarity of those times through the eyes of an English boy. As time went on, P.K. slowly began to realize the full severity of the apartheid. It was difficult for a child to comprehend how horribly people could treat one another for no apparent reason.

“Insidious” is a 2010 horror movie centralizing around the lives of protagonists Renai (Rose Byrne) and her husband Josh (Patrick Wilson). The movie mainly focuses on the supernatural activity going on within the house, and it is later revealed that the cause of the hauntings is due to demons attempting to take over the body of their unconscious son, Dalton (Ty Simpkins).
The vision Christopher Nolan had for The Prestige (2006) was to add to the outbreak of street magician film, whilst playing a large dramatic subplot equal in grandeur to the magical performances within the film. In the final sequence of the film, I will analyse how the cinematography and sound resolves the plot so that it summarises the themes present in the film, whilst also invoking a response from the audience. Nolan predominantly uses close up shots, non-diegetic sound (music) and dialogue collaboratively to convey the dramatic, personal subplot of the characters and their relationships, whilst appealing to the audience bringing forth an emotional response from the audience. The heavy, slow, dramatic atmosphere of the ending sequence uses various techniques to summarise and uncover the underlying mysteries of the events throughout the film and consolidate themes introduced during the exposition.
“Ordinary people” everywhere are faced day after day with the ever so common tragedy of losing a loved one. As we all know death is inevitable. We live with this harsh reality in the back of our mind’s eye. Only when we are shoved in the depths of despair can we truly understand the multitude of emotions brought forth. Although people may try to be empathetic, no one can truly grasp the rawness felt inside of a shattered heart until death has knocked at their door. We live in an environment where death is invisible and denied, yet we have become desensitized to it.
