What Does it Take to Be Successful?

Something you hear almost everyone say is, “I want to be successful”. However, what does this exactly mean? How would they even begin to assess if they were successful in life? The fact of the matter is that success isn’t easily definable or measurable since it varies from person to person. If someone is asked why they want to be successful, there’s truly no right or wrong answer. Despite the individual nature of defining success, there are some recurring interpretations in our society.

I remember stepping through the door into the robotics room, I didn't know what I was getting into and what impact it would have on my life. Robotics became my life for the next 4 years, constantly spending every moment of my free time investing it in robotics. I found my passion; to learn, with a desire to make the team better by passing my knowledge down to them. Robotics taught me countless valuable lessons and skills that shaped my life. After recently completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, even though this week has been very hectic with acclimating myself to the electronic learning environment, I am afraid this is just the lull before the storm. Discussion board postings, research papers, presentations, developing WIKI pages, and if I read correctly even learning how to blog are important learning expects that are of this program that are waiting just over the horizon. Organization will be a key factor in staying on task each week. I like several others, still hold fast to my trusty three ring binders where I keep the items I deem most important readily at hand for frequent review. My one item that I cannot manage to convert entirely to an electronic format is my calendar; I prefer to have a paper print-out in the front of each class binder where I can list each assignment on the day it is due. I have my own color-coding system to keep on track. Then I check each item off as it is completed, I have a quick visual confirmation, as well as a sense of accomplishment with just a quick glance when I see tasks marked off.

Albert Schweitzer once stated, “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful”. If you ask different people what success is to them, you would most likely get a variety of definitions. Some might say that success has commenced when one has finally gotten that $200,000 dream car in one’s garage. Others might say that their belief of success has established when one has found true happiness in life. Someone could be extremely wealthy, but at the same time, extremely destroyed and confused inside. Would you still consider this success? Success can be interpreted in several different ways. However, true success should not only be based upon wealth and materialistic goods, but rather on bliss and contentment.

The people who succeed are those who set realistic and specific goals. If I set my mind to something that I want to accomplish. I will get it done. Three goals that I want to achieve are get good grades on finals, become an engineer, and work for a good company.

Someone told me if I am successful, I will be proud in myself. I was success in the education before when I was a little boy. I could remember that moment I was crying and run to my mom’s arms and said “ mom, I can do it ” in that time it was just a little start for a success. You have to make your little challenge first. When you did your goal you will proud in your self. It will be a good start for you, it is a very little step for now but it will be a huge step in the future. Different people have a different definition of success. It is not just measured by our physical success and achievement, but also how we feel emotionally about the people surrounding us and the relationships we are in. after attaining success in these fields, try and estimate how you are going to spend your time, money and energy. Are there people to share your success? Succeeding is a personal concept and if you are a candidate for it, you must take the first step towards it today. Write down your definition of success on a piece of paper, and you will feel successful intently.

Success is sometimes a long and winding journey. Many times you need to overcome the barriers that block you and naysayers who doubt you. Sometimes you need to fight though your own self-doubts to achieve success in your life.

A large block of life is spent working to become successful: acquiring an education, being able to take care of family, achieving a life’s ambition, or making money. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow up and make lots of money. This book is over 75 years old and it’s still just as relevant as it has ever been and can inspire anyone from 15 years old to 105. It deals with how to communicate with others and how people need to be able to look at another person’s point of view. The book is written from a perspective of someone in a position of power whether that is a manager or simply a supervisor, however don’t let that scare you away because it can be useful to anyone and I mean anyone who takes the time to read it. The book isn’t like a normal book; it is divided into four parts. They are as followed: Fundamental Techniques in Handing people, six ways to make people like you, how to win people to your way of thinking, and Be a leader: How to change people without giving offense or arousing resentment. The book stresses that people should take the time to see things from the point of view of others and take the time to think of ways to resolve different conflict through more acceptable ways. The main idea of this book is to teach the skills that are necessary to use. The points in this book are there to better a person’s life and many situations they will face. This book will truly change people’s lives.

The current generation needs to pay close attention to our mother Earth and new ways of becoming environmentally sustainable without taking away from the future generation. Sustainability means that things can keep going, means the planet can keep doing what it’s supposed to do like provide air, food and life. Although, becoming sustainable is a great deal of work, dedication, and knowledge, if we all work together doing our part then it won’t be a far fetch ideal. What we decide now to help improve our environment plays a great deal on the amount of raw materials we have left over for the future to come. Having a healthy ecosystem and environment are necessary to the survival of Earth. We should try to reduce the negative human impacts by using less harmful chemicals, use resource management, and to reduce our destruction of nature caused by humans. It’s too late to reverse the damage we created on Earth; therefore, we should take the stand now to start improving the quality of our life to insure us a bright future and generations to come.
