What Does It Mean To Be Humble

Often times, many forget to be kind to one another. When we are performing out our daily activities we forget to think about other people. Individuals can be naturally selfish or self- centered. There are multiple obstacles working against our being kind to one another. Our own success being one of them. We must remember to put ourselves in the shoes of the other person, in order to understand the issues in front of us. It is not easy to become detached ourselves from how we usually are nor how we are born, but it is imperative that we try to ensure a brighter future.

It simply means that how to be “a good man” in the society. According to the article, one of the characteristic is that humble people usually have a high level of self-esteem. They have confidence in themselves, and they feel positive of what they are. Moreover, the article also states that we decide humility not by humble behavior but by how people treat each other. “Good behavior flows naturally from that kind of humility”, this phrase from article efficiently describes good humble people. We usually learn from people who have more experience than us, such as parents, teacher, or bosses. One the other hand, when you start to work, you begin to have an ego knowing that you know more than other people, which is incorrect. Humble people will always learn from others even though they are smarter than others. This provides them opportunity to learn unlimited. When we do something, it may have an effect of others. Actions can be more powerful than words, and what that means is that our body expressions can be overruling than us using any words. Right actions can lead to so many good things. For example helping the needy by taking them food, or giving a pair of socks to a homeless person is an action that can teach us to be humble.

When I look up a word in the dictionary, many times, I find that there is more than one meaning to it. The definition depends on the way the word is being used, however, when a person defines a value, the definition might change according to lived experiences. If I were to ask people what “humility” means to them, some might match my definition and others might have different perspectives. I have personally met people that see humility as a downgrade. In contrast, humility to me means growth, equality, and a virtue that it is acquired through wisdom and not one that you are born with.

If you would like to live a happy and more so, successful life, it is vital that you learn to express gratitude wherever you go. In order to reach where you would like to be in life, everyone should concentrate on their goals and objectives. Through expressing gratitude, people can learn to show good deeds, and hence be able to receive the same goodness, in return. (Radwan, Msc.) Gratitude refers to the act of being thankful, noticing simple pleasures, counting every little blessing, and acknowledging every good done unto you. In other terms, it can be described as living life as if everything happening in it is a miracle, and being able to continuously acknowledge every much you receive. On the other hand, when people decide to concentrate a lot of energy on bad things in life, it will make them remain in the state of conflict. But by developing gratitude, it will allow someone to focus on positivity and the good things in life. It must be understood that this will allow an individual to always remain optimistic, and with enthusiasm much success can be achieved.

The article I chose to read was called "Calling Yourself ‘Humbled’ Doesn’t Sound as Humble as It Used To," written by Carina Chocano. Chocano started the article discussing how Abraham Lincoln used the word humble in one of his political announcements. Lincoln using this term in one of his announcement is what helped set the standard in certain political persona. Not only is the word humble being used by politicians, but as well as athletes, celebrities, and other public figures.
