Wearable Tech and Injuries The sport that wearable technology has made a very significant impact on is American Football. Injuries, especially blows to the head are being tended to and recognized earlier with the use of the devices. For example Reebok’s CheckLight, is a skull cap that works with sensors to capture head impact during play, by lighting up a certain color; green indicates low impact, yellow indicates a moderate hit, and red denotes a very hard hit, meaning that athlete needs to seek medical attention before returning to play (Wareable Pro, 2016).
This is extremely groundbreaking, because it is contributing the safety of the athletes. While the CheckLight evaluates the severity of the blow, the highest concern for concussion severity is the rate at which the head accelerates. Playing through concussions can put the athlete at a dangerously increased threat of suffering long time effects, such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy. CTE has been linked to depression, memory loss, dementia, and suicide, and makes the brains of 45-year-old athletes look like those of 90-year-old Alzheimer’s patients (Katwala, 2017). This is why it is extremely important for athletes to be removed from play immediately. In addition to head injury prevention, the wearable devices also aid in
