Why Did World War 1 Began

World war 1 was a long four year war that began in 1914, all through 1918. The reason why World war 1 began is more complicated than a list of causes. It was mainly fought in Northeastern France and Europe. The prime causes of why World War 1 began was mutual defence alliances, imperialism, and militarism. Around 20 million people were killed including over 100,000 American troops.

Even today, the causes of World War one is still being debated and the great war started 96 years ago and ended 92 years ago. Yet today after so much time the main cause of the war still remains unexposed to this day. What triggered the whole war was the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie of Austria-Hungary on June 28th 1914 by The Black Hand. The assassination happened because of feelings toward the Serbians. The Archduke and his wife were on a parade route in their car during their visit to Sarajevo. Many assassins were lined up to take the kill of the Archduke but all failed, there was one young assassin named Gavrilo

World War one, also known as the “great war” was directly caused by the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. What you may not know is that the root causes to World War one were Nationalism, Militarism, and Alliances. Not only do they have a huge role in starting the war, but also making sure the war was finished.

WW1 actually began as a conflict within Europe, then it slowly progressed and became a world war. Tension began growing within the European countries caused by many different things. Such as, militarism, imperialism, alliances, and nationalism. Each one of these had an effect on reason why the war was started. Imperialism is viewed as one of the main reasons why the war starts. It started a competetions among the nations. The intense competetions grew so much that the nation’s seeked help by the strongest and best countries. Although some people will also say that nationalism was a main influence to cause the war. For the main reason that it had caused economic and territory issue through Europe, growing just as tension as imperialism. Militarism and alliances had put drastic effects on the war but not believe to start it. Militarism was a race to build up armies during nationalism. Each nation was terrified that another country would try to attack them, so built up their armies in defense.

There were many reasons as to why World War I began. According to Document 2 the event that started World War I was the death of the Archduke of Austria-Hungarian, Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Bashia. The other main causes of World War I was militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. Militarism was the policy of aggressive preparedness, european nations began arming to protect their assets. Alliances is when European nations formed alliances to create a balance of power throughout Europe. The Triple Alliance was a secret agreement

One of the main reasons that World War 1 was started was because of the alliances made. Such as the Triple Alliance made by Germany, Austria-Hungary, and, Italy. Germany and Austria-Hungary wanted Italy to side with them because they did not want Italy to help Russia. Twenty five years later, in 1907, the Triple Entente Alliance was created

World War I, also known as the first World War, or the Great War, was a global war originating in Europe the began on the 28th of July 1914 and lasted until the 11th of November 1918. World War I was a war that was fought between two sides with a few of the World’s greatest Nations of that time. The two sides were Triple Entente which included Britain, France, and Russia, and the Triple Alliance which was consisted of the countries Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. World War I left a mark on history as we know it, what could have possibly led to that war?, What were the underlying causes of World War I?. The major causes of “The Great War” or WWI consist of four long-term causes and one short-term cause. The common acronym that’s used for the four long-term causes to help students remember the causes of WWI is M.A.I.N; the acronym stands for Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism,and the short-term cause The Assassination of the ArchDuke Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo on the 28th of June 1914. To put all of this in a simpler way the five major causes of WWI was Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, Nationalism, and the assassination of the ArchDuke Franz Ferdinand. Each of topics played a significant role in the reasons why WWI would begin.

According to https://www.pbs.org/greatwar/resources/casdeath_pop.html, about 65,038,810 people where inlisted to fight in this war. Out of all the people who fought roughly 29,717,985 were either killed or wounded. The Great War, or more commonly know as World War One, was also sometimes referred to as the “European War” had many factors as to why this war had broken out. The reason why it had started had trickled into something much bigger than it should have been due to alliances.

World War 1 was partly caused by the two opposing alliances developed by Otto von Bismarck. Bismarck formed the Three Emperor’s League, an alliance between Germany, Russia, and Austria-Hungary. He also took advantage of the Italian dislike towards France and created the Triple Alliance between Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary. After Bismarck was fired, the dislike of Slavs prevented countries from allying themselves with Russia. France took advantage of this and became allies with Russia, forming the Franco-Russian Entente. Britain and France ignored all imperialistic conflicts between them and formed the Entente Cordiale. International tension rapidly increased and more countries became involved.

World War I started in The Balkans near the end of July 1914. ‘Why did World War I happen?’ you might ask. Well There are multiple reasons as to why it started. A couple  examples of the cause are: militarism, imperialism, and the growth of nationalism-which were all tied together by being mostly based off of disagreement. These three things are what I will be discussing in the next three paragraphs.

Before World War 1 began there were many conflicts between many countries, these conflicts are what eventually led to the war. Nationalism lead to World War 1 for reasons people believed they needed to fight for their country, many people who weren’t fighting wanted to support their soldiers, and many soldiers felt as if they couldn’t back out of the war. Militarism was a cause because each country was building up their weapons and ammunition, as well as building up their armies. Finally Kaiser Wilhelm II was a cause because he had a very strong hate towards Britain, he was a very aggressive leader and he wanted Germany to be the number one country. Nationalism, militarism and Kaiser Wilhelm II were the three main causes of World War 1.

There are lots of things that led up to World War One, some contributed more than others. Nationalism was not one of them, it probably only contributed one fifth. The cause of World War one was a mixture that lead to tensions between countries that gradually inclined with each event.

WW1 was named the Great War. For the first time in human history, a conflict took a global, worldwide dimension to become an unprecedented human tragedy that lasted from 1914 to 1918 and killed about 10 million young European men and many more civilians, destroying an entire generation of Europeans. There are 4 main causes of this war: Militarism, Alliance, Imperialism and Nationalism. Nationalism was what set off the bomb, which started the Great War, because of the murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne Militarism, a system that put great emphasis on military power, was a cause of WW1.

World War I was a long time coming dating back all the way to when George Washington gave his Farewell Address stating, we should be neutral and we should not get involved in conflicts. Jumping ahead in the 1890s the United States had a very small military consisting of only 30,000 soldiers and 10,000 sailors, the mean reason behind such a small military was because we did not have any major threats from foreign countries. Since the United States was not a super power yet we pretty much just stayed to ourselves, but in Europe in 1914 Alliances and rivalries were exploding. In Europe there was an ethnic conflict in Austria-Hungary the Slavs were angry because they did not get equal rights and did not feel like they were being treated fairly, and when individuals do not feel the same way they start going at each other to achieve equality. Another conflict in the making was when the nationalistic movement wanted to unite the Slavs and separate from Austria and join Russia because most Slavs came from Russia and Russia could offer the Slavs protection. In order to make their movement know the Slavs formed a terrorist group based in Serbia called the Black Hand and used terrorist tactics in an attempt to further the goals of the Pan-Slavs movement. But when you use terrorist tactics to promote a movement it makes the group look barbaric and hustle so why should I support a movement that kills people? Moving into terrorism the Black

Nationalism is pride for ones country. The tensions in the Balkans played a large role in the tensions that lead to world war 1. The tensions started when Serbia had a rise in nationalism and wanted to break free politically and economically from the Austro-Hungarian empire. From this point Serbia had Russia as an allie.
