The video “Revolution” documented America’s victory over England in the Revolutionary War. It shows why the war happened and how the Americans managed to gain victory against England. The colonists, or rather, the Patriots, won due to one major factor: the George Washington effect. The first battle between the Red coats and the Patriots ends with the defeat of the Patriots in New York. George Washington then retreats to the depths of the American jungle where sharpshooters led by Daniel Morgan, where they perform guerrilla warfare on the British soldiers. They started by making the travelling conditions of the British through the forest as hard as possible, slowing them down by chopping trees to block their paths. When the battle starts, they took out the British’s Native American scouts, thus gaining the terrain advantage since they knew the forest better than the Red coats. They also broke the rules of 18th Century Warfare by killing the commanding officer. Besides that, they were equipped with American long rifles, an upgrade to the German hunting rifle where it has a firing range twice that of a British musket (Revolution). After their first victory over the Red coats, France decided to ally themselves with the Americans. This is an act of …show more content…
Due to lack of funds, George Washington managed to lead his troops to survive the harsh conditions of the Valley Forge winter. Afterwards, they experienced their second obstacle: small pox. Small pox is a European disease, and since the colonists have been isolated from this illness for nearly two centuries (chapter 3, slides), they did not have the immune system to overcome it. George Washington took a gamble and decided to expose the healthy soldiers with the small pox virus, modern day known as vaccination. His gamble paid off, losing only 1 in 50 soldiers to small pox rather than losing a few thousands
The French's entry into the war meant that the power of the British Navy was challenged. The French-American alliance began poorly with the admittedly unsuccessful operations in Rhode Island in 1778 and Savannah in Georgia in 1779. One reason for the problems was that the priorities of the French and the Americans were not identical. France hoped to conquer the British areas in the Caribbean before they would help the Americans to secure independence. While the French financial assistance to the American war was already critically important, would not French military aid to show positive results before an
On october 19, 1781 the British army surrendered at Yorktown, Virginia. Although the treaty had yet to be signed, American independence had been accomplished. The Patriots had pulled off the most improvable upset by defeating the most powerful military of the day. Although the British had more troops, were highly trained, had more supplies, and a strong navy, the Patriots prevailed. Under the leadership of George Washington along with technological advancements in weaponry, aid from foreign allies, new fighting techniques, coupled with medical innovations and an extensive spy ring, a new nation is born.
Introduction: Why did the Patriots win the revolutionary war? Afterall, they did not have an army half as big as the British did. It was through the support of the citizens, the supplies sent to them, the strength of the soldiers. In other words, the three main reasons for their victory were popular support, leadership, and group motivation. If the Patriots did not have these things factored in, they may not have won. Sebby
When the thirteen colonies were created, the colonies depended greatly on England in order to survive and make something out of this new land. England not only helped them economically but also in time of war against the French during The French and Indian War. It meant that England had to spend extra money helping out the colonies and also with any necessary equipment required to fight in the war. Back home, England had been fighting a war for around 100 years already, so helping out the colonies just added more to their expenses. England wanted to earn some of the money they had wasted, so England decided to raise and put new taxes on the colonies. The colonials thought some of these taxes were outrageous and began getting furious at England. This was one reason for the tension that grew between the colonies and England. Other reasons like the Boston Massacre, in which British soldiers shot and killed 5 colonials, and the Intolerable Acts, led to more anger and tension between these two. All this things eventually led to the colonies declaring war on England. I believe the most significant cause to why the colonies declared war on England was because of the
When war begin in 1775, it seemed clear that Britain would win. It had a large, well-organized land army, and the Royal Navy had no chance on the sea. Many of the British troops in the Revolutionary War were veterans who had fought in the French and Indian War. On the other hand, the Americans had only a collection of undisciplined militiamen who had never fought before. The American navy was small and no match for the thousand ships in the royal fleet. When George Washington stepped into the people who were fighting against British became a actual army which succeed with George Washington help but it wasn't looking so good so it favored Britain. Nonetheless, the Americans believed that they did have a strong chance of success. They had a lot at stake: unlike the British, they were fighting on their home ground protect their own homes and families. though most Americans had no previous military experience, their militia units were usually close bands of men, often neighbors, who served together in defense of their own homes. They elected their own officers, usually men who did have some military training but who also knew the place well. This native officer division was a great source of strength, and as a result, American confidence was generally higher than enthusiasm
France was happy to help America defeat Great Britain mostly because they were still upset about losing their North American territories to the British in the French and Indian War. There was an estimated 12,000 soldiers and 32,000 sailors sent to America by the French. In the wake of the British surrender at Yorktown, the colonists compromised with Great Britain which eventually led to the Treaty of Paris in 1783; the war was officially over and America was fully
The American Revolution was a great mark in history because the colonist were striving to get their independence from Great Britain. From seeing many films the revolution was a harsh and emotional time. Many families suffered from the deaths of their husbands and fathers. Soldiers dealt with hunger and bad conditions, but the end it was worth the suffering because America got its independence. The Patriot helped developed the appreciation and understanding of the American Revolution. The scenes from the Patriot that increased the understanding of the American Revolution was the Strategy behind the Battle of Cowpens, Siege of Yorktown, and The Revolutions Divides Families, Friends, and Villages.
France wanted to get revenge at Britain so they helped America during the Seven Years’ War.
The American Revolution was the war between the county of Great Britain and its 13 colonial colonies. The war was not easy for the Americans, for the British had more money, soldiers, and firepower. However, the American army realized that the war couldn’t be won with by fighting the British head on. Rather, the American army strategically planned to lengthen the war, which would cost Great Britain thousands of dollars, and would force them to abandon their cause and except the colonists’ demands for independence. It worked. Great Britain realized that it would cost them more than it’s worth to keep fighting the colonist and decided to grant the colonies their independence. However, the revolution

The French and the English were bitter adversaries for many years. Throughout much of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Britain and France were engaged in many vicious power fights that repeatedly flared up into worldwide wars. Nevertheless the ultimate victory over the French came at an extraordinary price for Britain. Britain spent a fortune on the French and Indian War and couldn’t raise enough money to pull together a more intimidating fighting force; which forced Britain to extract funds from its colonies. However, the colonies felt that Britain was not effective in protecting them. This along with the advancement of distinct political entities among the colonies led to a feeling that the English were no longer necessary in these areas. Likewise after winning the war Britain no longer had to govern its land, but also their new land and the
