“The average person takes 23,040 breaths in a day”, with every breath she takes she could be making her dream come true. I think the American dream is real because of all the opportunities and support you have in America. The American dream to me is having a family with a supportive job. It’s being happy with what you build from the ground up. Many people worked days and nights for what they have now. Not everyone has opportunities like Americans. When someone becomes a United States citizen they get benefits that they wouldn’t get in other countries. Martin Espada worked at a printing plant which manufactured legal pads. He worked after high school hours every day until 9pm. “ 10 years later in law school I knew every legal pad was glued with the sting of hidden cuts, that every open law book was a pair of hands up turned and burning.” Martin Espada became a lawyer, he made his American dream come true with hard work and dedication. Abraham Lincoln once said “you can be anything you want to be if you want it bad enough, do anything you set out to accomplish, if you hold on to the desire with singleness of purpose.” In America you have the right to be who you want and do what you want within the laws that are set to protect you. One factor would be the cost of the American dream. It’s pretty expensive when you have to pay for a house to live in, not to mention if you are in college. Many of the expenses of the American dream are transportation and normal needs for living. Another factor would be racial discrimination. A lot of people are not treated like the rest of the white population. Some restaurants’ would let people of a different race other than white eat at their restaurant because they thought it was wrong or disgusting.
