What are the causes and effects of procrastination and if there is a solution for it, what is it?
Most people in the world have a problem with procrastination. Since procrastination can become a big problem when it comes to having to meet deadlines for example, I wondered whether procrastination is something that could be overcome, or whether it is something that one would just have to live with.
To procrastinate, according to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, is to delay something that you should do, usually because you do not want to do it.

The article “Learn about procrastination”, by John M. Grohol, who has a doctorate in psychology, expands on some main causes of procrastination, such as perfectionism, fear and disorganization. According to the author, John M. Grohol, “irrational thinking” or “thinking in an illogical fashion” also causes procrastination. By thinking one still has time left, while one has to hand something in the next day, one procrastinates, as well as when one waits “to be in the right mood” to do something (Grohol, 2005).
Perfectionism can cause someone to procrastinate, as it causes one to want to do something perfect. By becoming unsure that one will not be able to do the task perfect, one could cause procrastination. Perfectionism creates a chain of events which, according to Grohol, starts at “[setting] unreachable goals” (Grohol, 2005). One must also not wait until one believes one is in the right mood, as if the mood will affect one’s “results”. Grohol states that one “must constantly challenge [one’s] cognitive distortions”, by telling oneself that the task has to be done now, no time can be wasted and that one is able to do the task. In other words, by having a positive attitude towards the task already prevents some procrastination. By planning correctly (keeping due dates), one can become more organized, which will help one, if necessary, to break up bigger tasks.
