Isaac Daniels woke up to a loud bang. He jerked awake and looked around, taking in his surroundings. The room was pitch black, save the moonlight leaking in through the windows of the large cabin. However, something was definitely different than when he had fallen asleep. When he had fallen asleep, the lights were indeed off, but the room felt hot and muggy compared to the relatively cool environment he was in before he fell asleep. Isaac always had the thermostat cranked down wherever he went. Growing up in the south where it was always hot, led him to the deep appreciation for keeping the inside temperature cold. He got up and felt his way to the wall where his hand brushed against the light switch. He flipped the switch up and down …show more content…
If ever there was a point in his life that he had felt like a total moron, it was now. The raccoon, realizing it’s cover had been blown, retreated through the hole and back out into the darkness. Isaac walked towards the hole in the screen mesh and wondered if the owners of the campground were going to try to charge him for this, he figured that they probably would. He turned and walked back into the house, turning the light off on the porch and walking back towards the chair he had fallen asleep in. He could feel the cold air re-entering the room now that the power was back on, and his heart was beginning to slow to it’s usual rhythm. As he sat back on the leather recliner, he reached for his phone that was resting on the table next to him. He felt another surge of embarrassment make it’s way through him as he realized if he had picked his phone up he could have used it for light instead of bumping around through the dark like an idiot. He clicked the power button and the phone came to life. No text messages, no missed phone calls, and no notifications from any of his social media. Then again, that was the point of this cabin, he considered to himself. It had been three weeks since Rebecca had broken things off and kicked him out of the house. Since that day, he had felt a hole inside of himself. A deep, dark, and empty hole. He had decided to himself that he had
Dissolved oxygen is oxygen that is trapped in a fluid, such as water. Since many living organism requires oxygen to survive, it is a necessary component of water systems such as streams, lakes and rivers in order to support aquatic life. The dissolved oxygen is measured in units of parts per million (ppm). Examine the data in Table 4 showing the amount of dissolved oxygen present and the number of fish observed in the body of water the sample was taken from; finally, answer the questions below.
Bonnie Green, Chief Estimator, agreed that in a normal year only slight delays might develop due to a shortage of labor. However, she pointed out that for such a large project, the company would have to use unionized employees and that the construction industry labor agreements with New York City were to expire on October 30, 2004. Past experience and current construction activity in the surrounding area indicated that any union tradesman would support a strike against the city. Since this is a public project, she estimates that there is a 50% chance that they would strike this project to gain the attention of the national media.
The word ain’t is one of the most commonly-overlooked mistake in the English dictionary. It is used very often in TV, books, movies, media, and music, so we shouldn’t be surprised it is now in our real life. Even though our English teachers and grammar textbooks label the word ain’t as incorrect the use of the word has not been banished and we have no idea if it ever will be. Since, it continues to be in our language, and we often us it we should be informed of its origin and its development. However, there are different opinions on the development. Most writers on this issue seems to agree that the word ain’t has not been fully investigated and needs further research. A look at the history of ain’t can help determine how this simple contraction became a serious error in professional writing and speech.
In the dead of night, Zach was wide awake. It was in the middle of June in Statesboro, Georgia. The house was humid and hot. Was the air conditioning even on? Zach got up to check the thermostat. His parents had long been to sleep. He walked down the hallway, the floor squeaking as he tried to quietly go past his sister Lauren's room. When Zach came to the thermostat, he realized that it was 98 degrees in the house. He couldn't believe that no one else in the house had been awaken by the heat. Zach didn't want to wake his parents or his sister, so he so soundlessly wandered back to his room. He closed the door to his room and returned to his bed. His sheets were a bit cool, even if he had only been away them for a short few minutes.
The definition of home is “the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household.” The movie definition of home is “home is where the heart is.” The definition of home to me is where you feel the most safe, comfortable, and where your heart is filled with the most love. Additionally, home to me means being able to wear sweats all day, cuddle up to someone you love, watch a movie and enjoying the lazy, none hectic work or schools days. Not to mention, home is a place where after traveling around and seeing everything there was to see and still thinking the place you grew up was a better place to travel too. Furthermore, I believe home changes just like people evolve. An example of that would be at first your
At the local level, it is evident that South Sudan is a country with a significant number of its populations suffering from communicable lower respiratory infections as previously indicated (see appendix 5). On a global scale, many countries also have to deal with the problem of lower respiratory infections. Even first class economies such as Canada have to deal with the problem of lower respiratory infections. Just like South Sudan, infants, especially from the country’s low socioeconomic and disadvantaged First Nations seem to be highly affected in the Canadian context also (Banerji et al, 2016). The frequency of admission seem to fluctuate (see table3)
9/29 It all started when the Jensens put their pumpkins out on their front porch. They decided to do it a whole month early, they put them out in September. The Jensens just moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and are never outside. The Jensens have two kids, a boy in my sixth grade class, and a girl in the tenth grade. The boy in my grade is named James Mason Jensen, and his older sister is Jessie Morgan Jensen. I hope they are not as weird as the last people who lived in their house- the Cullenders.
Feminism, it's all about being equal, right? How come we are still not equal as men. This is fighting for everyone and not just women. Since we are all contributing for women to have equal rights, that means that others should get the same thing. Men and women can work the same hours, but still the men get more money than women. If you’re the opposite sex then it shouldn’t matter what you want to do, you can be a boy and want to do makeup because it makes them happy. When you stereotype people and put them in categories just because of a decision they made it shouldn't define them. For this, women and feminist will be fighting for the equal rights of all. They want to have the same rights as men because they think it's wrong for them to get more when we all contribute to something they do.
Transfer students don’t become academics. I sat in the middle of the Honor’s Scholarship Ceremony and listened as a colleague of mine presented his research on transfer students in the university system. He demonstrated that academia tends to believe that transfers are not able to conduct original research. The situation felt particularly ironic. Afterall, I was a community college transfer who was being awarded a $5,000 research scholarship that very night. I had been attending UCLA for eight months but I still remembered how desperate I initially felt when I arrived. During my first two weeks, I went to the history writing center and asked a graduate student to review my research proposal and was promptly told “You aren’t going to be
She changed into a big t-shirt and crawled under her covers in hopes to find some amount of warmth and comfort. But there was none. She had gotten too used to spending the nights with Jay, and the warmth he provided whenever they were snuggled close. She laid still for a while, her mind fixated on early tonight. Hanks voice replayed in her head. “Get back in your car Erin.” Erin couldn’t help but think how things could have been different. How Hank didn’t have to do this.

I woke up and just layed in bed thinking do I really have to get up. I got up quietly because it is six in the morning and I have my dog Marley sleeping in my room. If I woke her up she will get very mad. I look for my shorts in the dark room. I grab my shorts and find my jersey. I grab my keep up long socks and get dressed. As I go out my bedroom door I grab my shoes.
Sawyer began to stir from a good night’s sleep, which is rare due to her stress accumulated from her job. She instinctively reached to other side of the bed expecting to feel the warmth of human flesh. Opening her eyes only to confirm the vacant spot she sighed. She flipped to the other side to look at the alarm clock the resided on her nightstand, 7:52 it read, contemplating rather to try to go back to sleep or to get up. Choosing the latter, she sat up rolling her neck, stretching her stiff limbs and began to make her way to the bathroom. Her eyes meet the mirror, studying her reflection.
