When Ender gets to Battle School he is already disliked for being so young and small. Graff calls him out in front of everyone multiple times. The other kids do not like that at all and they pick on Ender for it. He likes to get under Enders skin because he is just pushing him. Ender gets fed up with Graffs games when he finds out he tricked him about the final battle. “Why you gotta be so rude? Don't you know I'm human too” are lyrics from a quirky song about a girl that annoys a boy, like Graff seems to do to Ender. On page 35 Ender says to Graff “You made them hate me.” “So? What will you do about it?” responds Graff. Knowing what he just did annoyed Ender.
He found Ender and helped him become the commander to save humanity from the bugger invasion. Colonel Graff should not be held responsible for the death of Bonzo Madrid or what happened to other students at Battle School. What Colonel Graff did, worked as planned. “Ender Wiggin must believe that no matter what happens, no adult will ever, ever step in to help him in any way. He must believe, to the core of his soul, that he can only do what he and other children work out for themselves. If he does not believe that, then he will never reach the peak of his abilities’” (p. 201). The students were prepared for the big battle and Ender was able to lead them to victory. Additionally, Ender volunteered for Battle School, though he knew it would not be easy. Graff explained to Ender in the beginning that it would be difficult and painful at times, but Ender agreed to leave Earth and go anyway. “‘I don’t want to go,’ said Ender, ‘but I will’” (p. 26). Ender made a sacrifice for the planet Earth to be saved. Like any soldier who goes to battle, he suffered physically and psychologically and will continue to feel that pain for the years to come. But he will endure it because he knows that what he did was done for the greater good. Colonel Graff is not guilty of brutality toward
After Ender’s important battle, they tell him that all of it was real and that he had actually defeated the buggers. Ender thinks to himself, “Real. Not a game. Ender’s mind was too tired to cope with it all. They weren’t just points of light in the air, they were real ships that he had fought with and real ships he had destroyed. And a real world that he had blasted into oblivion. He walked through the crowd, dodging their congratulations, ignoring their hands, their words, their rejoicing” (Card 297). When Ender realizes that they have been lying to him and using him as a weapon, he becomes angry. Ender yells at Graff and Mazer, “‘ I didn’t want to kill them all. I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer! You didn’t want me, you bastards, you wanted Peter, but you made me do it, you tricked me into it!’” (Card 297). If Ender would have known that he would have killed people and creatures, he would not have gone to battle school in the first place. Death is very hard on Ender and he does not know how he can live with such a burden. Ender’s change in character is due to him being a victim of
139). In the beginning no one cared about little Ender Wiggin. Ender had no friends and he also had zero respect. Now right as Ender is getting more friends, everyone is giving him so much respect. He has improved so rapidly and people are almost scared of him, which leads to Ender getting all of this new respect. He feels like there is a wall between him and his friends, because now he has to relate to them on a whole new level. At first he could talk with them and be a kid around them, and now it is like people expect him to act and be more mature . Another quote that proves my point is “Ender Wiggin crying?” (Card. 151). He can not do things without people finding out, and they put him on such a high pedestal that Ender can not do certain things without getting
Firstly, once Ender arrives at the Battle school, at the age of only six years old, he initially faces many difficulties with assimilating into his launch group, along with the other children, "The other boys talked and joked and bragged and laughed. Ender kept his silence. He toyed with the idea of trying to be like the other boys. But he couldn't think of any jokes, and none of theirs seemed funny. Wherever their laughter came from, Ender couldn't find such a place in himself."
When Ender finds out that he killed a whole race he is angry and says “’I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer!”’(297).Throughout his journey Ender thinks that he is a replica of Peter. This is one of the many instances where Ender feels his whole persona is being manipulated into a copy of Peter by leaders at Battle School. Once Ender recognizes that most of his choices have been influenced by commanders such as Colonel Graff he decides to make a decision of his own by finding the buggers a new home.
Colonel Graff. “your practice sessions with half-assed little launchies are over, Wiggin”(Card 100). Within the whole novel of ender's game colonel Graff always has to be riding Enders tail. Colonel Graff only ever picked on ender because he knew he was special, and that he was better than all of the other kids. Although Colonel Graff liked Ender he still gave him a hard time. He was trying to make Ender the best Person that he could be. “I'm not going to quit my freetime practice sessions”(Card 101). Everyone always tried to manipulate Ender by taking his stuff when he still wants it. Ender didn't want to be this way. Ender wanted to be a normal kid, but instead he's a genius who is also a third. Colonel graff manipulates Ender by trying to take away his practice time but Ender doesn't let
Ender often gets bullied by Bernard and his little group. He always finds ways to get back at him, though. Ender meets older kids while watching them play the battle games. He ends up beating one of the older kids and he makes him mad. That was a bad move for Ender, because now he has older kids that dislike him.
Chapter 3: There is a knock at the door while Ender and his family are eating dinner, it is a commander of the International Fleet and want Ender to go to battle school. Ender got his Monitor taken off but Colonel Graff had his final test to see how he reacted without the monitor. Ender’s reason for continually hurting Stilson was to make sure that Stilson did not hurt him again and Colonel graph approves and convinces Ender to go to Battle School.
Although what Graff did was cruel, it was a smart move on his part. Having so much authority in Battle School he gets to do what he wants. He had a goal, and he had the tool to achieve it. Unfortunately it was at the cost of Ender’s trust. Being in his shoes and needing to save the world from the buggers he made the right call. He got do do what he wanted like the lyrics “now I do what i want.” Graff says “the buggers? That was the idea.” after Ender says he killed “them” on page 297.
Graff set Ender up to be isolated and disliked by the group of boys by telling them that Ender is better and smarter than they are, making them feel stupid. “He’s going to be commander when you’re still in diapers up there.” (Card, page 32) Graff had purposely caused a boy to repeatedly hit Ender, who responded by grabbing ahold of the boy’s arm and flipping him over his seat. The boy broke his
Graff tricked Ender into coming to the Battle School in the first place by saying his family didn't love him, although they did. Ender loved his family, for the most part, and they loved him even though he was different, and Ender knew that until Graff told him differently. ‘You won't miss your mother and father, not much, not for long. And they won't miss you long,
Adults are the enemy according to a well-known book titled Ender’s Game. Much of Ender’s Game has the children revolved around everything. The adults manipulate and control all the children to fight a third invasion with the buggers. However, Ender Wiggens, protagonist of the story, is quite not like the other children his age. Six year old Ender beats up a school bully for harassing him, causing the I.F Commander, Colonel Graff, come to Enders home to ask him questions about his violent actions. Ender says he does this so he could stop all future attacks. This catches Graff’s attention immediately and sends Ender off to battle school. Ender does very well in battle that he gets sent off to Command School where he will learn how to
After a few years of harsh “school” life, he eventually committed the ultimate genocide and saved humanity. Now you may be asking, “How did he manage to save the whole world in only a few years?”. The answer to that is simple. The thorough, meticulous use of manipulations were able to push Ender far beyond his limits. And so, we will be taking a look at Ender’s manipulations he learned throughout his school life, the IF’s greedy and risky manipulations, and Colonel Graff’s smart yet cruel
So far what I have read is Ender Wiggins was being bullyed by this kid named Stillson he then got tired of it so he beat Stillson and kept kicking him even when he was down in order to will all future battles. Colonial Graff then arrives at his house to ask him to come to battle school because he thinks he can be the best. Ender agrees, he then travels to battle school. He meets this kid named Alai who is a very nice kid they become friends. Ender does a whole bunch of training and he does night training with his friend Alai and some other kids. He is then reported to join salamander army which is led by Bonzo Madrid. He then meets Bonzo, Bonzo tell him he is going to be traded immediately. Ender meets this girl named Petra who offers to show
It is why he pushes Ender to the boy’s limits. I agree with General Graff’s approach because just as in the Vietnam War, Americans were free until the government needed them to fight for our country. With this action, Graff takes on the limits of human freedom because humans aren’t free, ever, because the species force individuals to do something. Early in the book, Ender pushes somewhat against this idea. Graff explains to Ender the
