About 18% of asian american students reported being bullied or judged for their race and ethnic background. This is because many people judge asians by stereotypes. Its not only asians that get judged, but every ethnic group gets bullied or judged as well.

First of all, what are stereotypes? A stereotype is a quality assigned to groups of people related to their race, nationality, and sexual orientation, but there is not only one type of stereotype there are actually two types of stereotypes. There are positive and negative ones. For example, a positive stereotype about asians would be that they are smart and polite. A negative one would be something like asians have small eyes or they’re short. Some people may get offended by these and other people will not care about it at all. Not all asians are smart, so when people say they all are. The asians that may not feel so smart will feel like they have to be “up to standards” or they feel like they have to be someone that they are not because people expect them to be. Lastly, these stereotypes have been around for awhile and they are still around for one reason and one reason only. Stereotypes have truth in them. For example, statistically 50.5% asians all have a bachelor’s degree or higher.This means that not all asians are smart, but a large portion of them are smart, so in conclusion, stereotypes can be good and bad.
