To someone I loved,
There was a point in time when I was hurt. It was emotional so there weren't any physical marks for evidence. I had been hurt by the words and actions of those close to me. There was a quote I saw that said, "The saddest part about betrayal is that is always comes from the ones you believe were loyal." That quote lived true for me. Betrayal comes around but only from the ones you thought were loyal. It's hard for me to trust anyone, but the pain should wear off in the night. By morning, I'll forget there was ever pain in the first place.
I had been hurt before but this time around, the pain was different. It came with a sense of endangerment. I had a feeling something bad would happen as the pain diminished each day. So

Metaphorically speaking, of course. My guard was put down, and I was hit. The cannonball struck me in the area where many before me had been hurt: my heart. Now I was in disbelief because I couldn't trust my instincts for an extended period of time. Who was this cannonball? Well, it was someone who I thought was close to me, someone who I thought wouldn't crush my heart the way it was shattered. That person was you.
You didn't directly hurt me though. This time it was a matter of games I played in my head. At that time, I couldn't admit I has fallen in love with you. I was putting an unnecessary weight on my shoulders. Luckily, that weight didn't kill me. That weight weakened me for sure, but I wasn't dead yet. Theoretically speaking, I could've openly admitted to loving you and the weight could've been removed.
Instead, I chose to take the more difficult path. That path sent me to sleep every night with a pounding in my head. Every bang was another denial. I couldn't fall in love. I absolutely couldn't fall in love. Trying to persuade myself, I continued to say it over and over again. You betrayed me. Although it was indirect, you still hurt me because I never imagined you for being the cause of the hammering in my head. You broke my heart without intentionally doing. You broke my heart without even knowing
Patricia Bray uses several different writing techniques to convey a mood of suspense in the story The First Betrayal. She uses diction or other word choices in order to create the mood. She also uses imagery to see inside of the story. Lastly, Bray uses appropriate details to help create the mood. By using these techniques she creates that darkening mood.
I woke up in a cold sweat. Don’t do this to yourself again, I told myself. He’s gone. He doesn’t want you, he chose her. I still remember the day you told me you loved someone else. I can still feel my face fall and hear my heart break. I wanted to hate you, but I wanted to hate her even more. But I couldn’t make myself hate either of you, especially not the person who once brought me so much happiness.
Authors often use their works as a way to express their own opinions and ideologies. However, it is the skill of the author that determines whether these ideas are combined with the plot seamlessly, making a creative transition of ideas from the author’s mind, to the reader’s. There is no doubt that George Orwell is a masterful writer, and one of his most popular works, 1984, clearly expresses his negative views of the Totalitarian government. A common theme in the dystopian society in 1984 is betrayal: The Party is very intolerant towards any form of disloyalty, and anyone who plots against them or Big Brother will eventually either betray their own mind and accept Big Brother as their leader, or be betrayed and revealed to The Party by
Not only does the novel use the Party’s intolerance of betrayal to its ideologies as a method to facilitate the feeling of alienation and loneliness, but also that of the individual characters’ betrayal of one another. There are several examples of this throughout the novel. Some of these examples are when Charrington betrays Winston and Julia, when Parsons is betrayed by his children, when Winston and Julia betray one another, and when Winston finally betrays himself. George Orwell used these examples to demonstrate how the party was able to sever any type of loyalties between people and even one’s self. This betrayal only perpetuates the fear of relationships causing people to welcome isolation.
I don’t understand the urge to hurt someone physically, mentally, or emotionally despite frequent occurrences and can only hope that I never put someone in a position that would cause such grief and pain.
“I’ll help,” “Do you need anything?” and “Let me help you,” are all examples of loyalty. We are here to help each other out. What exactly is loyalty though? What is not loyalty? What are some examples of loyalty? These are all things we all need to learn.
During World War II and the Holocaust, there was not only mistrust for the government but there was also plenty of mistrust for prior friends and neighbors. In the graphic novel, “Maus (Volume I and II) Vladek Spiegelman makes it very clear to his son, Artie, that one cannot count on their friends. He makes the point that in time of hardship, friends will abandon you quite quickly. Vladek says, “Friends? Your friends…if you lock them together in a room with no food for a week…then you could see what it is, friends! (Maus, VI. 5-6). Throughout the novel, we see examples of this gloomy point proven repeatedly.
In the play Othello, Shakespeare creates a tragic plot with the use of betrayal through the actions of the most villainous character of the play, Iago. Iago’s betrayal of his commander, his friend and his own wife sprang from his jealousy of being overlooked for a promotion. Betrayal is the overall catalyst to the buildup of the tragic ending to this play, where the majority of characters die due to Iago’s intricate plan of betrayal to all who were close to him.
Loyalty, does it still exist today? I am of the opinion that it does; after all, our loyalty to God, family and country is what we stand for. Although, loyalty can be described by many other words, such as, faithfulness, commitment, obligation, devotion and allegiance. Therefore, the true meaning of loyalty may be left up the individual.
Looking back at the history of the United States, there are many instances and issues concerning race and ethnicity that shape the social classes that make up the United States today. There are many stories concerning the American Indian that are filled with betrayal, but there is probably none more cruel and shameful as the removal of the Cherokee Indians in 1838. Blood thirsty for money and property, the white settlers would soon use dirty methods to drive the Cherokee out of their home- lands. The United States government played a critical role in the removal of the Cherokee. “Soon the state governments insisted on the removal of the native peoples, who were already out numbered by the white settlers and
Unfaithfulness can cause a heart to break. It’s sad to think even those you trust the most can also hurt you the most.
As readers, we get the benefit to explore our favorite characters and explore their trials and tribulations. “Hamlet” by Shakespeare explores the theme of betrayal, which takes an interesting toll on Hamlet and causes him to go “mad”. Shakespeare expresses Hamlet thoughts through his soliloquies to give a better understanding of what he is going through. Hamlet’s struggles are shown through his anger, confliction, and his determination.
Have you ever had physical pain,or such pain that you were going mad with hurt?
In Things Fall Apart, Umuofia is representative of Africa. Achebe writes the novel in the tumultuous time of postcolonial Africa. Western literature at this time has not been friendly towards the African nations. European arrogance and unfamiliar African mythologies and religions create stereotypical ideas about the Sub-Saharan cultures and lifestyles. Joseph Conrad’s Heart of darkness specifically aids in the Western mindset about Africa. Conrad’s aim, although perhaps not primarily meant to degrade Africa, nevertheless paints a picture of African citizens and cultures in a light that Achebe could not accept . In a conscious effort to counter the influence of novels like Heart of Darkness, Achebe decides to write Things Fall Apart as an attempt
Shakespeare's Hamlet is filled with murder, revenge, and betrayal. The way the characters go about their revengeful murder says a lot about them. Claudius is a manipulating coward: he poisoned his own brother in his sleep in order to obtain the throne. Hamlet is completely indecisive: he spends majority of the play debating whether not to kill Claudius, when he would do it, and how he would do it. As soon as Laertes hears of his father’s death, he leaves Paris and marches an angry mob into the castle to demand blood. The methods in which the protagonist, antagonist, and foil murder others reflects back on their true in our character.
