I again talked with my mom for this week’s Sharing the Journey. We were able to be outside and in the garden which was a great place to see God in action. I had read Hailey’s post about God being the Gardner and this was a great launching place for our discussion. Sharing parts of the lectures from Mr. Timms and the information from the text provided guidelines for our discussion as well (Boa, 2001). I changed the order of the questions because I felt the chat was better led from the starting point of establishing a base thought for the Holy Spirit.
Asking mom about the Holy Spirit, and how central to life it should be started us with a discussion of the Trinity. God provided different aspects of himself to reach humankind and be

The human mind deals with fixed ideas and cannot fathom the entirety of God. By providing three forms, God has allowed the mind of the human to interact intimately with God. Parents provide physical care, emotional support, and a safety net through the growing up process. God has provided an intimate form of himself to provide instruction and support. An example that is not Biblical, but makes sense is the character Jiminy Cricket within the story of Pinocchio. Jiminy provides ideas, guidance, warnings, and support but Pinocchio has to make his own decisions for his own actions. A Christian should welcome the Holy Spirit and strive to understand and act upon the “advice” of the Holy Spirit.
Walking by the Spirit is the decision of the Christian to accept the internal inclinations provided by the Holy Spirit. When deciding to accept Christ died for our sins, we also choose to live in the power of God. We have free will. We are not perfect. The Holy Spirit keeps our sinful nature in check and provides new wisdom when one is willing to step back from own ego and ideology. My mom likes analogies and, of course, came up with another one for this too. Teenagers look to each other for affirmation and acceptance. As Christians, we should look to God – via church participation and becoming aware of how the Holy Spirit guides you personally. A teenager decides how involved in a group to become, just as a Christian decides how much to be involved with the Holy
In this paper, I will review Robert Gromacki’s book The Holy Spirit: Who He is, What He Does I will detail what I feel the book is about. I will emphasize various points given by the author that stood out to me. Finally, I will give my personal evaluation of the book.
The parent or mature Christian is fully engaged in the mission of Jesus Christ. People who are in this stage are those who are witnessing and discipling others, in the same manner that he or she was discipled. They are looking out for the immature Christians, and taking them “under their wing” to encourage, listen to, and strengthen them to maturity in Christ.
The word “trinity” is used to describe the relationship of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Though all three are used in scripture there is no description of the “trinity.” Throughout this paper the concept of the “trinity” will be examined. First, the paper will have a summary of relevant sections from three sources: the New Catholic Encyclopedia, the older Catholic Encyclopedia, and a peer-reviewed theological article from a contemporary journal. Two concise analyses will follow the summary. In the first analysis there will be a comparison between the older and newer Catholic encyclopedias to see how over time theological reflection has changed. In the second analysis there will be a comparison between the New Catholic Encyclopedia and a contemporary theological article to show the differences between the two theological perspectives.
When an individual comes to faith in Christ he or she is not left alone to battle the struggles of sin, lead people to Jesus, experience heartache and sorrow, find God’s will, or live a life that is pleasing and honoring to the Lord. No, Christians are given an awesome gift that cannot be purchased or earned. Believers are blessed with the gift of a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 14:16, “ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”(ESV) Sadly, many believers do not have a correct understanding of who the Holy Spirit is, or what He does. The purpose of this paper is define the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit of God is the active force or power in one’s life, which most certainly includes spiritual formation (Pettit, 2008, p. 46). When Jesus was speaking with his disciples he made it clear – by using the analogy of a vine and branches – that apart from him they could do nothing (John 15:5). Only if one is connected to Christ will they have the ability to bear fruit and the way Jesus empowers those connected to him is through the Holy Spirt that that father will send in his name (John 14:26). The fact is that the triune God dwells in the Christian in and through the Holy Spirit. One sees this when they place multiple passages together to gain a full understanding of this concept. For example, Jesus made it clear that he and the father would come and make their home with the disciple (John 14:23). In 1 Corinthians 6:19 Paul reminds the Corinthians that their bodies are the very temple of God because the Holy Spirit dwells in them which is similar to what Jesus said would happen when he sent the Holy Spirit after his resurrection and ascension (John 14:17, 16:7).
According to the Christian worldview, God exists in a unique form known as the Trinity. This defines God as a singular being with three distinct persons: the Father, Son, and Spirit. Each person has a unique role: the Father is the Sovereign Creator (Psalm 103:19, New American Standard Bible); the Son is the Messiah and the firstborn over all creation (Colossians 1:15, NASB); and the Spirit is an Intercessor and Helper (John 14:26, NASB). All three persons comprise the single figure of God. This concept, while complex, is pivotal to the Christian worldview as one begins to analyze the overarching message of the Gospel.
It is only through HIM that we all have access to the Father by the Holy Spirit.
Engaging in spiritual practices is part of our Christian story, practices are “those cooperative human activities through which we, as individuals and as communities, grow and develop in moral character and substance.”[footnoteRef:1] Through these various practices, we grow in our faith and understanding of God in the world, in community and our lives. At the crossroads of our Christian practices, we see that "God is the agency who makes the story and who is revealed through the story…God is revealed to its hearers as a present reality in the contemporary telling and hearing.”[footnoteRef:2] Over the course of several weeks, a group of three met on a weekly basis to discern how God was speaking into our lives through
The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father, and is equal in essence and in power in the Trinity to the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit was originally sent by Jesus after his ascension into heaven, Jesus himself saying that he would send a “helper” after he departed from the earth. This spirit is worshipped just as the Father and the Son are, and also participated in the creation of the world, sustaining and giving life continually to all things, and exhibits the uniqueness and characteristics of the third person in the Trinity. This is the same Holy Spirit that divinely inspired the infallible word of God, and although the canon is now closed, the Holy Spirit still works powerfully and constantly in the life of the church and in believers. The Holy Spirit is the giver of spiritual gifts, which are given at conversion and help the believer become more like their creator. The presence of the Holy Spirit is evident in the life of all true believers, and this Spirit turns cowardly men into mighty warriors for Christ who accomplish actions way beyond their natural ability.
The Holy Spirit is God Himself. He is a person that we can have a personal relationship with. Also, the Holy Spirit is the one that God gave to us as a guide, to direct and teach us in living a Holy life (King James Version, John 14:16). The Holy Spirit is the voice inside of us that tells us when something is not right with the choices that we have made. The voice inside of us comes from God, who loves and cares enough to show us our error that we have made. Also, the Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity; where God transformed into three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When a person is born again, they believe and receive Jesus Christ (John 1:12-13), God comes through people’s life through the Holy Spirit (1Cor.3:16). The
Leslie thank you; this is a great tool. SPIRIT is an in-depth tool it can reveal a wealth of information just by completing the form. Spirituality can be a source of comfort for many people. This tool can help prevent spiritual distress which could hinder a patient's progress (Black, 2014). Spiritual practices encourage greater mental and physical health; therefore, physical activities should be promoted if it is beneficial to the patient's health (Weber & Kelly, 2014). For instance, if a Muslim patient is admitted there are religious and spiritual needs that the patient would like the nurse caring for them to know. Such as no meal that contains pork or alcohol, to make time in between care for prayers, if terminal religious practices that
To start our research, we need to ask a critical question at the very beginning : Who is the Holy Spirit? The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is a person. Jesus never referred to “it” when He was talking about the Holy Spirit. In John 14,15 and 16, for example, He spoke of the Holy Spirit as “He” because He is not a force or thing but a person. The point is especially important at a time when pantheistic tendencies are
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit is the source of life and creation. The Holy Spirit worked in the lives of men that God placed His Spirit upon such as prophets and kings to perform His service. Therefore, the Holy Spirit was not given universally in the Old Testament but selectively and temporarily for service. However, in the New Testament, the Spirit grants life to God’s people and believers are brought to faith, in Jesus, through the sovereign work of the Spirit.
The Trinity is a doctrine that has and will continue to bring much controversy to the Christian faith. Yet it is important to understand that a practical approach to this topic can be very important. Having a full understanding of the Trinity is vital to the life of a Christian. The distinct, yet interwoven aspects of God’s character will affect every aspect of a believer’s life.
The Holy Spirit plays a very vital role in the lives of each and every believer; He can strengthen us with a strength that we cannot even begin to muster up in ourselves. He can bring us joy that we cannot even begin to find in the things of this world. He can bring peace to our lives more than anything that we can ever find on this earth. “The Holy Spirit which is primarily an energizing process, is also a revealing, refining, consuming, illuminating process, and one by which we are made to glow with love to God, and love to man, and love to souls.”
