I am learning about Connecticut and Georgia and it is fun learning about this. Because you get to work in groups and learn about the 13 Colonies. And they are the original colonies. Connecticut was founded in 1636 by Thomas Hooker and is the 6th Colonie. Georgia was founded in 1732 by James Oglethorpe and is the 13 colony.
Thomas Hooker a puritan minister arrived in the colony in 1636 and delivered a powerful sermon. Hooker is responsible for founding Hartford, CT. Eventually the English drove Dutch out and gained control of ct. The colony received a charter from England in 1662. The colony of connecticut was originally established by dutch in the early 1630s.
The colony Georgia was started by general james edward oglethorpe in
The three regions of the original Thirteen Colonies maintained their own unique distinctions from one another despite the few similarities they held. These regions were the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies. On the factors of religion, politics, social structure, and economy, the very nature of the land, as well as the goals of the settlers determined what direction the regions took. The south took to slavery and farming cash crops while trade and manufacturing were staples of the other colonies. Wealth was the mission of those in the south while family and religious freedom were the desire of those in New England. Economies tended to frame how the politics of the region functioned as well as the family life as well.
In 1732, James Oglethorpe founded the 13th colony. Can you guess which state the colony became? That’s correct, he founded what we know today as Georgia! Georgia was originally founded to hold prisoners that didn’t have room in the prisons of Great Britain, where Oglethorpe came from. The
The thirteen colonies started in 1607, before this England tried to do a colony called Jamestown unfortunately it failed to become a colony. Later the king that had tried to start the Jamestown colony died, then in 1607 the new king and queen Elizabeth I decided to try again this time it worked the first colony was called Virginia and was named after Queen Elizabeth I. Virginia was not dominated by a specific religion they welcomed Baptists, Anglicans, and others. The thirteen colonies included Virginia, Delaware, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.
In 1607 a group of English settlers built village in Jamestown, Virginia. King Jaime I of England founded a colony in the first seven months after its arrival. Within these colonies we find the New England colonies and South Carolina colonies. We will analyze and compare the government systems, religious and economic development of both colonies and how they were related.
Connecticut is the best colony to live in. This is because it has many economical opportunities. It also has a lot of religious freedom for Puritans. As well as great economical opportunities and religious freedom for Puritans, Connecticut has the Fundamental Orders. The Fundamental Orders is a constitution for Connecticut, it explains our form of government.
The thirteen original English colonies are founded along the Atlantic coast of the Americas. Each group of colonies had its unique aspects in many areas, from architecture to economics, and various more characteristics. They all had a common goal, which was to govern themselves and have a say in how they were represented. They were divided into three groups. The New England colonies which consisted of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. The Middle colonies which included Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. The last group, the Southern colonies, which included Georgia, Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Each of the thirteen colonies had specific economic, social, and political developments.
The first colonies that were first established In America have many similarities as they have differences and how the people that previously inhibited it. Colonies like French, The Carolinas, New England, and The Pacific all have a characteristic that relates to our present-day.
The history of Hartford begins with Thomas Hooker’s arrival in Newtown (later renamed Cambridge) Massachusetts where he became a pastor of one of the earliest established churches there. However, voting in Massachusetts was limited to freemen or limited to people who had been formally interrogated on their religious views and experiences. Hooker disagreed with these limitations and their influential pastor, John Cotton. So, Thomas Hooker and Reverend Samuel Stone led a group of one hundred people in 1636 and founded the settlement of Hartford. Which then led to the founding of the Connecticut Colony and Hookers increased involvement in politics. On January 14, 1639 freemen from the three colonies that made up the Connecticut Colony sat down and ratified the “Fundamental Orders of Connecticut” which was called “the first written constitution known to history that created a government. It marked the beginnings of American democracy, of which Thomas Hooker deserves more than any other man to be called the father. The government of the United States today is in lineal descent more nearly related to that of Connecticut than to that of any of the other thirteen colonies” (John Fiske).
As early America was being established, three colony regions were produced. These were the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies, all of which had emigrants from Europe settle and create new towns and cities. Each colony had a different reason for being founded, although many reasons were similar. These and other differences created a unique and diverse combination of people, economic activities, and beliefs that formed the thirteen colonies.
The thirteen colonies had been established with different governments by each of their founders. A series of failed governments in England persuaded the Enlightenment thinkers on how their knowledge could benefit the world around them. This group of Enlightenment thinkers consisted of writers and thinkers from Europe and North America known as “philosophes”. They were a group who rejected traditional beliefs, who supported equality and did not believe in the supernatural or superstitions. These ideas from the group then circulated and found their way to the American colonies through the highly educated at first. Benjamin Franklin then took it upon himself and printed out these ideas on pamphlets and newspapers to promote them quickly to the
When people think about New Jersey in todays time they think of beautiful beaches, good diners, and its nickname the “garden state”. But what most people don’t know is its history. Some don’t even know it was one of the thirteen original colonies. New Jersey also has a few sports teams that people may recognize like the New Jersey Devils and the Atlantic City Cardsharks. New Jersey one of the thirteen original colonies, was founded in 1664 by Lord Berkley and Sir George Carteret because the king of France wanted to explore the unknown land in-between Newfoundland and Florida, the Dutch, Swedes, and the Finnish wanted to settle there because of trading, and because the British took over because they wanted to add it to their colonies.
The 13 colonies are in the middle of their war for independence. The fledgling Colonial army was continually losing battles to the superior British army and their Hessian mercenaries. The rag-tag band of fighters was entering the second winter of the war and many American troops were without shoes or sufficient clothing. The United States desperately needed help.
The study of American colonies is very interesting because it not only shows us a group of different people banding together to create a nation but also how they fended off another nation to become free. This is how our great nation became what it is today; freedom is all anybody ever wanted so they risked their lives and the lives of their family to make the dangerous journey. There were the original 13 colonies in American but what people forget about are the other Spanish holdings towards the West that played a huge role in the tensions that were created in the 17th century and 18th century. There were huge tensions between groups of people for various reasons and this can be found in several writings.
First there is the colony or Rhode Island, which was started by a man, named Roger Williams in (1636). It did not become an official colony until (1644) when it then
