A first reason for a company such as McDonald is the increase in sales. For instance, if the company is performing very well in their native country, with the expansion in other international market will improve the revenue of the company. Furthermore, the fact that US does not cover the world population, thus influence McDonald to look beyond the domestic market since the uniqueness of the product might be an advantage in other countries. Consequently if the company is increasing sales and revenue, it will then reflect in the profit because company sales are important to measure the company profitability.
Spread risk is a second reason for the company to operate in the international markets. Due to the fact that selling a services in multiple countries means having various and much people that can purchase the service or the goods. This reduces the company threat of failure in case if the domestic market is facing an economic instability.
Another reason is to expand their growth with the new labour force in the market. For example, McDonald is the biggest recruiter in the UK and to sell the service to the people the company has been training the staff to be effective and offer a well-known customer service.
There are many businesses that have expanded their business internationally in order to benefit in some sort of way rather it revenue or a better market for their product. In this thesis, I will research a multination company and its international strategy over the last 10 years. Globalization refers to the “tendency of investment funds and businesses to move beyond domestic and national markets to other markets around the globe, thereby increasing the interconnectedness of different markets. Many companies today want to expand their business to the international business, which can bring cost down and profits up. Taking a business internationally means knowing the rules and regulations of the countries you are entering. There can be many issues with going global which include cultural barriers, diversity issues, multicultural issues, political issues, and economical issues. It is very important to know how important expansion is to the company and what implications will come from going global.
McDonalds obtained an additional customer base and this had a positive impact on sales. Also McDonalds have sponsored past Olympics and this increased the demand of a product especially the Big Mac, they also gained free publicity and this also increases the customer base. This avoids customers to switch to competitors and this means that they will obtain a healthy and stable profit for the future.
