Upon entering this class, I thought I had a pretty clear understanding of the medical field. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to pursue medicine. I thought for sure I wanted to go through medical and become a doctor of some sort. I was interested in physical therapy or even just a pediatrician. I was really excited to join this class because I still wanted to get an insight on other professions in the medical field. From taking this class, I hoped to have all my questions answered about my future. I hoped to come to the realization of what I wanted to do with my life. With that being said, I feel that this class has exceeded my expectations. This class has helped me understand the many aspects of each health professional that came in to present. I have learned that many professions require exams for the state you wish to practice in, such as dentistry. Many professions also require more schooling than others. Such as a nurse compared to a physical therapist. A nurse may require four to six years of school, while a physical therapist requires six to eight years of schooling. I also learned that in many occupations there is room to change or advance in the field. Such as, for a nurse, one can become a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or just a nurse that specializes in a specific field. While it might be harder for a doctor to switch professions, they have many different titles, such as physician’s assistant, physician, or pediatrician.
The medical field is a career path that brings about many options and opportunities of great value. The noble idea of being a doctor tends to cloud the diligent studying and precise training that is actually required for this career. I have wanted to become a doctor since a very young age, and now that the opportunity is here for the taking, I have fully researched what it takes to succeed in this profession and various specialties of the practice. The road to a medical degree is one filled with thousands of notes, years of schooling, and many stressful nights, but the reward is one incomparable to any other. Saving people’s lives on a day-to-day basis has been one of my dreams for as long as I can remember, so the rigorous curriculum
Nice to meet you ! Congrats on making it to your final semester at ASU , that is so exciting . You and I have similar career goals . I plan on going to graduate school to become an athletic trainer. So we both care a common interest in sports medicine. This class will really be beneficial to us and help us with our future career goals . Best of luck in graduate school !
I believe I have become more cynical over the years of being in health care and going through this course has not helped that very much. I often think to myself “Why am I in a customer service oriented job?” The entitlement people expect is mind blowing. However, I also think that my perception of health care is growing positively because of the different class and subjects that have been touched on throughout this course. I have a better understanding of the process it takes to get a law passed in our government, how to outcomes, and how to design a facility floor plan. Health care is changing quickly with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the amount of patients with the ability to get medical care. The amount of providers was not increased to help handle to large increase in patients. Patients are struggling to make appointments in a timely fashion because of the increased volume of calls on the call centers or front office staff. Patients are waiting longer periods of time to get an appointment because of the increased volume of patients. Doctors have the ability to not be enrolled as a provider in health care plans and that limits the availability of doctors that are able to treat patients on Medicare and Medicaid.
The constantly changing medical profession causes many administrators of all types of provider levels and facilities great heartaches and headaches for multiple reason. Administrators over the Emergency Medical Services of a specific community is by no means immune to those same heartaches and headaches. These heartaches and headaches are often due to the rapidly changing of standards of care, testing procedures, finances and expectations of insurance providers to make appropriate financial restitution for services rendered by in the field of EMS and the in hospital setting itself.
I am very glad I took Ms. Finley’s class. I feel like I had a very strong connection with her and her class. I know I will be ok to continue in the medical field. I learned a lot in this class. I am very eager to learn more, and learn as much as I have to, to continue in this direction. I now know, leaving this class, I will have no regrets in farthing my education in the medical field, thank you Ms.
In this program, I hope to gain more insight and experience into the medical field and what will eventually be expected of me. Through this program, I plan on learning about different types of medicine and the different ways doctors approach situations. I also hope to learn about the different reasons the mentors/doctors went into medicine. This program will impact my future plans and goals by allowing me to learn about different subjects and gain experience in the medical field.
It’s pretty hard to write a summary of the class when you skipped a lot, and I know I have and ill own up to it. I feel like this class had a lot of information at the front half of the class that is very important for every student to know, the information about the library and how to write an annotative bib. I found those extremely helpful because I never knew how to search for professional articles and find them so easy. Other than that I honestly felt like the class didn’t really pertain to me, myself being an odd ball and looking at a career outside of my major and outside really any ESAT career type. Even if I were staying as a Physical Educator, this class is built around the ESAT major and there is nothing wrong with it but I find
You probably know how the medical field has changed throughout time but do you actually know who helped create that change? I was the first open women to receive a medical degree in the United States. Before I received my medical degree only men were physicians. Men believed women couldn’t handle seeing the body, and working to fix it. When I graduated medical school, I changed that. I may have grown up in a poor, humble family and worked as a low-level teacher, but my determination to receive my medical degree inspired many women to reach out of their comfort zone, and changed the medical field forever: I am Elizabeth Blackwell.
I decided to go into college Undecided Pre-Med with aspirations to one day become an orthopedic surgeon. I took a heavy course load: Biology, Biology lab, Chemistry, and Chemistry lab (along with general education classes) each semester I was there. Along this journey, I began to realize that the Pre-Med pathway really wasn’t my passion. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to work more intimately with my patients and develop relationships with them. This realization along with my unhappiness at the university really reflected in my performance in
I have always felt like I had a type of obligation to be in the healthcare field. Coming from a family of all health care workers and taking all science classes, I have only seen one path. However, I am now realizing that it is not the only one life has to offer. From being in medical pathways and taking challenging sciences all throughout high school, I have realized that my passion was not in the subject, but in the work I do for it. In all these classes it requires full attention and the ability to sit and take intricate notes, making hundreds of flashcards, and being able to present a difficult topic in front of thirty people. This is what I enjoyed. I enjoyed the tedious work, the organizing of papers and the preparation. I didn't mind the binders full of handouts or lab books because instead of it being stressful, I found it quite
I feel my style of practice continues to expand from the knowledge I've gained from this, and my other courses as well as from the many hours I have spent at the hospital with my field instructor. In addition, I am definitely more self-confident and informed in my approach when interacting with the patients and staff at the hospital. One downside, is that there is not enough time in the day, because, I have once again fallen behind on some school work, so I'm trying to employ some new time management techniques that will allow me to go to work, spend time at my practicum site and complete my assignments with fidelity. With all that said I thought this course was a very eye-opening experience and I am excited as well as looking forward to actually
I have to admit that choosing Anatomy over AP Biology was the best decision I’ve ever made in my senior year of high school. Being a part of Mrs. Lentsch’s class definitely made my high school experience even more enjoyable. I love that I learn interesting facts and new things about the human body every time Mrs. Lentsch does her daily lectures and powerpoints. Most importantly, taking Anatomy certainly heightened my interest in pursuing a profession that’s within the medical field. Furthermore, there are several activities that I’ve done in class that are extremely memorable for me.
After going through the lecture and asking questions to the professor we went upstairs for the second portion of Future Doctors. We were separated into two groups, one group will learn how to take blood pressure; the other group will dissect a cow heart. Dissecting a cow heart was alright. Holding a human heart is way cooler; I take medical anatomy and physiology at GTI, and they have a cadaver lab there with real human beings. After finishing the dissection and learning how to take blood pressure Future Doctors ended. I stayed an hour after it ended talking to a medical student about medical school; what it was like; her favorite classes; and many
The reason that I choose this course is because I am interested in pursuing a medical career. In addition, I feel this class will be engaging to me and would be the beginning in uncovering what the medical fields all entails.
The career of medicine is a very diverse field of profession. The health care system is built on a team of, researchers, healthcare industry, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
