As early as several years ago, roller skating become very popular and I used to dream of possessing my own pairs of Roller shoes. What attracted me was not only their cool appearances, but more importantly, was their flying speed. Blunt as me, I desire the shoes out of the following advantages: Firstly, roller skating is beneficial to children's comprehensive ability improvements, which include physical agility, powers of endurance, a good sense of balance and so forth. Through roller skating training, a considerable level of coordination between children's brains and bodies are likely to be achieved. Besides, based on scientific research, children involved in sports which require quick reactions and flexibility, such as roller skating, are liable to acquire more developments for their cerebellums. Their kin-esthetic intelligence, therefore, will be greatly improved as well and then many consequent problems caused by the less-developed intelligence are probably to be effectively avoided. Young beginners are inevitably to be confronted with setbacks and frustration during the process of learning to skate well. First of all, they are demanded to cease to weep and to stand up by their own; then, they are demanded to hold back tears over and over again and refrain from concentrating on their pains; finally, they are demanded to call up courage and persevere in repeatedly training, so as to get the hang of skills to handle their Roller shoes. Of course, due to a variety of levels of perception, it may not be too hard for some children to grasp key points of roller skating. Moreover, the road of learning won't never be paved with upsets or disappointments and it will also be lined with flowers and blossom. No matter how tough it is, children are bound to grow stronger and braver when learning to face failures and solving
In the article, Children Need to Play, Not Compete, the author Jessica Statsky asserts that highly organized competitive sports like Little League Baseball and Peewee Football, which are played to professional standard, are not appropriate for children. The author argues that competitive sports for children aged between six and thirteen, has negative effects in developing sports talent for the future and affects the children physically, mentally and morally. She explains how certain physical actions affect the child’s anatomy by citing Leonard Koppett’s claim that a twelve year old trying to throw a curve ball might put lot of strains on his muscles which could turn into a lifelong injury. She further insists that children playing competitive
This will impact on a child or young person’s intellectual development as they will be more alert and ready to learn, physical activity is also likely to encourage social and emotional development as schools will provide sports clubs and after school activities, giving children and young people the opportunity to socialise and progress in self-esteem.
In the beginning of the story, when the main character entered the Roller Rink, he/she did not know how to skate. The person was colliding with others, unaccustomed to stopping, landed on his knees and slid about his back. However, of the following many years later of practice, the person skated incessantly. The main character realized that the best thing to do was to keep skating, until the skill is fully developed. In page 171, it states “I soon realized that stopping virtually anywhere on the course was extremely dangerous, and that the safest thing to do was to keep moving at a steady, moderate rate, regardless of any irregularities which aroused my curious.” This shows that not only did the main character’s skating skills improved but became mature and responsible. In another word, showed coming of age. The protagonist also shows growth because as the story evolves the person has an ambition and is more aware of his surroundings. The author of this story does not provide the reader with background information about the protagonist. Therefore, what I can take from reading this story is that the main character does not have any major purpose in life. Just skating in circles for many countless years. One day, the person gets bored of it. Imagines a different type of world, where people can talk, laugh and actually enjoy themselves, when skating. In order to make new rules, the person takes a ten- year course to become the manger of the roller rink. During the grand opening of the newly improved roller rink, it said “Old women smiled at old men who grinned and nudged each other playfully; the atmosphere was high-spirited, contented and free.” Overall, the person takes charge of his/her own life. Realizes without a purpose, life is boring and
Whilst playing the children will begin to learn skills such as balance and coordination, throwing, catching, running skipping and jumping however none of these skills can be learnt if the child does not learn the movement skills. They need to learn hand-eye coordination this is when the brain will learn to make the hands and eyes work together resulting in the children being able to play catch, foot-eye coordination this starts when babies begin to learn to walk up the stairs but can then be extended when the child learns to kick a ball, balance this is learnt over time depending on the age of the child, when the child begins to learn these skills through physical activity their central nervous system will also begin to develop which will in turn help their muscles, glands and organs. This is applied into my practice by taking the children in to thee garden. When in the garden I make obstacle courses for the children with crates that range it heights and sizes, tyres and the slide. It can very day to day to teach the children different things. But by using the different height crates it allows the children to learn to balance by themselves, the slide allows the children to climb. We also have balls that the children play with but depending on the age of the child would depend on how it is used. If the child is 18 months or younger then I would
Physical development in children is an important area and is usually expected to happen automatically as they grow. The important areas are gross motor skills,
This program is the introduction of stickhandling, passing & shooting development, along with the continuing reinforcement of skating development.
Cutting bits of me that cannot handle the pressure and stress; developing pieces of the more disciplined me; testing my concentration; forcing my mentality to be flexible; enlarging the best of me: my determination, integrity, confidence, ingenuity, independence. Ultimately, skating leaves me more focused, more disciplined and more confident. It shapes my character, reminding me that success only feels worthwhile if it has a bit of blood behind it; skating tells me to try again, to keep working. Perseverance has been my grace. And as my skating career comes to a close, I have taken the time to teach those around me. The young skaters I teach think I am inspiring them, but they change who I am, altering me into a more caring, compassionate person.
Roller derby training was tough, mentally and physically. As I skated around the roller rink on the first day, for seemingly the 100th time, and I thought, “What the
It’s been debated that having kids participate in sports can be either a positive or negative factor in a child’s development. Is participating in sports a positive outcome in a youth’s development? Through my own personal experience and through the research that I have conducted I believe that participating in sports is a true benefit to a child’s development. Participating in sports can contribute to a healthy individual, developing problem-solving skills, social interaction, promotes following direction and rules, goal setting and creating plans, promotes self-esteem, reduces stress, helps academic success, and a higher quality of life.
Anyone who has been on ice knows that standing up on it is very difficult. However, Gia can spin in the air and make it look like it is an easy task. Every move she makes is flawless. Gia's dream is to make it to the Olympics one day. Her hard work and effort is going to pay off one day. She
As you go through life there are many things that shape you as a person, many things that you learn and grow from. I have experienced all of these from one thing, hockey. I started skating when I was about 4 years old, persuaded into the sport by my dad, who came from a big hockey family. I was so young I do not remember my first reaction to it or if I even liked it, but there must have been a reason that I stuck with it. Hockey has caused me much stress and tribulation but every second of pain is worth the reward.
We could fly everywhere, we wouldn’t have to walk anywhere. I could fly to school, and not have to ride the bus. These shoes would be great for handicapped people. You even get to customize your own shoes. But for example, you would have to wait till the shoes are fully charged to use them.
Even though you might not have a skating rink in your small town or city, U.S. Figure Skating, which happens to be one of the largest overseeing committees in the Olympic movement has worked hard to put in place as many skating programs across the U.S. for the recreational and the professional skater. With over 170,000 members, in more than 680 various clubs and more than 950 registered basic skills programs. The Basic Skills program was created in 1968 with the goal of teaching skaters the correct basic skills of skating, to have fun and be safe and to promote physical fitness. Since 1968 the Basic Skills program has taught over 2 million people to skate. Just in the year 2013-2014 Basic Skills had welcomed 57 new skating schools. The U.S. skaters have won 53 World Titles and have won 187 World Championship metals, which is more than any other
Physical activity has not only physical benefits. It also has a very big impact on social-emotional and cognitive aspects of child’s live. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “The development of a physically active lifestyle is a goal for all children. Traditional team and competitive sports may promote healthy activity for selected youth. Individual sports, noncompetitive sports, lifetime sports, and recreational activities expand the opportunity for activity to everyone. The opportunity to be active on a regular basis, as well as the enjoyment and competence gained from activity, may increase the chances that a physically active lifestyle will be adopted.”
I remember the feeling that I felt when I first stepped onto the track that summer evening. This tournament was something different then any other event I had been apart of in my previous years. There were over 10 junior teams alone and I was so honored to be one of those lucky 10 teams. The crowd was packed with friends, family, and derby fans of all ages. The tournament took place at a hockey stadium and as soon as I skated out onto the polished concrete I expected to feel like a ferocious hockey player. Although I expected to feel like a strong and scary hockey player, I instead felt like a terrified beginner skater who had no idea how to control their feet. Being scared is a complete understatement to how completely terrified I felt. Not only did I practically forget how to roller skate all together, but I was so in shock and nervous that I could barley even remember what sport I was supposed to play. I stood at the edge of the track watching the junior Angel City team from L.A. warm up. Angel City’s junior roller derby team is definitely called “Angels” for a reason. All of these girls are gorgeous, talented, and fantastic athletes, all of which I could tell simply by standing there frozen on
