Own A Place of My
Imagine you are driving down the road through the country, and you turn off to the right onto a dirt road. You follow the dirt road through a wooded area, and you see a light at the other end, similar to being in a tunnel. When you arrive at the end of the woods, the dirt road comes out into an open field. As you look around the property, there is a large two-story house, beautiful built, with a wooden swing on the porch. You look up and behind this house is the base of a mountain. You cannot see the top for being in the car. You stop the car and look around and wonder whose property this is… This is my dream home. The house is a two-story house, made of brick with vinyl siding on the front. It has a large front porch, and a nicely made wooden swing. The front door is a broad door made of wood. The columns on the porch are decorated with stone around the bases. There are lovely flower planters, hanging from the overhang on the porch. In the middle of the porch are two outside chairs with and iron table in between them. Inside the front door, it comes into a foyer. Straight off the

On the second floor there are five bedroom. The master bedroom is roomy, with vaulted ceilings and a fireplace. The television hangs over the fireplace. The color of the room is a pear, green color. The master bath is enormous, it has his and her sinks and closets; the closets have built in organizers. There is a tiled walk in shower with no door. It is behind a wall that you walk into, similar to a cave. The toilet room is separate, and the jetted tub is beside the toilet room. The tub has ceramic tile around it, and ceramic steps so you can get in the tub. Leaving the master bedroom, there are four other bedrooms; individual rooms for the children, a play room, and a study. The second full bath is in between the children’s
I feel a light tap on my shoulder as my brother, Andrew, pulls me out of my gaze. I look around, noticing the cars not in motion anymore. "We're here," Dad says, turning the car off. Shoving my phone into my pocket with the headphones wrapped sloppily around it, I focus on the house in front of us. I have only seen pictures of it on the housing website dad purchased it from. It doesn't look much different; it's still small with two stories and ugly green shutters to match the tan siding. The only thing I like about it is the small bushes lining the front. Mom used to spend hours shaping the ones at
Family is defined differently for everyone. Family members can live down the street or in another country. Some people have close knit families while others do not. Similarly, home is also defined differently for everyone. Some people might believe that home is just the house they live in, and with each move comes a new home. Others, however, believe that home is where their family is. People use family as a way to define home in slightly different ways. For example, in her essay “On Going Home,” Joan Didion writes about wanting to give her daughter “home” for her birthday. Didion describes her home as being where her family is. In his essay, “Coming Home Again,” Chang-Rae Lee uses his mother as a way of defining his home. In the third
Before you make an entrance into my room you first need to walk up three flights of stairs it may look easy, but don’t be fooled. "Click" as you turn the key to the right. Afterwards apply pressure to the handle downwards, then push to open. When entered in my apartment a cool breeze of cold air instantly hits your body and the smell of Hawaiian breeze scent from glade lingers in the room. Then a small tile in front of the door is where I take off my shoes. As you continue to walk forward your toes feel the rug of my room which is twelve by sixteen square feet a lot of my thinking and time is spend here alone or with friends and family, but it is certainly my favorite room in my apartment. This room matters to me because it is the first room you see before you see the other rooms. It also shows a little part of me as you look around the room from the dreams I wish to travel one day to the time I took to coordination the colors together and the hard work I put to manage to save enough money to get the furniture and decorations this room is once again my favorite room.
The fourth floor is the children's floor and it has four bedrooms and a play stage. This is where the children slept and where they would host plays. The rooms are lined with beautiful hardwood floors, white walls, and they have windows in each room looking into the other room. There is even a little door that the kids used to hide in. Each room had a fireplace in them for the cold
Moving away from the place that one calls home is a hard situation, especially for a child at a young age. I lived in Brookhaven, Mississippi, and I was in the eighth grade. I had been in Brookhaven School District majority of my childhood. I had plenty of friends, and I was involved in school clubs. It was two weeks before the beginning of my freshman year when I got the news. My mom called me in her room and explained why I had to transfer schools. My sister has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, and she felt that it was best that we try a smaller school. I called up my friends to tell them the news, and we decided that these last few nights were going to be the best. We went out to bowl, had sleep overs, and had a special trip to the waterpark. I felt so happy to get that time with them, but moving day came and ruined all of the fun. That morning we packed up the house, said our goodbyes to our neighbors, and drove away. Though as I rode in the car towards a new beginning, I felt like I left behind the whole world behind me.
The dining room has a table that seats six, and a tall cabinet containing dried and canned foods. The kitchen has a refrigerator, a dishwasher, microwave, and lots of counter, and cabinet space. Out of the kitchen is the main hallway which is tiled. Leading up the stairs to a full size bathroom and two bedrooms on the right on the left is the master bedroom and bath. The hallway bathroom is decorated in soft beige and red colors with simple wall hangings. The bedroom on the left is the bedroom of CED, the 5 year old daughter, and the bedroom on the right is the bedroom of LRD, the 3 year old son. Back down the stairs is the lower level. When you first go downstairs you see and big open family room that has a couch and two lazy boy recliners. The downstairs is all carpeted. To the immediate right is a second full bathroom and next to that is the master bedroom. Opposite the master bedroom is the fourth bedroom which was converted to a toy room for the children. The downstairs is where the family spends most of their time. There is a big screen television and there is a game station connected to the television. BAD has taken the time to child proof their home using child safety locks on all cabinets, and electrical outlet covers. The children have a lot of toys, and it seems they do not have a lot of storage, yet their home is kept very tidy.
The west façade of the house will be facing the Botanical gardens to be able to enjoy the view. Another addition to the house will be a swimming pool. The pool will keep with the theme of being connected to the outdoors and to be able to cool down on those hot summer Oklahoma days. The pool will be constructed on the northern side of the house. There will be a door added to the north side of the house to access the pool. The doors that are going to be added will be tall sliding glass doors to give the feeling of being outdoor while you are actually indoors. The last addition to the house will be a breakfast nook on the opposite side of the tall sliding glass doors, since the crossing of the transept is the dining room. The breakfast nook will be an additional seating area and it will be kind of secluded from the rest of the house for when you need a little

The word ‘home’ is something that is often misunderstood. Home makes up your identity and not many people know that. Therefore you ask me, ‘what is home?’ Home is not just in your house. Home is a place that surrounds you. It’s you environment and cause for emotions. Your home is where you are with the people that surround you (peers, family, and strangers), as well as cars, houses, stores, and/or toys.
What is home? If one looks in a dictionary the answer would come out to be, “The place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household.” However, for anyone who has had an actual home, they would know that such a term goes much beyond its concrete description. It is an impassioned aspect filled with values and foundation of nurturing. A home is not just an abode built to live in; in fact, that is just a definition of a house. Home is a place where one not only feels comfortable, but a place they look forward to opportunely live in every day. A home is built not by bricks or wood, but with the bond of family. A home is a place that reminds a person of countless memories and values when he walks through a
