Patriotism, and All its Angles. People have been supporting, and fighting, their countries since they were made. Patriotism represents an undying love for your country and all that it stands for, the willingness to fight and die for it in hopes it shall flourish, but this love can be abused for man's own gain. During the holocaust young men were rounded up to fight in Hitler’s war. He villainized the Jewish race saying Germany's economy was depleting because of them and that they were ruining the Germans quality of life. Brainwashed at such a young age that the Jewish race and anyone who supported them were the enemy, these men had an almost zombie sort of patriotism to their country. This sort of patriotism lead by a leader with less than good(
These individuals signing up for the military knew they were needed to save the people persecuted by the Nazi army, and if they didn't, they would soon see a whole culture wiped out before their eyes. This caused patriotism between the men and their families back home. A love for their country so strong they would defend it through blood and war, in the hopes to save their families, and protect others as well. They stood for their own and fought for what was right. Young boys like Johnny in, “The Children of Willesden Lane” who joined in the war to help save his friends and family were surrounded with patriotism of their families. That their country was strong enough to win this
Adolf Hitler is one of history’s most terrifying leader. As a child, Adolf has been raised by Germans. He has been brainwashed, thinking that all Jews were bad. Although, Hitler is the one blamed for all the killing, he shouldn’t be taking all the blame. The German people should be also be blamed. The Germans were the ones teaching racist statements to each other. It is absurd that not one of the people stood up against Adolf Hitler. Instead, the people cheered him on as the “hero” to his people. This led Hitler to think that what he was doing was right, so people began brainwashing each other about Jews being bad.
Mark Twain once commentend that a patriot was, “the person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about.”, implying that the majority of patriots do not know why they are patriotic. Americans are taught from birth to love the United States of America; if an American does not absolutely love America, then they must despise it, an act certainly shameful. Most Americans find themselves devoted before ever asking if the U.S. deserves devotion. Philosopher Carol Nicholson writes in her article, .Why I Am Not A Patriot, “Fixing love on an abstraction such as ‘country’ leads to...a recipe for intolerance, hate, and war.”. Devotion to a country is not wrong-a country could not grow unless its citizens had a degree of pride for it-the danger comes when people stop asking why, and not only stop questioning, but also believe their country is
P - patriotic; Patriotism is a quality that shows one's love for his or her country. By being patriotic, a person is being loyal to their country. It shows that they support and care for the things others have fought to give them. I display my patriotism by something as little as saluting the flag to say the Pledge of Allegiance daily.
American Patriotism can be defined in different ways. When people think of the word patriotism, most often say "to love one 's country". That is true in some aspect, but being patriotic means much more than that. In the words of Mark Twain, he states, “Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” True patriotism is to support what 's best for this country and contribute in ways to help that can be beneficial for everyone. However, to a socialist, patriotism can be viewed within three main perspectives: the functionalist, conflict, and symbolic interactionist perspective.
HUmanity is full of patriotism, you and your ancestors are one of them, and so are persons around you. Patriots are people who will proceed to do almost anything for their country, patriotism is something I'd say is something that runs through each and every one of humanity. Sucj as all of the people on the force of fighting back to other native
Of the films that addressed this subject, the majority seemed to advocate that young men volunteered for the War out of how of duty and loyalty to their nice country. One
Two of the most tragic and remembered events in our world’s history were the Holocaust in 1933, the Civil War and Slavery in the United States starting in 1619. Both are known today as possibly some of the worst times in US, and worldwide history. As well known as this is, the Holocaust was the “systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of over six million Jews.” The Nazi’s came into power in Germany in January of 1933, and had a strong belief that Germans were “pure” and “superior” and the Jews were “unclean” or “inferior”. Hitler’s main goal was racial purity, and the greater expansion of his network. Hitler would go far beyond the boundaries of humanity to ensure racial purity came into play. Slavery wasn’t unheard of before it came to America, in fact, it was quite common in many other parts of the world. What may have started out as just forced labor for the upper classes turned into an enormous growing economy for the colonies, and eventually Southern states. Slaves were treated solely on their masters choice, which could range from mild, to cruel and inhumane. Both of these situations/events came to forever change humanity, and bring about the realization that many
Tragic events strike the world in many different forms; from simple shootings to ethnic genocides. Although theses acts of hatred sound widespread and diverse in the cause; it is the indifference and ruthlessness that an individual portrays. This sort of behavior accommodates society and encourages people to accept and follow its routine and principles, such as the events that took place during the Holocaust. During the time period of 1933 to 1945, Adolf Hitler, an Austrian World War I veteran, decided to partake in twisted behavior. Hitler believed that in order to do his nation justice, the nation needed an ethnic cleansing. This ethnic cleansing involved choosing to degrade and torture the lives of millions of people and most of these people were Jews. However, not only did he kill and demean a certain group of people, he also encouraged others to follow behind him in his hatred. During the Holocaust people treated the Jews as if they were inferior human beings, or rather, animals as they were thrown in concentration camps under strict supervision and ripped from the arms of their loved ones (History). This horrific event, still today, does not seem to elude the memories and the thoughts of many Jews or those of anyone else whom were affected by this event. The events of the Holocaust changed the modern world’s perspective on human rights by demonstrating how cruel, remorseless, and apathetic humans can be.
It is 1943 and the axis powers of Nazi Germany, Italy, and Japan have become triumphant in the the second World War against all odds from the allied armies; through unrestricted power the Nazis spread their racist views across the world killing millions of innocent lives on the belief of saving the rest. Individuality and freedom of decision would sink into the void of darkness and lost dreams as strict mandates would restrict any sort of free thinking from the people's’ minds. This is what life would have been like if the world had fallen to the radical and racist ideologies at its most dangerous stage. The Nazis were a group of radical extremists who believed anyone that was not what they believed the ideal human was was a disgrace and threat to mankind. Adolf Hitler, the Nazi leader, attempted to destroy all cultures and ethnicities that did not meet his “German” standards, and he stopped at nothing
In the early 1900’s, one man was able to rile up and take command of an entire nation by utilizing the stress put on the people from previous conflicts, the natural psychology of humanity to create a “reprehensible” other figure, and historical antisemitism. Mankind must never forget the effects of this man’s ideals, actions, and followers. Humanity must never forget the rights he violated for the sake of his goal. This man was Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazi party in Germany during WWII.
The Jewish Holocaust is an example of this hate brought about by nationalism. Hitler's belief that Aryans were superior to other races led to Jewish people becoming a scapegoat for all problems. Hitler did not see Jews as people, dehumanizing and demonizing them. Hitler wrote, “...the personification of the devil as the symbol of all evil assumes the living shape of the Jew.” (Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf). Hitler desired to make Germany a great nation after the first World War and in order to do so, he saw the removal of Jews as completely necessary. Six million Jewish lives were lost due to Hitler’s actions drove by the force of nationalism. Germany’s ultra-nationalistic beliefs justified the bloodshed of millions of innocent people. Nationalism causes nations to prioritize their own people and country to the point of hating other races. Despicable racism arises from feelings of nationalistic superiority. Although a certain amount of patriotism and pride of a nation is healthy and important, it can turn into nationalistic racism. Charles de Gaulle states the dangers of this concept saying, “Patriotism is when love of your own people comes first; nationalism, when hate for people other than your own comes first.” (Charles de Gaulle) As nationalistic feelings in people grow, evil
Others simply totally reject patriotism. History has shown us that patriotism can easily bring extreme behaviors: people start war in the name of patriotism. Patriotism is thus often linked to nationalism and militarism: a military is often seen as a patriot par excellence. So is patriotism really a virtue, does it bring about good things to humanity? For George Kateb and Leo Tolstoy the answer is no. They consider that patriotism goes together with hatred of other countries and therefore brings about hostility and international tensions. Besides, Tolstoy argues that patriotism is stupid because it
Patriotism can be depicted as an influencing kind with respect to commitment to one's country. Patriotism puts the side leisure activities of one's country course over the unwinding activity of others (Ferguson, 2000). Patriotism started winning in the twentieth century in each and every European Country and was one of the key drivers of World War I. Most individual European countries all had trust in
Unknowingly, leaders of war do not realise the mental destruction they cause on many bystanders. In the end, many people are left hurt and scarred as they suffered from a situation at which they may never recover from, as portrayed through the Holocaust. Many German Jews played victim to Hitler’s weakness. In order to receive full power, Hitler decided to wipe out the entire German Jewish race not knowing of the effect it would have on those people.
Anti-patriotism is another form of showing to be an ideal global citizen. Promoting and what is heard often, “my country this, my county that” is not in favor of global citizens. One must be open to all forms of people and their cultures. A global citizen is one that can travel to any country and adjust to the customs or at least be open to them.
