Since MeadWestVaco completed their merger with Rock-Tenn, the new combined company is probably the closest competitor in terms of types of products (Geiger, 2015). This makes it a good company to compare websites to our own at www.internationalpaper.com. The new combined company known as WestRock still uses the web address of www.rocktenn.com but they also have www.WestRock.com and their website is full of colors and looks bright and fresh in contrast to International Paper’s website which uses more muted colors and looks a bit more dated in the design style. I will say that I think the older style of IPs website is more suited to the amount of information shown, where WestRock’s site takes advantage of colors and pictures to deemphasize the scarcity of text and detailed information. …show more content…

The website combines the global businesses under the product lines whereas IP’s website breaks the global operations out into separate businesses and then identifies the product lines in each geographic region. I think WestRock’s approach works very well due to the fact that the primarily operate in North America, Brazil and India (“Providing a business edge”, n.d.). Since International Paper has operations in 24 different countries, this might be a more difficult to do and IP’s design focuses on the business structure of product separation within each region (“Facility Locations”, n.d.). While I really liked the www.WestRock.com website in terms of colors, graphics, and pictures, I found it difficult to find specific detailed information such as their sustainability goals, ethics, or their Code of Conduct which are so important to the culture at International
