Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt is an autobiography of McCourt’s life from when he was born to the age of 19, at this time they were in great deprivation. McCourt’s depiction of Limerick and it’s locals are shown as a squalid town with wrongly accusing one local of watching over him. McCourts memory would also not be able to remember many delicate details such as conversations and exact memories as the year difference was to significant.

Prior to this, one time Nick was trying to remember what happened at a golf tournament while Jordan was playing, and realized that she was accused of changing the position of the ball, so it would be easier for her to hit it. We can assume she was trying to cheat so she would be able to keep up with other male competitors to emphasise the fact that women are just as capable as men. The quote is expressing the fact that women during the early 19th century were expected to lie in order to be accepted into a society dictated by men, which at the time women were labelled as inferior in regards to social class. Women during the 1910s were expected to stay at home with the family, while men were at work providing for them. Judging by her actions, she was doing this to keep her image as ‘the women’ at the time.

The Shining takes place in the Colorado Rockies mainly in the Overlook Hotel.
