An addiction is defined as a strong, uncontrollable need to take drugs, drink alcohol or carry out a particular activity, such as gambling.
In dangerous cases, the addiction can become the most important thing in the addict’s life and can lead to problems in their personal lives as well as their work environment.
There is no single reason as to why addictions do develop.
