Many frustrations within our world can be summed up by answering some core questions: What is ultimate reality? What is humanity? How can I fix myself? Where does evil come from? The answers to these big questions are what make people different and what cause us to be individuals. There is no right or wrong answer. There is just differing opinions and how your own beliefs shape your world view. Ultimate reality, or what is behind this universe causes a lot of debate. The question of whether there is or there is not a God is a loaded question, especially in the western world. In the western world, we seem to constantly wage a war against science and religion. However, it is time to stop with the feud against science and religion and start to …show more content…
Between mental health and societal pressure every human has a troubled conscience. Many religions and beliefs systems have ways of trying to combat this, but ultimately the only way to “fix yourself” is to try and understand your place in the universe. In Buddhism, Atman is Brahman is a way of keeping perspective. Remembering that your soul is part of a larger whole connects you to other people. Fixing yourself is not about believing in yourself or having a positive attitude, even though those may help. It is about remembering you have a purpose and allowing yourself to go and find it. One of the main reasons why people choose materialism over theism is the existence of evil in the world. I believe we have all heard the reasoning "if there is a God why would He allow this to happen." That is a question nobody knows the answer to. So maybe there is not a God but that is personal conclusion to come to. There are two theories about evil. Evil is either learned or absorbed from an environment. John Locke wrote about this idea and called it Tabula Rasa (not in lecture, but a connection.) Both concepts explain that we are born good, but our environment shapes us and the decisions we will
“The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinion.” We all have opinions on things that are not an actual reflection of the reality. We have opinions that are different than what is real. Miss Adela Strangeworth is a 71-year old woman with blue eyes and pretty little dimples. She lives in an ancestral house where her parents and grandparents lived. She often thought that the town belonged to her since her grandfather built the first house on the Pleasant Street. She knew everyone in the town and was highly respected. Also, she was very famous for her roses that were planted around her house, but she never gave any of her roses away. Through her personal and
The problem of evil is the notion that, how can an all-good, all-powerful, all-loving God exists when evil seems to exist also. The problem of evil also gives way to the notion that if hell exists then God must be evil for sending anyone there. I believe both of these ideas that God can exist while there is evil and God is not evil for sending anyone to hell. I believe hell exists in light of the idea that God is holy and just. The larger is how anyone can go to heaven. I will try to answer the problem of evil with regards to the problem of heaven and hell.

I find the ending totally satisficing. Ms. Strangeworth gets what she deserves because of the letters she sends. If
What could possibly be regarded the most controversial and most debated topic ever - Religion[1]. For a long time, it's been debated - mostly by theists and atheists, if it is truly beneficial to our society or if is mostly detrimental[2]. How could just looking up to a god be so detrimental for the welfare our world? While the existence of religion itself isn't controversial, when you start digging into the fundamentals of it things start to become more contentious[3]. In our world, we have an abundance of religions - ranging from Christianity, Catholicism, Mormonism, and the Islamic religion[4]. While they all vary in detail, they all share the same fundamental idea of the existence of a deity[4].
In today’s world, most people have had at least one encounter with religion throughout their lives. For some people, religion is a belief that they must live by and follow the rules that it imposes. Some just view it as a practice that is optional. However, some just view it as an illogical myth. One of the bases of its belief is the believe of an all might perfect spirit that created the world called god. Many people around the world believe this belief, however there is still a great rising number of people who are bothered by it. Many scientist and even philosophers would argue that it is an idea that has just grown over the years yet has no evidence to be proven. Although there are many scientific theories that propose the creation of the earth, majority of Americans still believe in god. The numbers are declining but there is still a very high amount of the population that believes in god. There are arguments that say god exists, others say that he does not exists, but I believe in the existence of god.
A whole nation of people were dropping like flies in 1933 during an underrated, trivialized, silenced mass murder. Our concept of evil is shaped from our moral sphere. But how does one define as evil? In one way, it can be seen as an atrocious act in which the inflictor has no moral integrity and commits crimes that are unimaginable. In history, there have been many cases of evil but one case that is lesser known to the world is the “Holodomor” genocide in Ukraine. Up until the 2006, the genocide was masked as a “famine” and that too, a controlled famine. With recent insights into the matter, researchers speculate that about 2.7 to 7.1 million people were killed during this time. The number is unclear because “the Soviet Ukrainian
An important topic is being discussed and it concerns the reality of God indeed the same old question have been asked and researched for generations. However, the age old question still remains unanswered to this day. The question is there a God, and if there is how can we as mere human get closer and understand this higher being ? “Philosophers have offered three answers to the “is there anyone in charge? question (1) is there a god, (2) there is no God, and (3) we can’t know whether there is or is not a God” (Roots of Wisdom Pg.167).
One of the most argued world view issues is the one concerning the question is there a god? Many would say that we are our own God. And we are here to do as we please.
Evil is in everything. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, he demonstrates how a somber lifestyle can change how they act in a matter of days. He shows this to us when the proper, English, boys end up on an isolated island and need to learn how to do everything on their own. Golding’s purpose is to bring value to rules in society shown through the differences in leadership styles represented by two main characters, Jack, and Ralph. While it may seem as if this is only a book about boys who go through an unfortunate event, they are learning about how the world works. They are experiencing different leadership characteristics.
“The Problem of Evil”, evil is defined as something that is able to be known, can’t be defined but you know it when you see it. Determining what evil is, a person would need a sense of what “good” is to compare between the two to have an objective. Everyone has free will and God could have not given us free will but He has and could have easily decided for us what he allows us to decide for ourselves. Plantinga gives an example of the condition transworld depravity in which creatures choose freely to do evil in the world,” the free will defense” (Evans &Manis p. 166). If we are always choosing right then we really aren’t choosing at all and there is no free will in that concept. If we are made to choose God then what would be the point in
In a study done by the Worldhunger.com, it was found that there between the years 2014 and 2016 there were 7.3 million individuals out of 7.3 billion that were suffering from chronic under nourishment worldwide. This is roughly 1/9 people however this number does not account for the individuals that are undergoing impoverished lifestyles and are able to provide only minimal food for themselves (Worldhunger). Aside from hunger, countless problems exist in the world. For example, there are wars occurring that area killing innocent civilians and leaving families separated and young children orphaned. Disease plaques the world killing many people and cutting their lives short, there is murder and there is rape. Countless acts such as these occur
If I told you that a flower bloomed in a dark room, would you trust it? This line, from the seductive slow jam “Poetic Justice” on his previous critically-acclaimed LP, encapsulates the common theme found throughout all of Kendrick’s discography, and it delves into one of the most moral questions in human existence: can good come from evil? In his third studio album, hip-hop artist and songwriter Kendrick Lamar, in his distinguishable style of storytelling—jazzy, meditative beats underpinning confessional, dexterous rhymes—ventures into his dark past with financial and psychological struggles and describes his tumultuous journey from being just a troubled kid in the hood to a major voice in the hip-hop industry. To Pimp a Butterfly paints
Evil is the privation of goodness; in other words, evil is goodness spoiled. You can have good without evil, but you cannot have evil without good. There are forces of good and evil constantly working against each other in this world. Although it may seem as if evil has won sometimes, good will always prevail in the end. In Genesis 1-2, we can read that God created all things and called them “good.” Evil, or sin, is inescapable for humanity. We were born with a sin nature, and God loves us and has given everyone a chance for redemption anyways. God has and always will conquer sin in the end, but for now, it is our choice to side with either evil or good. God created us in his image, but he does not want to hold absolute control over us. Part of his promise to us is our power of free will. Of course, God only wants what is best for his children, but he cannot live our lives for us. Just like an earthly mother or father loves their child with all their heart and only wants the best for them all their lives. But, there always comes a day when they must let their child go and experience life on their own and make their own decisions. And that is exactly what God has done for us; he has let us go, only in hopes that we will make the right decisions and return to him. God’s love for us is unconditional and unwavering, no matter what we may do to disappoint and betray him.
Since the beginning of the intellectual development of mankind, the question of whether there is god or not has been a question that still remains. However, its effects on our way of thinking has been shaped by a number of people, thinkers, priests, scientists so on and so forth. If we were to divide that continuum into two parts, they would be before the enlightenment and after the enlightenment. Namely the times of natural philosophy and times of science since the term produced after the mid eighteenths. Before the enlightenment religion was the core, center pillar of natural philosophy when the medieval Europe was thought. Nevertheless, after that era the
