To me personally I feel like to be an American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. We might not all be perfect in the way of having everything we want , but it is one of the only countries to have rights given to people of different raises and gender. America does not have does not have a very good amount of poverty. But instead we have our own personal choices given to us by the people who fought and passed away for our freedom that we have today. Being an american means to go beyond yourself to create your own legacy, and to not give up until you achieve your goal.
In his essay, "A Cause Greater Than Self", Senator John McCain writes about patriotism being "a love of country expressed in good citizenship.” He contends that "Patriotism is countless acts of love, kindness and courage that have no witness or heraldry and are especially commendable because they are unrecorded". In other words, he claims that patriotism is an act that is committed without the need of praise. A patriot abides to the country's laws and engages in acts of kindness without acting to one's interest. Before reading the essay, I thought a patriot was typically someone in the military or a government official, someone who willing sacrifice themselves to protect their country. The dictionary defines patriotism as love for
What does it mean to be an American? Being an American means a multitude of different things. It depends on who the person is and what is the most important to them. It may be that they are free, or that they are proud, or simply because they appreciate the country’s history. This country has so many privileges that other countries do not have, and this sets it aside from them.
Patriotism is commonly thought as the love for one’s country. In my opinion, however, there is something more passionate underneath that powerful word. I believe that patriotism is an unbreakable bond between the people, and it is the will of those who had fought because of it.
From my point of view, the true meaning of being an American can be viewed in many ways but the best way I can relate to this topic is by representing being an American like patriotism and loyalty. The true meaning of being an American for me is by showing the support to my country by doing my little part to make society work, for an example when I vote I consider it as being my own patriotic way of considering myself as an American. The other way that I think that I am being helpful for my country is by making my pride show off my patriotism and nationality by demonstrating from my point of view what I consider what being an American is truly about and by showing what being a true citizen is when it comes down to showing loyalty. Being an American is all about showing your patriotism, loyalty, as well as your pride for your nation.
To be an American it meant that “You are free, you can say the pledge of allegiance, vote for your president, proud to live in the United States.” Or at least that is the general definition found on google on the website Scholastic.com. However being an American does not ,mean anything in specific. “American” is interpreted in many ways, there is no solid meaning, only various opinions. Many will respond to you that to be an American is to be free, in realization is it really?
People have been supporting, and fighting, their countries since they were made. Patriotism represents an undying love for your country and all that it stands for, the willingness to fight and die for it in hopes it shall flourish, but this love can be abused for man's own gain.
One of the greatest advantages of being an American is the freedom to achieve your goals whenever your heart desires. My ultimate goal is to receive my bachelor’s degree before I start a family. From the moment we are born, we are given: a name, a nationality, and most importantly being identified as a citizen of that country. In this source analysis, the ideas of patriotism as a reflection will be analyzed via film and quote. Patriotism by definition is an emotional attachment to a nation which an individual recognizes as their homeland. This feeling of patriotism can lead members of the nation to fight for the rights of their nation, and that these citizens will do anything they can to achieve their desired goal. This idea of patriotism is displayed throughout Roland Emmerich’s movie, “The Patriot” and a quote from Barack Obama on what rights and freedoms are to every US citizen.
Patriotism can be seen as many different ways, loyalty, honesty, love, everybody has their own understanding of patriotism and how they define it. To me patriotism is standing up for what one believes no matter what, and never losing hope in what you believe. In the essay written by McCain, his friend Mike stayed faithful to America and even after being beat he sewed another flag. Mike did not give up on his country, that is patriotism to me. Staying loyal, and never giving up no matter the circumstances or what others may think about what you believe in. People do not only have to show patriotism to their countries but to other things as well. Patriotism comes from one's own will to show they are not afraid to fight for what they believe
A patriot is someone who will support and defend their country at all cost whatsoever with full allegiance and commitment. Only a true patriot would lay his or her life down for their country without any second thoughts. One may ask what the word patriotism truly means to a patriot and the answer is everything. Although war is often viewed as a harsh and cruel thing, to a patriot it is the most important thing in the world because it means defending a country that they love and honor. If an enemy enters into a country and had the audacity to try to destroy it or take it over a patriot will be one
First of all, the actual definition of American patriotism is the pride and devotion to one’s homeland. As everything does, there are pros and cons to being a patriot. For example, a pro would be that it leads us to feel proud of and for our county. That
As Jesse Ventura the former governor of Minnesota would say, "Patriotism is voluntary. It is a feeling of loyalty and allegiance that is the result of knowledge and belief. A patriot shows their patriotism through their actions by their choice." That being said, what should patriotism mean to us, and what should we do to be patriotic? Patriotism means to respect your founding fathers and constrain the ideas they put forth to us which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Therefore all people of the United States of American should respect, honor, and show devotion towards patriotism by encouraging others to do what's right, requiring people to devote their time to what's important, and asking people to righteously spend their time honoring our country.
