Why Athletes Should Be Paid

Do you think professional athletes are overpaid? You might think they earn more than what they are worth for playing half a year, but athletes have many things which contribute to their salary. Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. Although there are many factors that contribute to their salary, professional athletes may be overpaid because as a society, we contribute to their success. So, in the end, part of the athlete’s salary comes from the people who support the sports in the first place. These are just some of the reasons why athletes are paid so much money.

Sports are part of the everyday life of many people across the world, and in the United States sports are even more present in its society's life due to the fact that there are four major sports in the country. But should the professional athletes from these sports earn salaries as high as ten or twentieth times more than the national average wage? The answer should be NO. Professional athletes must be well remunerated but can not be overpaid when there are many issues around the world that can be solved with money. At this present age, professional athletes do not play for the love of the sport, and what they really care is what is going to be the amount of money in their contracts. The fans who support their teams have the majority of guilt in the high salaries of these athletes. Any team or franchise of any sport will not be able pay excessive salaries to their players if they do not sell jerseys, tickets, packages trip, accessories related to players, and games package on TV cables. The national government should intervene in the sports federation's policies and set a salary cap that do not diverges from its population reality.

How much harder would athletes work if they were paid for their performance on the field, track, or court? College athletes are put to the test each and everyday, they risk their health to entertain millions day in and day out. College athletes deserve part of the money due to the revenue they bring in for their schools and for the NCAA, they deserve the money because they do not have time to get a job because they are practicing and training at least 40 hours a week, they should also get paid because they are used as marketing models for the ncaa and for their universities. College athletes also should not get paid because they are already getting paid in scholarship money. College athletes deserve to get paid because they are putting their bodies on the line just so the NCAA and their sponsors can make money.

Did you know that 86% of college athletes come from families in poverty? Those families will stay in poverty until their college athlete makes it to the professional league. In all college sports, less than 2% of college athletes make it to the professional league (Hayes). This means that those poor families spent most of what little money they had left, to find out that they will never get their money back. However, if college athletes were paid, no family would have to lose their money to never acquire that money again. College athletes should be paid because the athletes will be able to provide for their families earlier in life, and athletes will stay to play at the college longer.

Wouldn't it be great to make $100 million a year simply to play a game? JJ Watt, along with other professional athletes think so. But do these athletes really deserve all that money? In my opinion I think there paychecks are a little too much .

My opinion on this on this problem is that athletes should be paid because they work just as hard as all pro athletes. They deserve recognition for what they're doing. With the motivation to make this money they'll play harder and harder to collect their pay. You can get the most out of people if money is involved. They say money is the root of all evil but this can make money be the root success. More money being paid to them the more success they can have in their seasons.

The third reason student athletes should get a salary is because it will make the game more competitive. Currently the average NFL superstar makes 23 million dollars a year. The NFL pays its players based on their worth and how they perform each and every game. These high payments only motivate them to work harder to maintain their highest level of performance. “If college athletes were paid they would not have to worry where they will get their money. This will help them focus more on their game rather than worrying about a part time job” (“Marc Edelman”). The payment of college athletes would definitely increase the energy and ambition of each game.

“It may seem unfair that athletes get paid to play a game, but remember who they are actually playing for: us.”Athletes get paid more money, but they do non-stop work/practice. Firefighters might go to a few training lessons in a lifetime. Athletes Constantly are improving.”We have to have the mentality that we have to work for everything we’re going to get.” -Stephen Curry. Many professional athletes get paid millions of dollars. Some people think that athletes shouldn’t get paid as much as they do. I honestly think they deserve to get paid like they do.

Athletes are paid huge sums of money to play sports. First, the average Cubs player earned over 6 million dollars in 2012. Next, some MLB players will earn more in one game than the average American household makes in 10 years. An NHL Blackhawks player earned over 124 million dollars in 13 years.Why should athletes get paid so much to play a game?

Let’s go over what we’ve gotten so far. So first, athletes deserve the money because they have earned it. Their talent is worth a lot money so that's how much they get paid. Next, athletes train and put a lot of their time into the sport that they play.

One reason that I believe that athletes are paid the perfect amount is because they make so many sacrifices in their childhood and adulthood that they deserve it. Most pro athletes have families and they are not able to spend enough time that a father should be spending with his kids and wife because they are constantly on the road for away games. The athlete also are putting their bodies at risk for injury every day that could end their career or possibly life when practicing and playing in games. These athletes also sacrificed many childhood memories because they were training to be the best and get where they are.

First and foremost, pro athletes should get paid less money than they already do. According to Bahgat, “In today’s society, one should be paid according to the jobs economic importance and their value to society” (Bahgat). Additionally, Firefighters and Police Officers get paid a fraction of sports athletes and they risk their lives everyday helping us. “Furthermore, police officers, firefighters, and doctors, save lives while risking their own for a fraction of what sports stars make” (Bahgat 1). In addition, there are people that can’t even afford food for their families and athletes are getting paid $100 million plus. In today’s society money could be spent in a better way than paying pro athletes

It is often said that professional athletes are paid too much money for what they do, but some of them live up to all of the fame and fortune that comes with it. Many professional athletes get paid on average about 5.15 million a year, and some even more than that. Depending on their performance and skill level determines how much they are paid. I think that it is great that they are putting on a good show for us and people all around the world, but they are earning an excessive amount of money. As I see it only a handful of athletes should actually earn what they do but the people who don’t even play should

Do athletes/performers get paid too much for what they do? In this situation, I am for the athletes side. Athletes/performers get paid based on how well they are doing in that certain activity, so I really don't think it's unfair or that they are getting paid too much money. Athletes/performers bring a lot of money in, so they should also get paid for everything they do. TIt's also their job they signed up for that specific occupation, and when they get a job they are supposed to get paid for what they do.

Sports player should earn money because they donate their money to charity. They spend so much money to those that are less fortunate. They spend money on charity like Cristiano Ronaldo gave approximately $83,000 to a 10-year-old fan in need of brain surgery. He also donated more than $165,00 to fund a cancer centre in Portugal that treated his mother.
